MDMP Chapter 2.2

Arrival (2)

Zhao Jingcheng pulled Zhao Suisui to the train window, pulled the window edge with both hands, and looked outside.

It dawned quite early in September, and the clouds in the distant sky were rimmed with a faint golden edge.

They saw a platform made of cement floor appear outside the car window in the early morning, and there were many passengers standing on it with luggage piled at their feet.

The train finally stopped.

Feng He was carrying a large cowhide suitcase in her hand. She called the two children over and said seriously: “Chengcheng, Suisui, we are getting out of the train. You have to follow Mom closely, you know?”

Thinking of the possible chaos when getting off the train, Feng He said to Zhao Jingcheng: “Chengcheng, please keep an eye on your sister, okay?”

Zhao Jingcheng pursed his lips, nodded seriously, and then held Zhao Suisui’s hand tightly.

Zhao Suisui was caught in the middle and felt full of security.

But, she was a little unhappy. She actually didn’t want to get out of the train at all. She wanted to go back to Beijing! But obviously, her mother would not listen to her at all!

The mother and two children arrived at the door. Fortunately, the sleeper train was not as crowded as the hard-seat train.

However, the train door is much higher than the platform, so you have to walk down the stairs.

Before Feng He could take down her luggage, she heard a man’s voice: “Ah He!”

Feng He looked over following the voice and saw a man in a green military uniform walking quickly toward her in the misty morning light.

The man is handsome, with broad shoulders and long legs. He walked up to her in a few steps and looked up at her with a smile on his cold brows.

Zhao Haoyang looked at his wife whom he had not seen for a long time and felt that his heart was full and swollen. He originally had many things to say to her, but now he could not say a word.

When Feng He saw Zhao Haoyang, the string that had been tense in her heart finally relaxed.

But when she saw him standing under the car door with a silly smile, she couldn’t help but glare at him: “What are you doing standing there stupidly? Why don’t you come over and get our luggage.”

Only then did Zhao Haoyang react, laugh again, and take the big bag from Feng He’s hand. After putting down the bag, he took the initiative to carry Zhao Jingcheng down, while Feng He walked down holding Zhao Suisui.

Zhao Jingcheng could remember things at the age of six. Although Zhao Haoyang didn’t go home often, he still remembered his appearance.

Now he saw his father again, so he couldn’t help shouting happily: “Dad!”

When Zhao Haoyang heard his son calling him, he reached out his hands, rubbed his little head, and responded with a smile.

Holding his son in one hand, Zhao Haoyang began to glance at his daughter on his wife’s side.

You know, Zhao Haoyang was really looking forward to seeing his lovely daughter!

Although Zhao Haoyang couldn’t go home to spend time with his family often, Zhao Suisui’s presence in Zhao Haoyang’s heart was not low at all.

Every letter sent home always ended with a greeting that Suisui asked Feng He to write.

Zhao Haoyang saw Suisui writing in the letter: Suisui misses Dad so much; Dad must take good care of himself and not get sick, otherwise, Suisui will be worried, and so on.

She was like a caring little cotton-padded jacket, holding the heart of her old father so tightly that he was willing to transform into his daughter’s slave.

After receiving the news that his wife was coming to join the army, Zhao Haoyang was in a daze during this period.

Last night, he couldn’t sleep all night. It was still dark, but he drove the army car over and stood here waiting for several hours.

When he thought of this, Zhao Haoyang was still extremely excited.

He put down Zhao Jingcheng in his arms, took a step forward, and looked at Zhao Suisui who was leaning against Feng He’s leg.

The four-and-a-half-year-old girl was cute, her little hands tightly grasping the corner of Feng He’s clothes, and when Zhao Haoyang looked over, she hid behind Feng He’s legs.

Zhao Haoyang looked at Zhao Suisui’s beautiful black grape-like eyes and couldn’t help but smile in his heart: My dear daughter is so shy!

Zhao Haoyang took half a step back with his right leg, squatted in front of Zhao Suisui, looked at her level, and was about to speak.

He saw his caring little cotton-padded jacket glare at him fiercely, then tilted her little head to the side, shrugged her shoulders, and let out a particularly angry ‘snort’.

Zhao Haoyang: “???”

It’s your Dad, don’t you remember?

Translator’s Little Encyclopedia:

The metaphor of “Mom and Dad’s little cotton-padded jacket” generally refers to daughters.

Daughters are regarded as the caring little cotton-padded jackets of their parents because they are usually delicate, emotional, gentle, and considerate. They care, understand, and help their parents more, and have more emotional integration.

In traditional Chinese thought, daughters are often more filial and considerate than sons, allowing parents to worry less. Although daughters may have received less attention in family education in the past, when they grew up, daughters are often more sensible and considerate of their parents than sons, and they are more caring toward their parents. Therefore, daughters are regarded as their parents’ little cotton-padded jackets.
