Qingli’s attitude of not wanting living expenses changed the attitude of the Xia family parents.
The situation took a sharp turn. Originally, Xia Yong had hoped that his daughter would realize her mistake and behave more obediently, but after two days of feeling frustrated and unsure of what to do, he wasn’t sure anymore.
He didn’t know whether to complain about how capable his daughter was, supporting herself in her second year of college, or to say that she was too capable, fearing that his second child would truly become someone he had to worry about in the future!
Unable to make up his mind, he decided to take a softer approach.
Xia Yong asked Yang Qing to stay in touch with their daughter more frequently, at least to maintain their relationship. A young woman who could support herself before graduation surely had a promising future.
Yang Qing naturally complied, not wanting to lose her daughter.
As a result, both of them started contacting Qingli more frequently than before.
This created some trouble for Qingli, as she was quite busy. Not asking for living expenses and being independent at such a young age sounded cool, but the effort required was not small.
She had to follow the original owner’s pace in this life and couldn’t do anything beyond her ability. She took tutoring seriously and worked hard.
To help her students improve, she had to research materials, study the curriculum progress and exam focuses for that age group, essentially learning the subjects again herself.
On top of that, she had her own studies in law to attend to, which was no small amount of work.
Fortunately, the family was generous and had never treated Qingli unfairly.
Even after two months of tutoring, the children’s grades improved significantly, and the parents were very pleased. They even introduced her to two more children, giving her more students and increasing her income.
So, unless Qingli happened to be on the road, she would quickly hang up the phone whenever her original parents called, unable to talk for long.
Time passed quickly, and the semester ended.
Unlike Eleven, Qingli didn’t go back during New Year’s, staying here to tutor the three children.
The last two days of the semester coincided with Yang Qing’s delivery.
Yang Qing, in her fifties, wasn’t as strong as she used to be, so the child was born prematurely, nearly a month before the due date.
By the time Qingli finished packing and rushed back from school, the baby had already been born for two days, looking wrinkled and red.
Seeing her eldest daughter, then her son, Yang Qing smiled weakly and said, “Ari, come look, this is your little brother!”
Qingli glanced at him, just in time to see the little boy, who was uncomfortable in Xia Yong’s arms and crying loudly, “Waa waa waa…” His voice made her frown, and she turned to Yang Qing and said, “You’re not feeling well. Rest first, don’t speak.”
Yang Qing nodded, then turned to Xia Yong, saying, “How have you forgotten how to hold a baby? Give him to me!”
“Hey, it’s been so many years since I held one,” Xia Yong chuckled awkwardly, quickly handing the child over.
Yang Qing had a C-section, and her stomach wound still hurt. With this movement, her face turned even paler, but she lovingly held the baby in her arms.
Xia Yong was also smitten by the baby, and when the child stopped crying, he grinned, “Ah, after all these years, I couldn’t hold my head up in front of my brothers, but now I finally have a son!”
Qingli shook her head. Women were really scary when it came to their self-sacrificing nature.
For their son, they didn’t even feel the pain anymore.
She quietly stepped back, just as a crowd of Xia family relatives arrived, having heard the news.
One of them immediately grabbed her, “Ari, you have a little brother now. Aren’t you happy?”
Qingli slowly replied, “Not happy.”
The relative, who had been smiling brightly, froze. “You’re joking, right? How could you not be happy? He’s twenty years younger than you and won’t be competing for your attention.”
Qingli smiled, “Well, would you be happy if your parents suddenly had a son now?”
The relative immediately fell silent. Her parents were almost seventy, and if they had another child, it would be up to her to take care of it. Who would be happy about that? She shook Qingli’s hand off and squeezed into the hospital room.
After dealing with the relative, Qingli felt refreshed and left. She had only come to see Yang Qing. Before the second child, Yang Qing had been very kind to the original owner, and there were grudges to settle and favors to repay. She needed to see how badly Yang Qing had been hurt so she could help her recover.
As for her little brother… wasn’t it his biological parents’ responsibility to care for him?
After the bustle subsided, Yang Qing looked up and saw that her daughter was no longer around. She felt a little lost, looking at the son everyone was envious of, but not feeling as happy as before.
It seemed like her daughter only glanced at him. Did she dislike children?
But now the child was born, so what could be done?
She just had to make do.
With the son, the couple was quite busy for a while. The only comfort Yang Qing had was that every evening, her daughter would bring soup for her to drink.
The taste was average, but considering her daughter had never cooked before, it was already quite good.
Yang Qing had almost died from blood loss during the surgery, but luckily, she survived. Her health was still fragile, and she needed to stay in the hospital for at least half a month. She ate well and had soup every day, and her body, which had been too weak to speak earlier, was gradually recovering.
The only issue was that her daughter would just bring soup, drink it, and then leave. She didn’t even look at her little brother when she came into the room.
Even when Yang Qing asked her to hold him, Qingli would glance at the baby, then make an excuse to leave immediately.
“When we go home, I’ll be watching her closely. I don’t believe she doesn’t like this little brother. My son is so cute!” Xia Yong said happily, holding the baby.
Yang Qing had concerns but was also amused by this, giving him a playful look and saying, “Oh, you’re something else.”
“It’s the truth!” he muttered under his breath like a child. Yang Qing’s heart softened when she saw him, but she still couldn’t help but worry, reminding him, “You said you wanted a son, now you’ve got one. You’ll be busy, at least we need to think about getting a house, right?”
It didn’t matter much if the girl didn’t have a house—her side would have one. But without a house, the son wouldn’t be able to marry.
