By the time Shen Yanjun’s former agent called to give him a heads-up, he’d already been roasted online for hours.

He went online, saw the situation, and immediately paid to have the trending post removed. Then he called his father to tell him to stop pulling PR stunts like this.

His father was not pleased and gave him a lecture. After hanging up, Shen Yanjun looked down and saw Xu Yin’s worried expression. He smiled faintly, pretending to be unbothered.

“It’s nothing serious. Don’t worry. I heard babies start moving around in the womb at four months. Ours should be close, right?”

Xu Yin covered her mouth, laughing. “Still over a month to go. Don’t get ahead of yourself.”

Shen Yanjun gave a slightly embarrassed smile, then casually added, “By the way, I won’t be home for lunch this weekend. I have a client I really can’t cancel on.”

Xu Yin’s heart tightened. She noticed that he wouldn’t even meet her eyes as he spoke. Her heart sank a little, but she still nodded obediently.

The weekend arrived quickly.

At exactly noon, Life: 24 Hours released a new episode. Shen Yanjun opened it immediately.

There were three regular guests and one guest star. The first segment didn’t feature Huo Qingli, so Shen Yanjun fast-forwarded, waiting until she appeared before watching seriously.

The bullet comments were full of users who had rushed over because of the recent trending topics. Most of them skipped directly to Huo Qingli’s part and hit play.

The first image was of a lavishly decorated villa, opulent in every detail.

The camera moved throughout the villa before stopping in a bedroom.
Time stamp: 7:30 a.m.

That’s way too early!

Shen Yanjun remembered that back when they were together, Huo Qingli rarely woke up this early. Could it be the Chi family making her?

At that moment, the camera revealed a couple sleeping in each other’s arms.

Shen Yanjun’s mind went completely blank. A wave of tightness and pain gripped his chest and spread to his core, making it hard to breathe. Even his liver felt sore. His face twitched from the ache.

He should’ve seen this coming.

But he didn’t expect it to hit so hard.

“Phew…” Shen Yanjun let out a heavy sigh and gave a bitter smile, just as the bullet comments lit up:

That last one gave Shen Yanjun a tiny bit of comfort.

Time kept moving. Chi Yue opened his eyes. Still groggy, he carefully released the person in his arms and slid out of bed.

Though his legs were paralyzed, he hated being helped, so he’d trained his upper body strength. Bracing with both arms, he smoothly transferred himself into the wheelchair and rolled into the bathroom.

The footage sped up. He washed up first, squeezed toothpaste onto another toothbrush, placed a leather strap from the night before back in its proper place, changed his clothes, and laid out clothes for his wife.

The entire time, he moved his wheelchair himself, barely making any noise. Then he rolled out.

About ten minutes later, Qingli woke up. She didn’t seem surprised that the bed beside her was empty. She went into the bathroom, picked up the toothbrush, and brushed her teeth without even checking for toothpaste.

She then entered the dressing room and changed into the clothes Chi Yue had prepared.

When she went downstairs, breakfast was ready. Chi Yue’s parents were already seated. They greeted her warmly.

Chi Yue came out of the kitchen, followed by the housekeeper carrying two breakfast plates. Each had a sunny-side-up egg.

The housekeeper smiled, “Ah Yue’s eggs today are way better than the first time. Qingli, come and have a look!”

“Wow~ major improvement!” Qingli praised generously, then leaned over and kissed him loudly on the cheek.

Chi Yue’s parents didn’t even blink. They just calmly kept eating.

The housekeeper grinned like a proud aunt.

As for the man who’d just been kissed, his pale face instantly flushed red. His strong, cool demeanor vanished, replaced by a sweet, bashful softness. Viewers on the other side of the screen collectively lost it.

Shen Yanjun had already been feeling uncomfortable seeing what Chi Yue had done earlier, but this… watching Huo Qingli kiss Chi Yue, especially with the show editing the moment and replaying it three times—it was torture.

He kept watching over and over, eyes glued to the screen like he was under a spell. He could barely breathe.

He had to admit: if this wasn’t all for show, then Chi Yue had done far better than he. No wonder when he went to see Qingli before, she had rejected him without hesitation.

Just then, Xu Yin called. She said she had a nightmare and missed him.

Shen Yanjun took the opportunity to close the video and replied without hesitation, “I’ll come home and be with you.”

Xu Yin was surprised. “Weren’t you meeting that client?”

“They had something come up and left early,” he said with a bitter smile, eyes closed.

There had never been a moment clearer than this—he had truly, irrevocably lost Huo Qingli because of his own ignorance and stupidity.

Since that was the case, he might as well hold on to the light from his childhood… and try to live a good life from here on out.
