Chapter 246

On her first day back home, Qingli managed to beat up Jiang Zheng and land Grandpa Jiang in the hospital. Not a bad start at all.

When Jiang Xi heard about it, he stopped mid-sentence while reviewing a file. His mind was completely occupied by the news to the point that he nearly forgot the project details. He asked in disbelief, “He’s in the hospital? Is it serious?”

The assistant shook his head. “I called the hospital. It’s nothing major. Just a spike in blood pressure—he’s old and couldn’t handle the stress. He’s stable now. As for Jiang Zheng… it’s mostly superficial injuries. Painful, yes, but nothing serious.”

Jiang Xi looked even more surprised. “She did that all by herself?”

“Yes,” the assistant confirmed, still in disbelief.

Word from the old house was that a sixteen-year-old girl had pinned a twenty-six-year-old grown man to the ground and beaten him senseless. His face was swollen like a pig’s head. Worst part? Certain sensitive areas got hurt too. No one even took him to the hospital—he had to ask the butler to drive him there once he regained consciousness.

Jiang Xi felt a headache coming on, but he also couldn’t help smiling. After everything that had happened, this daughter of his turned out to be pretty ruthless.

And he didn’t mind that one bit.

Jiang Xi liked people like her. Only someone like that could take over the company and expand its reach.

He’d kept himself in great shape, but after so many years, the fire of youth had died down. Jiang Corp needed fresh blood, someone who could fight.

With that in mind, Jiang Xi picked up his phone and made a call.

As soon as the call connected, Grandpa Jiang’s furious voice came through: “Did you teach A-Li to be like this? How did she suddenly turn so violent? A young girl, and she’s out there beating people up—her cousin, no less! If I hadn’t known better, I would’ve thought she was crazy!”

Jiang Xi replied coolly, “Didn’t he deserve it?”

Grandpa Jiang paused. “Ah Zheng already apologized! What more do you want from him?”

“Well then, if A-Li apologizes to him now, does that make them even?” Jiang Xi said calmly.

Grandpa Jiang wanted to argue that it wasn’t the same thing.

But the more he thought about it, the more he realized… it kind of was the same. Jiang Zheng had secretly pulled strings, paid people to mess with his cousin. Now Jiang Qingli beat him up in his face. He lost the fight, simple as that. Fair game.

What bugged him was that Qingli was a girl, and girls shouldn’t go around hitting people, especially not in those places.

But clearly, Jiang Xi didn’t care about any of that. He hadn’t even bothered much with Qingli in the past, and trying to control her now was pointless.

Grandpa Jiang fell silent for a while before finally grumbling, “At least give Ah Zheng some compensation. A-Li didn’t get hurt, but Ah Zheng—he’s seriously injured! You should see him! And with your older brother’s family not around, the poor kid’s all alone—”

“He’s alone because my brother chose not to be here,” Jiang Xi cut in coldly.

That shut Grandpa Jiang up instantly.

Still, Jiang Xi didn’t completely shut down the request. “I’ll give him some work. Let him get some experience.”

That pleased Grandpa Jiang. Even though he still felt a bit bitter, Jiang Xi’s concession was already more than he expected. He had worked hard to get Jiang Zheng into the company, but with Jiang Xi in control, the boy hadn’t gotten much exposure.

The kid did put effort into everything, though. Grandpa Jiang felt bad for him.

Deal done, the call ended.

Grandpa Jiang turned to his bruised and battered grandson.

Jiang Zheng had overheard everything. When he saw his grandfather looking at him, he lowered his voice and said, “Grandpa, you don’t have to say anything. I was wrong. A-Li had every right to be mad.”

“What do you mean right to be mad? Even if she’s mad, she shouldn’t hit people—especially not there!” Grandpa Jiang snapped. Just thinking about it made him angry. If she’d only hit his face, fine. But she went for the most important part of a man. What if it affects his fertility?

Jiang Zheng’s forced smile froze, and he lowered his head in silence.

Grandpa Jiang patted his arm. “Your uncle knows A-Li went overboard. He said he’ll give you more responsibilities—use the opportunity wisely!”

Jiang Zheng lit up. “Really?”

“Of course! Your grandpa made it happen!” Grandpa Jiang thumped his chest with pride.

Jiang Zheng smiled contentedly, but deep in his eyes was a greedy hunger for power.

The Jiang Corporation… such massive influence. One way or another, he’d get his share.

Qingli had barely hung up one call before getting another.

This time it was from Jiang Xi.

She smiled. Things were different now. Very different from her past life. Everything she’d done recently—decisive, calculated, and bold—was far beyond what the sixteen-year-old original Qingli had been capable of. And it had completely changed Jiang Xi’s attitude toward her. He would’ve never called her himself before.

She answered the phone. Jiang Xi’s low voice came through, unexpectedly gentle:
“A-Li, your good deed just landed on my plate. Now I have to clean it up.”

Qingli smiled like a normal daughter. “Of course you do. Otherwise, how are you my dad?”

Jiang Xi chuckled, clearly pleased by her answer. This was the kind of daughter he liked—bold and daring, not the timid girl who used to avoid him and barely spoke. His voice grew even softer. “It’s all handled. Your grandfather won’t bring it up again. But you’ll have to give me something in return.”

“Like what?” she asked.

“Come to the company tomorrow,” he said.

“Sure,” Qingli agreed without hesitation, like she’d already decided.

She’s got ambition now, Jiang Xi thought, even more satisfied. But as a father who had been absent for years, he didn’t quite know what else to say, so he was about to end the call.

“Wait!” Qingli stopped him.

“Yes?” Jiang Xi asked.

“Grandpa and Grandma just called me. They want you to bring me over to their place.”

A huge grin spread across Qingli’s face—full of mischief.

Back when the original Qingli’s mother died, it had everything to do with Uncle Jiang. But Grandpa Jiang had always protected him, which led to serious resentment from Qingli’s maternal grandparents. They had cut ties with the Jiang family ever since. Still, they always cared deeply for Qingli.
