Xi Yue: “???”
His eyes widened in shock. “What do you mean? You used to always talk to me! You were practically begging for my attention!”
Qingli yawned lazily, “Well, now I don’t like you, and you’re nothing without that.”
Xi Yue gritted his teeth, glaring at her.
Qingli didn’t notice, still focused on her phone.
After a while, he leaned over to peek at her screen. Since she hadn’t put a privacy screen on her phone, he could easily see what she was doing. Her screen was filled with complicated numbers and symbols. Qingli was zooming in and out, writing and solving math problems.
Xi Yue didn’t fully understand what he was looking at, but as a high school student, he recognized they were advanced math problems.
Wait… she’s solving such difficult problems?
He remembered that her grades were terrible. Could it have been Wen Shi’s fault, causing her to fail? Holding back his curiosity, he finally couldn’t help but ask, “You can solve those?”
Qingli didn’t respond.
Xi Yue grew more frustrated, “I didn’t say you couldn’t talk, just answer me!”
Finally, Qingli replied, “If I couldn’t, do you think I’d be copying them?”
Xi Yue: “…”
He still couldn’t believe it. “So you failed because of Wen Shi?”
“Yes,” Qingli answered firmly.
Xi Yue shook his head, still skeptical. “Wen Shi’s just a kid. How could she have that kind of ability? If she could hypnotize people, why wouldn’t she do it to me? She’d get even more out of that.”
“If you don’t believe me, I can’t help you,” Qingli said, shrugging. Although it was hard to believe, it was the truth. The original Qingli probably hadn’t seen it coming either.
Pei Xiyue choked on his words and said, “Then explain this to me. If Shishi really could hypnotize you and make you slack off in school, shouldn’t you still be working on stuff from your first or second year of high school?”
Qing Li was getting irritated by the questioning and turned her head away, not wanting to deal with him anymore. In her past life, Pei Xiyue was pretty detestable. He didn’t show an ounce of sympathy for the original Qing Li, just stood by as she was bullied by everyone and even added his own insults.
But all of this stemmed from the original Qing Li’s misplaced affection for him, fueled by Pei Mingjiang’s manipulation, which led her to constantly try to get closer to him.
The original Qing Li harbored some resentment toward Pei Xiyue, but not deeply because she understood that no one in this world was obligated to help someone going through hardship. When she secretly killed Pei Xiyue in her previous life, she even felt guilt—he didn’t deserve to die.
Because of this, Qing Li didn’t want to deal with him the way she did with Wen Shi, who she would often hit. Plus, Qing Li knew she wasn’t strong enough to win in a real fight, so ignoring him was the best option for now. Once she had enough strength, if Pei Xiyue still behaved like this, then she’d handle him differently.
However, Qing Li’s silent refusal to respond looked like guilt to Pei Xiyue. His eyes lit up immediately, and he said, “I knew it! Either you’ve been faking it, or this whole thing about Wen Shi PUA-ing you was just a lie!”
Qing Li smiled slightly. “Yeah, it’s fake. So tell me, why would I intentionally fail exams when I could do well? Was I just afraid of wrinkling my test papers?”
Pei Xiyue crossed his legs lazily and said, “If it’s true, then you’re just trying to get my attention. I’m telling you now, it won’t work. Stop wasting your time.”
Qing Li responded coldly, “You can shut up now.”
Pei Xiyue acted surprised, “Seriously? Are you still keeping up the act? Aren’t you embarrassed?”
Qing Li, feeling a surge of irritation, casually grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. “So, what do I need to do for you to finally believe that I don’t plan on sticking to you anymore?”
Pei Xiyue laughed, “Alright, let’s make a deal. The midterms are coming up. If you make it into the top 100 in the grade, I’ll believe you.”
Qing Li raised an eyebrow, “And what’s the bet?”
Pei Xiyue replied, “If I win, you’ll go out of your way to avoid me from now on. Don’t show up in the same places as me. If you lose, tell me what you want, and I’ll see if I can agree.”
Qing Li thought for a moment and said, “Fine. If I win, you’ll stay as far away from me as possible. Even if there’s a special circumstance, don’t speak to me. Keep at least five meters away. The farther, the better. Ideally, we wouldn’t even be in the same room.”
Pei Xiyue was dumbfounded. “What???”
He stared at her in disbelief. Shouldn’t she be taking this opportunity to ask for something else? This bet didn’t make sense based on everything she had done up to now.
“You—” Pei Xiyue began to speak.
But Qing Li, clearly tired of the conversation, cut him off sharply, “Are you done or not? Just shut up already!”
Pei Xiyue reflexively fell silent, his usual cocky demeanor replaced by a flicker of frustration. For the first time, he felt a strange sense of grievance.
She yelled at him!
Fu Qing Li yelled at him?!
Pei Xiyue fumed silently. No matter how things turned out after the midterms if Qing Li didn’t honor their bet, he wouldn’t let it slide this time.
When the movie ended, just as expected, the theater doors opened.
Qing Li glanced at the time, satisfied, and stopped working on her problems. As soon as the doors were open, she walked out immediately, found Pei Mingjiang, and said, “Grandpa Pei, I’ve been locked up for two hours, and now I’m really angry!”
“You said to come talk to you if something was wrong. Well, can you help me vent now?”
For the first time, Pei Mingjiang, usually sharp as a tack, looked bewildered. He turned and glanced at the theater, where Pei Xiyue sauntered out leisurely, as handsome as ever in all black, tall and cool—the kind of guy most girls adored.
As a man in his sixties, Pei Mingjiang knew his grandson was popular with women. But to think that after spending time alone with him, Qing Li was still this upset?
Pei Mingjiang glared at his grandson. “Xiyue! Did you bully her again?”
Pei Xiyue spread his hands innocently. “Nope.”
Pei Mingjiang turned back to Qing Li.
Qing Li, still fuming, said sternly, “Grandpa Pei, don’t change the subject. He didn’t bully me, but I was locked in there for two hours! That’s violating my freedom, and that’s why I’m mad!”
Pei Mingjiang, amused by her stubbornness, shook his head with a smile. “Alright, alright, it was my fault. How do you want me to make it up to you?”
Qing Li thought seriously for a moment, then said, “If Wen Shi had done this, I’d probably beat her up. But since you’re over sixty, I can’t do that.”
Pei Mingjiang was startled, “What did you just say?”
Qing Li smiled sweetly, “I was thinking about how to vent my anger. In palace dramas, the concubines always smash things when they’re upset.”
Pei Xiyue, who was heading upstairs, paused curiously to watch what would happen next.
Pei Mingjiang narrowed his eyes, studying the girl in front of him. She looked sweet and innocent, but her words didn’t quite match. Could someone be advising her?
He wasn’t sure, but he wanted to test her, so he said, “Alright, go ahead and smash something.”
Qing Li asked cautiously, “You won’t make me pay for it, right?”
Pei Mingjiang chuckled, shaking his head, “No, you can break whatever you want.”
The moment she got the green light, Qing Li’s face lit up with a bright smile. She grabbed a cup from the coffee table and hurled it at the TV.
Crash—clatter!
A loud shattering sound echoed as the cup hit the screen, causing a series of gasps from the servants who were too scared to intervene.
Pei Xiyue inhaled deeply, feeling a sense of grudging admiration. Was she really this bold after snapping?
Even Pei Mingjiang, who had been watching amused, was taken aback by the sudden crash. His heart skipped a beat from the shock.
But Qing Li wasn’t done. She grabbed a vase and threw it next. This time, the sound was even sharper as it smashed against the TV, which cracked and went completely black.
The crash reverberated through the room, causing the whole living room to shake.
Pei Mingjiang gasped, clutching his chest as pain shot through him. His heart was pounding harder than ever.
Meanwhile, Qing Li admired the mess she had made and turned around with a sweet smile. “Grandpa Pei, smashing things does help release some anger. I’m feeling a little better now.”
With that, she picked up another vase and hurled it at the wall. This time, the vase shattered into flower-shaped fragments on impact.
Pei Mingjiang’s heart pounded again, his breath coming in short gasps. “You! That vase cost five million! You—!”
Even though his family was wealthy, this kind of destruction was unacceptable!
Qing Li blinked innocently, “No wonder it sounded so nice when it broke! Got any more?”
Seeing Pei Mingjiang’s eyes nearly bulging out of his head in rage, she realized maybe she’d gone a bit too far. She pouted, “But you said I could break things!”
Grabbing his chest, Pei Mingjiang struggled to breathe, his face turning pale. Desperately, he shouted, “Butler! Butler! Get my medicine!”
I love it 😂 I think there’s this place in my area where breaking things is the main theme. Though quite expensive but at least, you don’t need to clean up after ☺️
