The security guard tried to stop her but couldn’t keep up; she was too fast, rushing out and disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Returning to the Chu family home felt like everything was finally settling down. Zhou Huaiya looked tired and her hair was a mess.
When she saw Yan Qing enter the room, she immediately stood up. “Why are you back this late? I sent you a message; everything’s fine now. Go back to class; Zhaozhao’s already asleep.”
She said it that way, but Zhou Huaiya was still touched. Yan Qing came back urgently, still wearing her school jacket, clearly just back from school.
Zhou Huaiya couldn’t help but think that Yan Qing was so good with Zhaozhao. She could trust her to take care of Zhaozhao, but she couldn’t help feeling that Zhaozhao should have a husband who loves and protects her instead.
In a brief moment, Zhou Huaiya thought about a lot, but she still smiled lightly.
Yan Qing shook her head with a smile. “It’s fine. I’ll go check on him. Aunt, could you ask the teacher for a leave for me?”
Zhou Huaiya looked conflicted but didn’t say anything more as Yan Qing passed by her to go upstairs.
The girl certainly knows her mind; she must be aware of what each decision means.
She picked up her phone and dialed.
Yan Qing climbed the stairs and happened to run into Jiang Cheng coming out of Zhaozhao’s room. Seeing her, Jiang Cheng sighed with relief. “Perfect timing, he wouldn’t sleep. I’ve already increased the dosage, but no use. Go comfort him; once he’s asleep, we can talk.”
Yan Qing nodded without saying much, heading inside.
Qin Zhen was watching him. The room was a mess, with easels knocked over, clearly just having been through a battle.
Yan Qing sniffed the air; there was a faint smell of blood.
She suppressed her curiosity and walked to Zhaozhao’s bed with a gentle smile. “Zhaozhao, I’m back.”
Zhaozhao’s eyes, red and irritated, slowly shifted toward her, focusing on her delicate, pretty face.
Yan Qing continued, “What’s wrong? Are you in pain? Where exactly?”
Zhaozhao blinked, his eyes watering a bit, his small lips pouting, looking both annoyed and pouty, as if he was angry but didn’t want to talk.
Yan Qing didn’t mind, speaking softly, like coaxing a child. “Hey, why are you ignoring me?”
The tone was gentle, almost soothing as if she were about to put him to sleep.
Zhaozhao’s irritation seemed to melt away, but he still didn’t want to speak, just watched her.
Yan Qing continued, “Well, if you’re hurting somewhere, I can just massage it a bit.”
She placed her hand on his temple, gently rubbing it, varying the pressure.
Zhaozhao closed his eyes contentedly, his pretty almond eyes squinting to a narrow slit, only seeing her delicate, slightly pointed chin.
As she moved her warm fingers from his temple to behind his ear, Zhaozhao finally spoke, “They won’t let me find you.”
Yan Qing chuckled lightly. “You’re upset about that?”
Zhaozhao’s eyes widened again, suddenly sharp like a sword unsheathed. “They won’t let me find you!”
His tone was much more forceful, clearly indicating the seriousness of the situation.
Yan Qing paused, recalling information she found online about possessive individuals—they exclude anyone who tries to harm someone they like. It was a bit convoluted but understandable. She asked cautiously, “Do you think they won’t let me appear in front of you?”
Zhaozhao’s clear voice darkened. “That’s exactly it!”
They’re forcing her to study, making her disappear from his sight.
Zhaozhao held it in for so long, now he finally blew up—it was quite considerate of him.
Yan Qing’s heart skipped a beat. She hurriedly said, “It’s not them, it’s me. I wanted to study. Are you blaming me?”
Zhaozhao shook his head immediately. “No!”
Yan Qing’s eyes curved with a smile, a thoughtful look in her clear, transparent eyes. “If you don’t like it, I won’t go. I can study at home just as well. Whenever you need me, I’ll be here.”
Zhaozhao’s eyes brightened immediately. The lingering aggression in his gaze vanished, replaced with the eagerness of a boy just receiving a promise from a girl he likes, super happy yet still a bit shy. “Okay!”
His mood lifted instantly. Seeing his clear eyes, Yan Qing removed the bindings from him, talking as she did so.
As they talked, the response from him grew softer. Yan Qing looked over and saw that Zhaozhao had already fallen asleep, his eyes tightly closed, his lips slightly curled.
Seeing this, Yan Qing also stopped talking, covered him with a blanket, and left the room.
As soon as she came out, Qin Zhen rushed in to keep watch.
They dared not leave Zhaozhao alone.
“Yan Qing, you just started improving in your studies and you’re already back home. Isn’t that wasting your potential?” Teacher Zhang sighed heavily.
He didn’t expect a promising student in his class to take a leave to go home just one day after rising to prominence, and then show up with parents saying she’s planning to study at home.
Is this madness?
His skeptical gaze fell on Chu’s couple.
Today, they were the ones who showed up.
Yan Qing quickly explained, “I decided to go home. Something happened at home, I couldn’t stay. Teacher, I’ll be back for every monthly exam, mid-term, don’t worry.”
The Chu couple felt embarrassed and guilty, looking away from Teacher Zhang’s gaze.
They hadn’t expected Yan Qing to go this far for Zhaozhao. This girl loves reading so much; choosing to study at home was something they never anticipated.
