Chapter 247
Qingli didn’t stay at the old house.
Before coming back, she and Jiang Xi had already agreed: she would keep her school registration, return to take her midterms and finals, and spend the rest of her time learning how to run a company under his guidance.
Returning to the old house was just to beat up Jiang Zheng—and to piss off Grandpa Jiang a little while she was at it.
Because her visit to her grandparents’ house delayed things by a day, Jiang Xi looked at her with a complicated expression when he dropped her off. Qingli thought something was wrong, but it turned out he just wanted her to take another day off.
So, the next day, she packed up and moved out.
The Jiang family owned plenty of properties. There was even a place near the headquarters, and Qingli picked a high-end apartment to live in.
The day she moved out, Grandpa Jiang heard the news and immediately called her, trying to say nice things. Qingli refused him flatly, leaving him so furious he almost had another episode—but at least after that, he dropped the subject.
Once the move was settled, Qingli had to get to work. From that day on, Jiang Xi had a little tail following him around.
Qingli’s first day at the company shocked everyone.
She didn’t dress in a suit, trying to look grown-up—her face was too youthful for that—so she just wore something comfortable.
Walking behind Jiang Xi, who looked every bit the elite professional, and taking the executive elevator, she drew plenty of curious glances from employees waiting on the other side during the morning rush.
“Why is President Jiang bringing a young girl with him? A relative’s kid with nowhere to go?” someone whispered.
An older employee guessed, “That’s probably his kid.”
“President Jiang has a kid?!” gasped the group.
“Yeah, he’s had one for a while!”
“Right, I remember—he got married super young, had a kid the next year, but his wife passed away…”
The new hires looked completely stunned.
Although most people knew Jiang Xi had married young and had a child, since he was a notorious workaholic, no one thought of him as a father. They even used to joke behind his back that he was a bitter bachelor, which is why he took it out on everyone else.
But turns out he had a kid!
And she was old enough to be his heir!
The kicker was…
“Wait a sec—why does that girl look so familiar?”
As the elevator doors opened and people flooded in, one young woman suddenly shouted, “Ah! That was Jiang Qingli! Holy crap, she’s President Jiang’s daughter?!”
“Who’s that?”
“Jiang Qingli, don’t you know her? She’s the one who got Turning the Tables pulled off the air last month! The show’s still fighting a lawsuit with her legal team. She’s a hero—saved so many kids from that garbage program!”
“Oh, her! Yeah, I heard about that. Didn’t expect her to be President Jiang’s daughter, though!”
“6666! No wonder—a workaholic’s kid!”
So, before the workday even officially began, the news that Jiang Qingli was Jiang Xi’s daughter—and that she was working at the company—had already spread throughout headquarters and even reached the branch offices.
Even though Qingli didn’t promote herself in any way, the fact that she took down an entire production team and landed the people responsible in legal trouble had been talked about online for weeks. Her name had become unforgettable for many.
Once the real work began, Qingli started shadowing Jiang Xi and doing basic secretary tasks. Even when she went to make coffee, people would crowd around and some even asked for her autograph, leaving her amused and slightly embarrassed.
Still, being liked by people was a pleasant feeling.
When she returned from the break room, she still had a smile on her face.
Jiang Xi’s voice suddenly rang out from the office: “Do you ever regret not debuting as a celebrity? If you want, I can help you.”
“No need. I like this better,” Qingli replied without hesitation, her tone firm.
Jiang Xi looked up at her, and for the first time, a glimmer of admiration appeared in his eyes. “What position are you aiming for?”
“Obviously the one where I get to kick you off the throne,” she replied with a grin.
Normally, Jiang Xi’s pride wouldn’t allow anyone to talk to him like that. But Qingli was the heir he had high hopes for. Her blatant ambition didn’t irritate him—instead, it stirred something inside him, and his usual mask-like smile deepened with genuine amusement.
He rummaged through the files on his desk and handed her a stack of documents. “Alright. I’ll be waiting. Today’s task—translate this.”
Qingli took the papers and sat at the small desk newly installed in his office to get to work.
The office returned to its usual quiet.
When Jiang Xi took a break from his work, he glanced over at the girl buried in her task. Ever since she got the assignment, she hadn’t looked up once. She was completely focused. That sweet, youthful face had gone blank, replaced with a calm and inner chill that was hard to ignore.
Just watching her like this, Jiang Xi had a feeling—given time, she would surpass him.
If he had known that provoking her a little would help her realize the value of power, he would’ve done it sooner.
Still…
Jiang Xi smiled quietly.
It wasn’t too late now.
On Qingli’s first day, Jiang Xi didn’t make her work overtime. When the clock hit the end of the day, he reminded her to go home: “Your tutor is already waiting outside. Go back and study.”
“Alright.” Qingli stretched lazily, tidied up her desk, made sure everything was in order, then grabbed her bag and left.
