Yan Qing still remembers how shocked she was when she first received the original owner’s memories and learned about Yan Xianhong’s betrayal.
Many things can be easily resolved if you just take a different approach.
The phone was on speaker, so both of Chu’s parents could hear it.
Zhou Huaiya saw her looking down and assumed she was upset, comforting her, “The way they treated you doesn’t really count as family anymore, so don’t be sad. If you’re worried about Yan Corporation, I can have Chu Heng buy it for you to keep.”
Yan Qing shook her head, her tear-filled eyes as clear as spring water, radiating joy. Her small, red lips curved into a smile. “Don’t need it; I’m just happy that my enemies finally got what they deserved.”
Zhou Huaiya looked more closely and saw that although she was crying, there was no real sadness in her eyes. He sighed in relief.
Suddenly, there was the sound of a wheelchair moving.
Yan Qing looked up and saw Chu Zhao frowning slightly, gazing at her.
The wheelchair rolled closer.
Yan Qing smiled faintly. “What’s wrong?”
She still spoke with a nasal twang, tears in her eyes, but she was smiling.
Her face was pale, and a hint of red was more noticeable against it.
Chu Zhao looked at her, extending his hand to present a beautiful silk handkerchief.
Yan Qing understood, took the handkerchief to wipe her tears, and discarded the used tissue into the trash.
The tears were dried, leaving just a faint redness around her eyes that wasn’t as noticeable.
Chu Zhao finally seemed at ease, his brows smoothing out as he spoke softly, “I went to paint.”
Yan Qing nodded. “Thanks for the handkerchief.”
“No problem.” Chu Zhao smiled, turning the wheelchair and rolling away.
The wheelchair was like a small car, with a handle you could easily control wherever you needed to go.
Carrying her backpack, Yan Qing walked back to school, feeling completely relaxed.
Now her only task was to focus on her studies.
As soon as she entered the dormitory, she noticed the other four girls left behind by Dong Meng all spring up like springs, staring at her with uneasy glances.
Yan Qing was short, malnourished from earlier years, just sixteen going on seventeen, and only about five foot two. She carried a large backpack and a box of milk, making her look especially small.
However, in Dong Meng’s eyes, she seemed towering.
Yan Qing raised an eyebrow, her pretty face betraying some confusion. “What? You want to fight?”
Dong Meng quickly shook her head, as did the others, but they all looked hesitant, unsure of what to do.
If it wasn’t a fight, then there was nothing to worry about. She appeared easy-going and straightforward, so she dropped her things, grabbed a bottle of milk, and started doing her homework.
Meanwhile, the four girls on her right stepped forward, lining up in a row, and sincerely apologized.
Their voices were serious and clear, not hesitant at all.
“Cough, cough…” Yan Qing choked slightly, coughing a few times.
The four girls looked embarrassed, mumbling in unison, “We’re sorry…”
“We didn’t mean to…”
Yan Qing waved her hand, her delicate, slightly worn bracelet standing out brightly in the dingy dorm. The girls all felt awkward, lowering their heads. Yan Qing was calm, raising a brow in confusion. “What’s the sudden apology about?”
The girls exchanged looks, with Dong Meng speaking for them, her voice slightly lower. “We used to think you weren’t clean, that your family was poor, you didn’t study properly, and you were stupid to like Yuan Ye. We targeted you, but now I realize I was wrong. I’m sorry.”
During the break, Yan Qing completely avoided contacting classmates. The only one who reached out was Xu Dongfeng, who, even while on vacation, was still using his phone to clarify things. After getting beaten up twice by his parents, he managed to tell the whole story.
Afterward, the class group chat fell silent for a long time.
Dong Meng also reflected for a long time.
Initially, she disliked Yan Qing because she seemed shy and unattractive, too thin, making Dong Meng feel like a big, strong girl in comparison.
Later, when she saw how Yan Qing could wear one outfit for ages, and even when her period came, the sheets and pants were all stained with blood, yet she didn’t throw them away and continued to wear them, Dong Meng and the others found her repulsive.
Although she didn’t have a noticeable odor, she never used body wash or shampoo.
Once the sophomore love letter incident broke out, that dislike turned into hatred.
Especially as Diao Xin Yi occasionally encouraged, the bravest of them, Dong Meng, couldn’t resist trying to discipline her, insisting she move out of the dorm.
Dong Meng didn’t know her limits, getting into the habit of bullying her, which lasted nearly a year.
This semester, when Yan Qing suddenly grew a backbone and challenged them as soon as she arrived, calming them down afterward.
Now, when Dong Meng looked at what was happening to Yan Qing, she felt guilty for not stepping in sooner.
The four girls chatted in the dormitory group chat, realizing they all had a sense of remorse, and decided to apologize sincerely in person this week.
Today in the afternoon, they arrived early, preparing, when Yan Qing walked in.
They felt guilty and nervous.
But now, speaking out, that tight, uncomfortable feeling in their chests finally dissipated.
Yan Qing listened, looking at them and immediately noticing their anxiety and tension, similar to when facing a teacher’s assessment. Especially Dong Meng, whose hands kept fidgeting with her shirt’s edges.
She smiled, her voice clear and strong. “I officially forgive you all.”
