Ming’an’s dark eyes were full of amusement. He lifted Fengguang into his arms and carried her a few steps before they both fell onto the soft bed together.
Although he clearly cared for her deeply and enjoyed being close to her, there were still boundaries he refused to cross. Despite his complicated nature and long life, a sense of restraint remained ingrained in him. He reminded himself that Fengguang was still young, and there were lines he would not step over.
Instead, he chose to express his feelings in ways that belonged to the vampire world—through their bond and the exchange of strength that sustained her. Fengguang, half-dressed and flushed, held onto him tightly, her mind drifting as she stared up at the white ceiling. She felt overwhelmed by the strange, dizzying sensations that always came when he used his power to support her.
It was said that the purer a vampire’s bloodline, the more powerful the connection they could create. Ming’an was only a half-vampire who had once been human, yet Fengguang felt that what he gave her was stronger than anything she had ever imagined.
Meanwhile, outside the school gates, Xia Chao and Wang Ci had been waiting for half an hour, just as Ming’an had promised—without his permission, no one entered the campus.
Xia Chao’s face was as dark as a storm cloud, while Wang Ci stood beside him holding an umbrella and fanning herself gracefully, seemingly unconcerned about her husband’s discomfort in the sun.
The couple gave off an unusual contrast: he was stern and old-fashioned, while she was elegant and impeccably dressed. Rumor had long claimed their marriage would never last, yet they had remained together for more than two hundred years.
Finally, the school gates opened.
“Oh my, why have you been standing here so long instead of coming in?” Ming’an asked casually as he approached. He was dressed as usual in a shirt and a doctor’s coat, a gray scarf hanging loosely around his neck. His long black hair was unbound today, making him look even more disheveled and languid.
Xia Chao’s expression turned icy. “I remember calling you before we arrived.”
“Did you?” Ming’an scratched his head. “I’m getting old—must have slipped my mind.”
Wang Ci glanced at her husband, then smiled faintly at Ming’an. “Making a lady wait this long isn’t like you.”
Back at Osiris Academy, Xia Chao and Ming’an had been classmates, while Wang Ci was a year below them. Ming’an had been the student council president of Division B and a night patrol officer. Even back then, he had been a little unconventional—but whenever a girl wanted to confess her feelings to him, he was never late.
Wang Ci still remembered that, among the human students, the day a girl confessed to Ming’an was practically the same she got her heart broken. His replies were always the same:
“Sorry. I’ve never considered liking girls.”
