“I used to think it was because of that time in the rain when you wanted to help him, opening a door to the outside world for him. But now, I think it’s your voice that caught his attention, or perhaps it triggered a reaction in him,” Jiang Cheng said, scribbling notes in his book.
At this point, Chu Zhao had been sedated and was asleep. Yan Qing had broken both of his hands and completely subdued his strength. Even though he was still in a manic state, he could no longer hurt anyone.
When Jiang Cheng arrived, he immediately administered a sedative, and Chu Zhao fell asleep quickly. Afterward, Yan Qing reset his elbows, and everything seemed to calm down at the Chu family’s house.
However, the Chu family was still anxious and on edge.
Jiang Cheng was now inquiring about the state of Chu Zhao’s outburst and taking notes.
Yan Qing listened carefully, occasionally offering additional details.
Zhou Huaiya was trembling in Chu Heng’s arms, completely terrified.
Chu Heng was also upset, but he managed to remain calm and spoke to Yan Qing. “You did well. If he tries to hurt you again, you can do the same thing.”
He didn’t say more, fearing that Yan Qing might hesitate next time, and if she did, his son could seriously hurt her. Even in a wheelchair, the strength of an adult man was much greater than that of a 16- or 17-year-old girl.
Yan Qing nodded, feeling a little embarrassed. It felt awkward to break someone’s son’s bones, especially in front of his mother. Although it was self-defense, she still felt a bit guilty.
Noticing the hesitation in her eyes, Zhou Huaiya tried to reassure her. “Qingqing, what you did was right. We won’t blame you.”
“Mm.” Yan Qing nodded quietly.
She didn’t understand why she remained so calm at that moment as if she had dealt with similar situations before. Her actions were swift and decisive, probably related to the memories she had before.
The system had told her before she was sent into this world that her original memories would be erased, but some instincts would remain, and what she had learned before wouldn’t be lost. With the right trigger, it could all return.
So, Yan Qing didn’t expect much from her memories.
Jiang Cheng continued to search through materials, comparing them with previous records.
The other four people in the living room sat in silence, afraid to disturb him.
After about half an hour of quiet, Jiang Cheng suddenly exclaimed, “I got it!”
Instantly, everyone looked up at him, their eyes fixed on him with anticipation.
“You’ve heard of ‘yandere’?” Jiang Cheng said. “Chu Zhao’s condition now is pretty close to that.”
Everyone shook their heads, looking at him for clarification. Jiang Cheng explained, “Yandere is a type of obsessive mental state, where someone becomes fixated on a person, a part of them, or something to the point of wanting to possess it entirely. They reject anyone who might harm the person they like, even going so far as to commit extreme acts. Like today, you wanted to leave, and his obsession with your voice caused him to focus on it, to the point of wanting to keep it… That’s why he was staring at your throat…”
Zhou Huaiya’s face went pale. “But Qingqing is a person, how could she become his possession like an object? He… he…”
Zhou Huaiya couldn’t finish her sentence.
Chu Heng asked, “Do you think he could… kill someone one day?”
Jiang Cheng gave a bitter smile and shook his head. “I’m not sure, but it’s certainly possible.”
The Chu family fell into silence.
Jiang Cheng didn’t know how to fix this. Psychologists weren’t all-powerful, especially since Chu Zhao rejected treatment. He was mostly normal, so it was difficult for anyone to get close to his heart. The only one who could was Yan Qing, but facing him alone was dangerous.
Chu Yang looked up from his phone, where he had been reading an explanation of “yandere.”
His face was filled with complex emotions as he frowned. “If my brother finds out, her voice will never leave him…”
Zhou Huaiya scolded him. “That’s impossible! Don’t come up with crazy ideas. If she leaves, it might make things even worse.”
Yan Qing, however, had a sudden spark in her eyes. She turned to Jiang Cheng and asked, “Is it possible? How can we tell him?”
