Qingli could tell Chi Yue’s resistance didn’t stem from dislike, so she wasn’t offended. Instead, she adjusted her posture again and met his gaze with effort.

There was no hidden meaning behind the look—she just wanted to express her sincerity. Yet even so, Chi Yue’s pale cheeks visibly turned red.

“I don’t see it as a sacrifice,” she said seriously.

Chi Yue pressed his lips tightly together. It felt like he had split into two people. One part of him was focused entirely on her eyes—those sincere eyes… Could it be true that she didn’t look down on him?

The other part was fixated on what she said: she didn’t think it was a sacrifice. So… did that mean she had some feelings for him?

His heart was practically bouncing around inside his chest, making him feel light-headed from the rush. No matter how hard he tried to hold it back, a smile still slipped through, softening his normally pale, somber features.

“You still have time to back out,” Chi Yue finally said after a deep breath, managing to pull himself together.

He didn’t agree right away because he feared she’d regret it. A marriage alliance wasn’t just a deal—it meant living together day and night, married to a man who couldn’t even walk.

Qingli chuckled lightly. “Chi Yue, just hearing you say that makes me even more confident about our marriage. If you’re not against it, then let’s go talk to our families about the wedding arrangements, shall we?”

Her words hit him like a tidal wave, utterly washing away any resistance. He nodded slowly, defeated but dazed.

Then she naturally stepped behind him and began to push his wheelchair, as if she had done it a thousand times before.

Because the Shen family had stayed up partying too late the night before, they didn’t get up until nearly noon the next day.

Shen’s mother came downstairs, yawning, and asked the kitchen to make something light. Just then, her cousin, hair still messy and barely dressed, rushed down the stairs, heading to the entryway in a hurry like he was escaping.

“Drive safe,” Shen’s mother replied, unconcerned, sipping her tea to shake off the grogginess.

But then, just moments after he left, two more young Shen relatives rushed out in a panic. Shen’s mother tried to call after them but got no response. Frowning, she muttered, “What’s with all of you? You think staying in my house is gonna curse your next life?”

Normally, she would’ve lost her temper seeing people act this shady. But she was in a good mood today—and besides, wasn’t it a workday? Let’s check if Chi Group’s stock hit the limit down today.

She opened her phone. One glance, and her smile vanished.

Her eyes locked on the screen. The market had already closed for the morning session, and Chi Group had hit the limit up?!

What the hell?!

Was this just a dead-cat bounce?

She stared at the post again and again, unable to believe that Huo Qingli and Chi Yue were getting married.

Her face twisted in disbelief, and rage boiled in her chest. She frantically searched for more news about Chi Group and saw another article, this time from a financial news outlet:

Crash! The phone shattered against the floor, right at the feet of one of her relatives who’d tried sneaking out. The sound froze him in place.

Seeing this, Shen’s mother instantly understood why everyone had been running—they’d all seen the news. And not a single one had told her before fleeing.

“What are you staring at? If you’re leaving, then LEAVE!” she barked.

The cousin grimaced and bolted. Damn, he knew this would happen. Should’ve gotten up earlier and escaped with the others.

Left alone, Shen’s mother tried to calm the storm in her chest—but it was no use. Furious, she stomped over to the landline and dialed her son.

Shen Yanjun hadn’t stayed over the night before. The house was chaotic, no one to take care of him, so he’d gone back to his place where Xu Yin could look after him.

He’d just woken up, head pounding, and answered the call irritably. “What now?”

His mother’s voice dripped with fury. “Great job! Huo Qingli and Chi Yue are getting married. The Huo family is investing twenty billion into the Chi family!”

Shen Yanjun: “???”

No way.

It sounded absurd—he nearly laughed. But oddly, something in his gut told him… the more ridiculous it seemed, the more likely it was true.

He didn’t say anything in response. Instead, he immediately opened his phone and searched for the news.

After reading it, Shen Yanjun sat up with a jolt, cursing out loud: “F**k!”

His chest burned with rage.

It was happening—an alliance between the two families.

And they picked the exact moment when the Chi Group was at its lowest. With Huo’s investment, it wasn’t just about saving the company. It was like the enemy of his enemy had become an ally—they were joining forces.
