“Captain, you mean…” Lu Yunfei’s eyes widened as realization dawned.
“Yeah.” Gu Chi’s lips curved slightly in a faint smile, but the chill in his dark eyes was unmistakable. “This time, the enemy’s smarter than Zhang Bin. Knows how to use tricks.”
Lu Yunfei shivered instinctively.
“What do you mean?” Lin Xun frowned.
The rest of the team looked equally confused.
Lu Yunfei’s voice turned grim. “All alliance teams are strictly trained. There’s no way they’d pass through such a densely populated urban area. The risk is too high.”
“In other words…” He took a deep breath, stepped aside with the communicator in hand, and lowered his voice. “The supply team that reported this might’ve been dead for a while already.”
A chilling silence fell over the group.
“I’ll contact HQ first.”
Lin Xun stood frozen for a moment, still trying to process. “But… if they’re dead, then who sent the message?”
Gu Chi’s voice dropped, heavy and cold. “Someone who wanted the alliance’s attention. Someone who wanted to lure out core members… Who else could it be?”
Lin Xun’s expression changed. “The zombie leader?”
The moment he said it, everyone felt a chill in their hearts.
Lu Yunfei returned, his face serious. “Captain. HQ confirmed the supply team’s gone dark. No signal. Their locator’s also damaged. We can’t even track the vehicle.”
“Then it really was…” Mu Yu clenched her jaw.
Lu Yunfei looked up. “Captain, should we request reinforcements?”
Gu Chi fell silent for a moment. “The alliance has few high-level ability users. Most are already tied up with missions. Pulling everyone out now would leave headquarters exposed.”
“Then what should we do?”
Gu Chi didn’t answer immediately. Instead, his gaze shifted toward Chi Ying.
Maybe they didn’t need reinforcements after all.
Her powers… were more than enough to rival the entire alliance.
“Captain?” Lu Yunfei followed his gaze, puzzled.
“…No need for reinforcements,” Gu Chi said finally. “You all guard the perimeter. Don’t go too deep. Observe and report anything suspicious.”
Song Shi blinked. “Brother Gu, what about you?”
“I’ll go in with Chi Ying. The rest of you stay with the plan. Don’t worry. I won’t take unnecessary risks.”
That seemed to settle it. Song Shi nodded.
“Let’s move.”
The team split up.
Gu Chi led Chi Ying straight toward the city’s heart.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“City center.”
“But I thought we were staying on the edge?”
“I lied.”
Chi Ying blinked. “Do you lie often?”
Gu Chi: “…”
She smirked knowingly.
Avoiding the topic, Gu Chi ducked into a nearby electric vehicle shop and rolled out a small electric donkey.
“Can you ride this?”
Chi Ying shook her head.
“Then I’ll drive.”
“Does it still work?”
He flipped on the headlight. “Still got power. Hop on.”
He climbed on first. Chi Ying sat behind him, holding the back of the seat to steady herself.
“There are tens of thousands of zombies ahead,” Gu Chi said. “Think we can handle it?”
Chi Ying smiled. “Even millions won’t be a problem.”
Gu Chi’s lips twitched upward.
As they set off, Chi Ying lounged behind him, casually throwing wind blades to clear the occasional zombie, her mood oddly relaxed. The streets were nearly empty.
But as they pushed deeper into the city, the atmosphere shifted.
The number of zombies doubled—then tripled. They started charging at them from every corner.
Gu Chi’s tall frame blocked her view. Chi Ying repositioned—placing her hands on his shoulders, squatting slightly to raise her line of sight. Her feet shifted from the footrests to the back seat, balancing effortlessly.
Now she could see clearly above his head.
The car remained steady, even with her movements.
She inhaled.
Suddenly, twin earth walls erupted from the ground, towering on either side of the road. Only a narrow two-meter path remained. The rest of the zombies were cut off.
The little electric donkey jolted.
Gu Chi’s heart skipped a beat.
He preferred saving energy, using his ice ability sparingly. Not that it was much help—it melted too fast in summer heat, and his control wasn’t great anyway.
Meanwhile, Chi Ying’s eyes glowed turquoise.
She summoned the wind.
It roared down the city streets, slicing through zombie throats with invisible force, leaving black trails across their necks.
Within seconds, the massive swarm of zombies had been dismembered.
The same thing was happening in other parts of the city.
Gu Chi hadn’t lifted a finger. He was just…driving.
Yet, instead of feeling useless, his hands trembled from awe.
Holy shit.
That was cool.

“Almost there?” Chi Ying asked, stretching with a yawn.
Gu Chi nodded. “The signal’s coming from just ahead. The zombie leader must be waiting.”
“Alrighty~”
Before they even arrived, the roar of zombies echoed through the air.
Gu Chi slowed. “Be careful. The leader’s probably in the middle. These won’t fight like normal zombies.”
“Got it.” Chi Ying gave his shoulder a pat. “Stay here.”
“I’ll handle it. Don’t move unless I say.”
Gu Chi: “…”
Why did he feel like the useless one here?
He stopped the vehicle.
Chi Ying jumped down, the wind lifting her lightly as she landed on the roof of a scrapped car.
The streets were cluttered with wrecks, a chaotic scene left by the outbreak.
But Chi Ying moved like a cat—agile, smooth, her body light and confident.
Soon, she spotted a massive horde in the distance.
Found it.

In a high-rise nearby, a pale, handsome young man swirled a wine glass lazily. Bai Qing stared out the floor-to-ceiling window, watching his army of zombies shuffle restlessly.
He hadn’t taken a sip. The drink wasn’t to his taste.
He leaned back in his chair, bored, letting it spin as he glanced down at the zombies kneeling before him.
Ho …. ho! Ho ….. ho!
Suddenly, the horde stirred.
He straightened up, peering into the distance.
A girl was approaching.
Alone?
His brow furrowed—then relaxed.
A cruel smile spread across his face. “So our guest has arrived.”
“She may be alone… but a welcome party is still in order.”
The zombies responded with excited growls.
He raised his hand.
At once, the undead below turned in Chi Ying’s direction, shambling forward like an unstoppable wave.
“Tsk. Let’s hope her death isn’t too ugly.”
The distance was too great for him to see her face. He clicked his tongue, disappointed.
Such a waste. He wanted to see her fear.
But Chi Ying wasn’t scared.
She was calculating.
What’s the fastest way to wipe them out?
They were clumped together—terrible formation.
Perfect for wide-range attacks.
Fire would work, but… too slow.
She raised her hand.
Leaves and debris swirled around her, drawn by invisible force. The wind took shape—a massive blade, thousands of times bigger than the usual ones.
Her hair flew behind her, her shirt tugged by the growing storm.
Then—
She flicked her finger.
The blade shot forward.
A whistling wind followed.
Then—silence.
The roar of “ho …..ho” vanished.
When the dust settled…
Every zombie was cleaved neatly in two.
The city fell into dead silence.
The system sighed with satisfaction.
[OCD attack successful.]
__
Bai Qing stared through the glass, frozen.
No…
No, no, no, no, no—
Panic rose as the zombies behind him erupted in chaos.
It was over.
His grip on the wine glass tightened.
There was only one thought left in his mind: Escape.
He spun around, mind racing with desperation.
But then he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror—his pale, humanlike face.
And paused.
“…Right. I’m not finished yet.”
A sly smile crept across his lips.
If brute force won’t work… then I’ll have to outsmart her.
Author’s Note:
Midnight update coming tomorrow~ Don’t miss it!
“OCD Attack”? Do you mean AOE attack? I’m not super familiar with gaming terms, but it felt like an error so I’m just pointing it out. Ignore me if I’m wrong.
Anyway, I started rereading this novel and saw there was a new translation. It’s good!
