WBSGVS Chapter 27 V3

It was said that the wife’s surname was Fu.

Unfortunately, all these years, that woman had never appeared or left any identifying records, leading the matter to fade away.

Upon reaching this point and recalling the words of the middle-aged man who had bailed her out, she realized she now understood everything.

If she weren’t the granddaughter of his mentor, why would he go through the trouble of bailing out a woman with such a tarnished reputation?

Thus, the Pei family’s treatment of her wasn’t a favor but a trade-off for their interests.

What the Pei family had given her and what she had offered them were vastly disproportionate!

The revelation of the truth didn’t bring joy to the original owner; instead, it fueled her resentment.

She hated that the Pei family benefited while treating her this way. She loathed herself for spending so many years trying to please a group of ungrateful wolves. She also resented this grandfather who would rather leave her to outsiders than see her himself.

As a result, she pretended to be pitiful to seek an audience with Grandpa Pei. After raising her for over a decade, even a dog would have some feelings, and Grandpa Pei softened, temporarily taking her in.

The original owner took advantage of Pei Xiyue’s presence to pull out a knife and attempt to kill him. After all, wasn’t Grandpa Pei most concerned about this grandson?

She wanted him to lose the person he cared about the most.

Unfortunately, she failed and was sent to prison by the furious Pei family. This time, bail was useless, and they went to great lengths to ensure she received a harsh sentence. On the day of the verdict, that middle-aged man appeared again, apologizing to her with remorse, saying he hadn’t uncovered the truth and hadn’t known the circumstances. He should have taken her away then.

It shouldn’t have come to this point, watching the last remaining bloodline of his mentor fall to such depths.

The original owner hadn’t cried when bullied by her classmates, nor when the Pei family scorned her. She hadn’t cried when the one she liked was with someone else, nor when she was sentenced to over a decade in prison.

But listening to the man’s words, she cried.

After that, she committed suicide.

It was her shame that had stained her grandfather’s reputation, yet her resentment remained. If she did nothing, she would never find peace in this life. Unfortunately, she felt powerless and couldn’t even seek revenge, so she chose to escape everything through death.

The story ends here. Qing Li could feel the resentment was the culmination of the original owner’s life experiences.

She was a pitiful little girl.

Even if she ended up at an orphanage, it might still be better than living in the Pei family. Before she turned nine, the original host was a lively and cheerful girl. But after a sudden change in circumstances, living under someone else’s roof, and being rejected by the family, she became sensitive and cautious, even afraid to eat too much during meals.

Years of repression became the source of her later darkness and misguided choices.

Qing Li arrived at an early point in time; the original host was seventeen and in her second year of high school, still three years away from her grandfather’s death.

The original host had decent grades in middle school, but after encountering bullying in high school, her grades plummeted. At this moment, she was being bullied by a few girls from her grade and locked in the bathroom.

This wasn’t the first time such an incident had occurred in the original host’s memory. There were several nights when she didn’t return home, and when she did, Pei’s mother would mock her, saying she was just a country girl with no upbringing for daring to stay out.

Pei’s grandfather would look at her with disappointment, saying nothing, but it made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

So this wasn’t anything special; she could act freely.

Qing Li moved her limbs. The girls who bullied the original host had thrown her phone into the water, rendering it useless. To get out, she either needed luck to find other students still around, or she had to force the door open herself.

But by the time the original host had been brought here, the school had already been out for a while. She had been blocked in the classroom for half an hour and then bullied in the bathroom for quite a long time. Now it was likely already close to seven o’clock, and since there were no evening classes and it wasn’t a boarding school, it would be hard to encounter anyone else.

So she could only…

Qing Li took two steps back, faced the door, took a deep breath, and kicked it.

“Bang!” A loud noise echoed in the quiet classroom building, and there was even a faint echo in the hallway.

But… the door held firm.

Nothing happened.

Qing Li silently looked at her thin little legs; they were too weak, and she didn’t have enough strength. Even if she knew martial arts, she couldn’t increase her power in such a short time.

Did she have to stay here?

Qing Li furrowed her brows; it had been quite a while, and her knee hurt in addition to her stomach growling from hunger.

The bathroom was tiled, and even though it was May and the weather was getting warmer, she was wearing short sleeves and a short skirt, yet she still felt cold and covered in goosebumps.

Did she have to spend the whole night in a place like this?

Qing Li searched the bathroom and found a mop. Grateful for the simple cleaning lady, she picked it up. The mop was wooden, not plastic, and she lifted it high, preparing to smash it down on the door lock.

“Bang!”

An even louder noise resonated, and this time it was followed by a continuous “bang bang bang—”.

Before long, the wooden end of the mop started to crack, and Qing Li was running low on strength. Fortunately, the door lock had loosened a bit, so a little more effort might be enough.

“Ugh!” Qing Li rested for two seconds before smashing down with the mop again.

This time, it struck the door.

The previously motionless door suddenly swung open from the outside. Qing Li quickly pulled back the mop and looked outside. A tall, slender boy in a school uniform with somewhat limp hair stood there. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” Qing Li shook her head and smiled. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” the boy replied coldly before turning to leave.

Seeing this, Qing Li quickly put the mop back where it belonged, closed the bathroom door, and headed out.

Her backpack was still in the classroom, but classrooms usually get locked after the last student leaves, and the key was with the class monitor and the teacher. She couldn’t get it, so she decided to go back empty-handed.

On her way, Qing Li glanced at the large clock hanging at the top of the teaching building. Sure enough, it was almost seven o’clock. The sun had already set, and the sky was darkening.

The school gate was deserted; the car that was supposed to pick up the original host had long gone.

Qing Li thought for a moment and ran to the security guard’s room.

The security guard, who had been dozing off, jolted awake and exclaimed, “Hey, why are you still here, young lady?”

Qing Li smiled apologetically. “I got held up a bit, Uncle. Could I borrow your phone? I need to call someone to come pick me up.”

“Sure, sure! Let your family know to hurry; it’s dark already, and they don’t even come to pick you up!” The security guard muttered, immediately handing over the phone.

Qing Li thanked him and began to dial. Since the original host had grown up relying on others, her sense of security was severely lacking. Even with a phone, she memorized some common contacts, including the driver responsible for picking her up.

After a while, the call connected. On the other end, the driver, Old Li, lazily said, “Who is it?”

Qing Li replied, “It’s Fu Qing Li. Uncle Li, I’m still at the school gate. Could you please come pick me up?”

Old Li paused for a moment, clearly sounding a bit impatient. “Oh, I see. But I’m with the young master right now, so you might as well take a taxi home.”

“Uncle Li…”

“I’m busy right now, so that’s it.” With that, he hung up.

Qing Li listened to the dial tone and smiled. The original host was young and naïve; she couldn’t understand that if Pei Mingjiang truly cared for her, he wouldn’t let others treat her with such disdain.

But since he had already benefited from the original host’s grandfather, could Qing Li let him off easily?

According to the timeline, the next year would be when the original host’s grandfather introduced the Pei family, and until then, no matter what she did, Pei Mingjiang would support her.

Qing Li didn’t intend to leave the Pei family; otherwise, she would be at a disadvantage. The Pei family had already reaped the benefits, and it was too late to spit them out. She had to make them pay something.

She dialed another number. Once the call connected, she said pitifully, “Grandpa, I’m still at school, and the driver doesn’t want to come pick me up. It’s getting so dark; that I’m afraid to go back alone. Should I ask the police to take me home?”

Pei Mingjiang: “???”

He jolted awake, his brain still trying to understand the situation, but he quickly said, “What police? Grandpa will send Ah Yue to get you right away.”

Twenty minutes later, a familiar car approached from a distance. Qing Li was chatting with the security guard, holding the warm water he had given her. Hearing the commotion, she turned to look, and as she was about to stand up, a red-haired, rebellious boy stepped out of the car.

The boy walked over, looking very displeased. He raised his foot and kicked the door, making a loud noise that shook the small security room. He said in a low voice, “Fu Qing Li, you’ve got some nerve! How dare you make Grandpa threaten me into coming to get you?!”

Qing Li’s expression hardened. She opened the door with one hand and splashed the hot water directly at Pei Xiuyue.

With a splash, Pei Xiuyue was completely taken by surprise, drenched from head to toe. He wiped his face in disbelief, and the water on his hands proved he had indeed been splashed.

His face twisted in anger. “Fu Qing Li, do you dare splash me?!”

Qing Li honestly nodded, “Yes, I dare.”

Pei Xiuyue: “???”
