Jiang Zheng had just been discharged from the hospital—only to be admitted again the very next day.

This time was even worse than the last. While he wasn’t crippled or disabled, there wasn’t a single uninjured spot left on his body.

The incident even made the social news:
“Citizen submission: A young man was beaten up by a gang of youths in an underground parking garage…”

Grandpa Jiang was livid when he heard about it. Leaning on his cane, he shouted in the hospital room, “What the hell happened? Who beat you up? How did you manage to piss off that many people?!”

Jiang Zheng’s face was covered in bandages. He couldn’t speak and looked utterly miserable, just shaking his head.

It meant he didn’t know.

Or rather, he couldn’t know.

Just because his previous stunt passed quietly didn’t mean framing Jiang Qingli for drug use would go unpunished. The reason Grandpa Jiang had gone along with Jiang Zheng’s plan was that he was worried his grandson had lost his judgment. If he did something like that, his fate would likely be even worse than Jiang Qingli’s—especially since he was already an adult.

Grandpa Jiang was furious and threatened to call the police.

But Jiang Zheng refused—he thought it would be too embarrassing.

So the incident was buried. From that point on, Jiang Zheng had a bodyguard assigned to him, courtesy of Grandpa Jiang. Even if he no longer held power, he still had plenty of money.

Meanwhile, Jiang Qingli, the mastermind behind it all, never once showed herself to them. She was content to secretly enjoy the satisfaction.

Jiang Xi was well aware of everything. To him, Jiang Zheng had always been just a stepping stone for Qingli. That stepping stone had now served most of its purpose, so Jiang Xi didn’t care anymore. He simply reminded her, “Don’t let play distract you from your goals.”

“I won’t,” Qingli promised. “I’m still planning to knock you off your throne.”

“Heh,” Jiang Xi snorted and threw a pile of work at her. “Finish this before the end of the day.”

Qingli shrugged and got back to it.

There was no rush to take revenge for the original Qingli. She was only sixteen. It wasn’t realistic to completely leave the Jiang Corporation and start from scratch. How long would it take to grow strong enough to compete with them?

The power she needed was right in front of her. All she had to do was behave for a little while and it would be hers. Why not take the easy route?

Qingli worked diligently. She started off pretending to be a clueless rookie, gradually became more skilled, and eventually was able to handle major responsibilities on her own. Once she reached that point, Jiang Xi transferred her to a branch office for field experience.

Only a year had passed since she started.

In that time, she made rapid progress at work without neglecting her studies. She had a private tutor who came to her house every day for three-hour sessions—and even longer on weekends.

Luckily, she had landed in the body of a rich kid. To avoid exhaustion and malnutrition, she hired a professional nutritionist and chef to prepare all her meals, and a live-in housekeeper to handle her daily needs. That was the only way she could fully devote herself to both work and study.

Her performance was so impressive that word spread throughout headquarters. The board of directors placed high hopes on her, and the branch company she was assigned to was by no means small.

Jiang Zheng also heard about her stellar record when she was transferred.

After a year, his resentment toward Jiang Qingli had only grown—and now it was mainly fueled by how outstanding she was.

He had always been wary of her intelligence. His father had once been surpassed by his younger brother, ten years his junior, and could never catch up again. Jiang Xi’s excellence had always been a bitter pill for his father to swallow.

That fear had been passed down to Jiang Zheng.

At first, he didn’t consider Jiang Qingli a real threat. She was just a teenage girl, and one with no real guidance in life. He thought it’d be easy to lead her astray—and once she fell, she’d never get back up again.

But now he could feel the pressure mounting.

In fact, her brilliance had caused some board members—who had once supported him—to quietly distance themselves.
