Feng Guang asked, “So we’re staying here?”

“Yes. We’ll rest at this inn for a few days,” Su Fa replied.

Holding her hand, he led her inside. Before long, a server came up to greet them. “Good evening, honored guests. Are you here for a meal or a room?”

“A superior room,” Su Fa said.

“Right away, one superior room!” The sharp-eyed server quickly guessed they were a married couple. Plenty of couples stayed at the inn, but it was rare to see a pair this strikingly attractive.

The server brought them over to the innkeeper to pay the deposit. But as soon as the innkeeper, who had been looking down at his ledger, raised his head and saw Feng Guang, he froze for quite a while, staring at her in such a strange way that he finally blurted out, “Young lady, you are…?”

The server looked puzzled. “Boss, what’s wrong? These two are just guests here to rent a room.”

With a smile, Su Fa handed him a silver ingot. “Here’s the payment for the room.”

“Very good.” The innkeeper accepted it and barked at the server, “What are you standing around for? Hurry and take our guests to their room!”

“Yes, yes! This way, please,” the server said quickly.

Once inside the room, Feng Guang turned to Su Fa. “So we’re staying here. And then? What’s next?”

He hadn’t told her anything about their plans since arriving in the mortal world.

“Tomorrow is the Qiqiao Festival,” Su Fa explained. “I’ll take you to release river lanterns.”

“River lanterns… to pray for love?”

“Isn’t your fated love me?”

“Then why would I need to release a lantern?”

His lips curved faintly, his tone gentle. “Not to ask for love, but to wish that we’ll stay together forever, safe and sound. Isn’t that just as meaningful?”

Who in their right mind would want to stay with you forever?!

Feng Guang blinked. “But… we’re immortals. Mortals light river lanterns to pray to the gods. Who would we be praying to?”

“Feng Guang…” He sighed. “The lanterns are just a symbol of hope. It’s not about actually asking anyone for anything.”

She pursed her lips in a smile. “That does kind of make sense…”

“So, tomorrow—will you come with me to release lanterns?”

“Sure. Since we’re already in the mortal world, we might as well join the fun.”

“Tonight I’ll go to the market to pick out the best lantern for you. Would you like to come with me?”

She shook her head. “Forget it. Maybe it’s because time flows differently here than in the heavenly realm, but I’m so sleepy right now. I don’t want to go out. Su Fa, you can choose the prettiest lantern for me, and tomorrow we’ll go release it together.”

“Alright.” Su Fa held her hand, pressing a kiss onto the back of it. “Rest well here at the inn. I’ll set a barrier around the room so no one can harm you. You can sleep soundly.”

“Mhm.” She nodded, yawning again. It made sense—this hour in the heavens would have been the middle of the night.

Su Fa tucked her in after she drifted into sleep, smoothing the blanket over her. Only then did he leave the room.

But a few minutes after the door clicked shut, Feng Guang sat up, slipped out of bed, and dressed herself. She quietly opened the door and headed downstairs.

At the stairway, she unexpectedly ran into the innkeeper.

“Young lady,” the innkeeper asked, “where are you off to?”

“I came to see you.”
