Seeing that she had realized what was happening, Yu Xiaoxiao continued, “Tsinghua University and Beijing University are having a debate competition in a couple of days. You and I are both members representing our schools. We were just exchanging competition experiences; there was no deal involved.”
“You didn’t know Lin Qiao would be attending the dinner party beforehand, did you? After all, your relationship with Lin Qiao is so bad. Even if Zhou Yuan threatened you with a promotion to bring Lin Qiao, you couldn’t do anything about it. This isn’t the first time Zhou Yuan has done this kind of thing. So many girls have been deceived and tricked by him. What truth could a notorious criminal possibly tell you? Everything still needs evidence!”
As she spoke, she gently took Cheng Ling’s hand.
“So, I think Lin Qiao definitely won’t blame you, after all, you didn’t know anything, did you?”
After Yu Xiaoxiao finished speaking calmly, Cheng Ling suddenly remembered that Zhou Yuan was caught red-handed because Yu Xiaoxiao arrived in time. In other words, in Lin Qiao’s eyes at this moment, she was not only not an accomplice who harmed her, but also a benefactor who saved her from dire straits.
After rescuing Lin Qiao, Yu Xiaoxiao’s first action wasn’t to call the police, but to call Su Zhengxing. This was to make Su Zhengxing indebted to her. In this way, Su Zhengxing would likely help her stay at Baitian out of gratitude. She would not only achieve her goal but also gain fame!
Cheng Ling felt as if she had fallen into an ice cave, her voice trembling, “So all of this was planned by you? You used me to lure Zhou Yuan into making a move, and from the very beginning, your plan was to make Lin Qiao and Su Zhengxing grateful to you?”
Since things had come to this, Yu Xiaoxiao decided to stop pretending. She leaned closer and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, “Didn’t you tell me? It’s better to rely on yourself than on others. I was just going with the flow.”
Cheng Ling glared at her and threatened, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell everyone about everything?”
Yu Xiaoxiao smiled noncommittally: “Go ahead and tell them, see if anyone believes you.”
Indeed, in the eyes of the others at Baitian, Cheng Ling and Yu Xiaoxiao had almost no connection, let alone being accomplices.
At that time, their negotiation took place in Yu Xiaoxiao’s car. If Yu Xiaoxiao deleted the recording from her dashcam and stubbornly denied their conversation, insisting they were discussing a debate, Cheng Ling wouldn’t be able to clear her name even if she had eight mouths.
Besides, implicating Yu Xiaoxiao wouldn’t benefit her at all; it would be tantamount to admitting that Yu Xiaoxiao had anticipated Zhou Yuan’s actions and might even drag her down with her.
If she pretended to know nothing, as Yu Xiaoxiao suggested, she could not only shift all the blame onto Zhou Yuan, but with Yu Xiaoxiao’s testimony corroborating it, Lin Qiao wouldn’t be able to blame her.
Although this way, without Zhou Yuan’s help, she still wouldn’t be able to stay at Baitian, it was better than needlessly offending Su Zhengxing and gaining a reputation as an accomplice to a drug criminal.
Seeing that she had figured things out, Yu Xiaoxiao slightly curled her lips and walked away.
“Don’t think you’re the only smart one in the world.”
In the end, Zhou Yuan was criminally detained by the police for illegal possession of prohibited drugs, poisoning, and attempted rape. He took all the blame.
…
Because she drank milk containing prohibited drugs, Lin Qiao went home to rest for a few days after receiving an IV drip at the hospital.
That evening, as Lin Qiao was packing her things, she opened her bag and saw a brand-new smart bracelet inside. Her thoughts were drawn back to the morning she woke up in the hospital.
