In the last world, I was the male lead. Now, I’m just a background character.
After receiving the plot information, Mu Liuyin let out a long sigh while staring at the mission panel in front of him.
Well, considering what happened in the previous world, being a background character might not be so bad.
This is a modern-day world, and the mission target, Chu Jiyu, is currently seventeen years old. When summer break ends, she’ll be entering her senior year of high school.
Chu Jiyu was originally the sole heiress of the Chu Group. However, when she was six years old, her mother passed away. Not long after, her father, Chu Jianren, remarried. Her stepmother came into the house with a little girl of the same age.
At six, Chu Jiyu didn’t understand much. All she knew was that her stepmother didn’t treat her well, and whenever she was bullied and ran to her father for help, he would simply tell her to behave, not to be naughty, and most importantly, not to pick on her new little sister.
As she grew older, Chu Jiyu finally learned the truth—her stepmother’s daughter, Chu Ruoyi, was her half-sister, the product of her father’s affair. Sweet and innocent in appearance, Chu Ruoyi would always play the victim whenever conflicts arose, and Chu Jianren would inevitably side with her, scolding Chu Jiyu instead.
After discovering her father’s infidelity, Chu Jiyu, who had once longed for his affection, completely lost all hope. At just fifteen years old, she became rebellious—skipping classes, getting into fights, and letting her once-excellent grades plummet. Eventually, she failed to get into college.
Later, she accidentally discovered that her mother hadn’t died of illness—her father had killed her.
The Chu Group wasn’t originally surnamed “Chu” but “Su.” It was a business empire founded by her maternal grandfather. Since he only had one beloved daughter, he had given his blessing when she fell in love with Chu Jianren, believing the man to be deeply devoted.
But Chu Jianren turned out to be nothing more than a treacherous opportunist. After her grandfather passed away, he secretly began poisoning her mother with an undetectable slow-acting toxin. Once she died, he took advantage of his established position in the Su Group, along with the reputation of his late wife, and quickly rebranded the company under his name, turning it into the Chu Group.
Not long after, he brought home his former lover and their daughter, Chu Ruoyi, who was only a few months younger than Chu Jiyu.
When Chu Jiyu discovered the truth about her mother’s murder, she began gathering evidence to expose her father’s crimes. However, too much time had passed—many details had become difficult to verify.
Before she could gather solid proof, she was set up—kidnapped and forcibly injected with drugs. When she woke up the next day, the police arrested her on charges of drug use. She was thrown into prison, and before long, she was dead.
Viewing the story from a godlike perspective, Mu Liuyin knew exactly who was behind the setup—Chu Ruoyi.
Despite her sweet and innocent demeanor, Chu Ruoyi had always despised both Chu Jiyu and her mother. Even after moving into the Chu family, people still whispered that she was the child of a mistress.
In her eyes, her mother and father were true lovers, while Chu Jiyu’s mother was the one who had broken them apart.
So, when the time came to eliminate Chu Jiyu, she had no hesitation. She hired people to frame her, and in the end, Chu Jiyu died with the world believing she was a drug addict.
Mu Liuyin also knew that Chu Jiyu’s grandfather had secretly drafted a will, leaving all of his Su Group shares to Chu Jiyu once she came of age. This will had been stored in a bank vault, with only her mother aware of its existence.
Unfortunately, while her mother had taught her Morse code and used it to write down the location and vault passcode in Chu Jiyu’s notebook, she never explicitly told her daughter about the will.
At the time of her mother’s death, Chu Jiyu was still too young to understand. By the time she needed it, she had no idea it existed. And so, when she died, the will remained buried in that bank vault, forever unknown to the world.
This time, the primary mission was to guide the rebellious Chu Jiyu back onto the right path and prevent her from being framed and imprisoned.
Tch. Straightening out a rebellious teenage girl?
Sounds like a challenge.
This time, Mu Liuyin had transmigrated into the body of Chu Jiyu’s senior-year teacher. A new hire, no less.
The original host was twenty-six years old, with two years of teaching experience. His family background was ordinary, and while he wasn’t as stunningly handsome as Yin Xiu from the previous world, he was still good-looking—refined features, gentle temperament, a handsome young man in his own right.
According to the storyline, due to her rebellious nature, Chu Jiyu’s once-outstanding academic record collapsed, landing her in H City’s worst-ranked high school, Fourth High. When class assignments were made, she was placed in the lowest-performing class.
At first, some male students tried to flirt with her because of her beauty, only to end up getting beaten so badly that they had to crawl away. After that, her reputation spread quickly.
During a school brawl between Fourth High and Second High, Fourth High was outnumbered and losing. By chance, Chu Jiyu happened to pass by. Unable to stand by and watch, she joined the fight. She alone took down five opponents, turning the tide of the battle and securing a victory for Fourth High.
From that moment on, she became the undisputed leader of Fourth High’s troublemakers—the infamous school bully.
Of course, she never admitted it herself.
From her first year to her senior year, Chu Jiyu’s reputation as the school bully remained undefeated. And so did her ranking in academics—she was always number one… from the bottom.
The First Day of Senior Year.
Mu Liuyin walked into Class 10 of the senior year, holding a roster and textbooks.
The classroom was a chaotic mess, with students chatting and playing around.
When they noticed him enter, there was a brief moment of silence—but only for a second.
Soon, the noise resumed.
Mu Liuyin tapped his knuckle against the blackboard and said coolly, “Everyone, get back to your seats. Now.”
Although in this life, she had a delicate and harmless appearance, the aura she had honed on the battlefield in her past life was more than enough to intimidate these unruly kids.
As the students hurried back to their seats, Mu Liuyin noticed a girl quietly lying on her desk in the last row, near the wall, seemingly asleep. Next to her was an empty desk—one that no other student dared to sit at.
Once everyone had settled down, Mu Liuyin smiled and said, “Hello, everyone. I’m Ning Xi, your homeroom teacher and math instructor for the year.”
After speaking, she picked up a piece of white chalk and wrote “Ning Xi” on the board, along with her contact information.
“Now, let’s take attendance.”
“Xiao Xiao.”
“Here.”
“Zhou Yucheng.”
…
…
“Chu Jiyu.”
When she read the last name, there was no response. Raising an eyebrow, Mu Liuyin glanced toward the last row, where the girl remained asleep on her desk.
With a flick of her fingers, she snapped a small piece of chalk and tossed it precisely onto the girl’s head, where it bounced off.
The classroom fell silent. No one had expected that on the first day of senior year, the new homeroom teacher would throw chalk at the school’s infamous delinquent, who had held the title of last place for years.
The next moment, the girl jolted awake, her face filled with irritation as she shot a fierce glare at the culprit.
Annoyed, Chu Jiyu snapped, “What do you want, Teach?”
Oh? At least she still remembered to call her “teacher.”
Mu Liuyin looked at her with a straight face and asked, “So, you’re the legendary Chu Jiyu, Four High’s resident academic bottom-feeder?”
Chu Jiyu admitted without a hint of shame, “That’s me.”
Mu Liuyin calmly closed the attendance book. “Oh, attendance is complete. Next time, Chu Jiyu, please remember to stand up when you respond.”
Chu Jiyu blinked in confusion.
She had expected the teacher to scold her, which would have given her the perfect excuse to talk back and storm out of school.
But now… something felt off about this development.
Soon, Chu Jiyu realized a new problem—every time she tried to lay her head down and drift off to sleep, a piece of chalk would come flying her way, hitting her head with pinpoint accuracy.
After three consecutive hits, she was so irritated that any trace of drowsiness had completely disappeared. Yet, she couldn’t even lash out.
Grinding her teeth in frustration, she glared at the teacher standing at the podium, lecturing as if nothing had happened.
Damn it! How the hell was this guy so accurate with his throws?!
For the first time in her life, Chu Jiyu felt so utterly stifled in class.
Fortunately, the bell rang soon enough.
As Mu Liuyin stepped out of the classroom, Chu Jiyu immediately slumped onto her desk, hoping to catch up on sleep. But after several minutes, she realized she couldn’t relax at all.
Annoyed, she ruffled her short hair, then got up and headed to a secluded corner of the school to smoke.
Before long, the sound of approaching footsteps reached her ears, though she paid them no mind—until someone suddenly snatched the cigarette from her fingers.
Startled that anyone could take something from her so easily, Chu Jiyu was about to lash out when she looked up—only to see the tall young teacher standing before her, holding the cigarette she had barely started smoking.
Mu Liuyin extinguished it and casually tossed it into a nearby trash can. With a bright smile, he said, “Chu, smoking is a bad habit for minors, you know.”
Chu Jiyu shot him a cold glare. “Not your business.”
Unfazed by her attitude, Mu Liuyin sighed with exaggerated helplessness. “I’m afraid it is my business—because you’re my student.”
Chu Jiyu: “……”
This guy.
First, he kept her from sleeping in class by throwing chalk at her.
Now, he was meddling in her smoking habits?
What kind of nosy teacher was this?
Even her father didn’t bother to care about these things.
Scoffing, she said, “Well, thanks for your concern, but I don’t need it.”
Her voice was icy, and the soft, delicate features of her face were overshadowed by an unmistakable air of defiance.
