At eight o’clock that evening, someone knocked on the door. Fengguang got up and opened it, finding Zheng Gao outside. His expression did not look good, but when he realized Qi Wei was nowhere to be seen, he said, “Miss Xia, you made the right choice.”
“Why are you alone?” Fengguang did not want to bring up that man, but since she did not see Zheng Fei, she found it strange.
Just as Liu Xun was always together with Yang Hui, the Zheng brothers were usually inseparable as well.
At the mention of this, Zheng Gao’s expression darkened even further. “We released the doctors from the hospital. They really did manage to control the patients quickly, but they were also afraid we’d expose what they’d done in the past, and now…”
“And now the doctors have decided to treat us the same way they treated the patients?” she finished.
“That’s right.” A trace of grief flashed through Zheng Gao’s eyes. “My brother stayed behind so I could get out, and they already… Miss Xia, Miss Yang and Mr. Liu are already waiting at the shore. I came to get you out of here immediately.”
“We don’t have a boat…”
“We do.” Zheng Gao quickly replied, “I contacted the Lu family, and they sent a ship to pick us up. We need to get to the coast before those doctors react.”
“I understand.” Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Fengguang followed Zheng Gao out of the dormitory building. As they passed through the woods, she could see the hospital in the distance, brightly lit and seemingly no different from before. Pulling her gaze away, she suddenly asked, “There’s no signal here. How did you contact anyone?”
“It’s not that there’s no signal. The hospital installed a signal jammer. I destroyed the jammer hidden inside the hospital, and only then could I contact some old friends.”
Before long, they arrived smoothly at the shore. There really was a ship docked there, and Liu Xun and Yang Hui were already standing aboard it. When Liu Xun saw Fengguang, he even waved enthusiastically at her.
“You must be Miss Xia.” A young woman stepped down from the ship. Tall and elegant, she wore a fitted black dress that made her look both graceful and refined. She extended her hand. “Hello, I’m Lu Heng.”
“Hello.” Fengguang shook her hand. “I’m Xia Fengguang.”
She knew of the Lu family — a family that never involved itself in business and operated solely within political circles. When it came to true aristocratic families, even the Xia family probably could not compare to the Lus. Still, the two families moved in completely different worlds, so there was no real basis for comparison.
Lu Heng smiled, dazzlingly charming as she withdrew her hand. “Miss Xia, I’ve heard so much about you.”
Those last four words carried an oddly mysterious tone, enough to make one linger over their meaning.
From aboard the ship, Yang Hui called out, “Alright, hurry up and get on already!”
Lu Heng said, “Let’s board.”
“Wait a little longer…” Fengguang said softly. “Just a little longer.”
Lu Heng smiled. “What are you waiting for?”
A voice suddenly called out, “Fengguang.”
Her body stiffened. She turned around almost instantly and saw Qi Wei walking out from the woods.
Zheng Gao immediately pulled out a gun and pointed it at Qi Wei. “Everyone’s looking for you. Since you’ve shown yourself—”
“Wait!” Fengguang grabbed Zheng Gao’s arm holding the gun. “Don’t shoot!”
Qi Wei’s face was pale, and when he smiled, there was a kind of bewitching beauty about him that had never appeared before. “Fengguang, you still can’t bear to let me go.”
Fengguang paused, but Zheng Gao shouted, “Miss Xia, why are you stopping me? Don’t you know what kind of person he is?”
