Chapter 40: The Arrival of the Princess, and Everyone Plays the Wild Game Together
Su Li was grumbling loudly, while Su Yao’s face was dark, and everyone around them looked shocked. Even the princess, who had just arrived and overheard the situation, wore a similar expression of disbelief. Ahem, of course, the princess wasn’t eavesdropping, after all, it was her banquet, and she had to step in to stop the fighting.
But really, could Su Li kill Li Feng? If she could, then Li Feng deserved it. After all, he had been in the military for years and couldn’t even handle a girl. All he did was boast with his words. He should go back and get himself re-trained.
As the scene was winding down, and everyone had gotten their share of gossip about the Su family, the princess waved her hand and led her children toward the group.
Madam Zhou, sensing the cue, shouted, “Stop! The princess has arrived!”
Everyone immediately straightened up, and bowed, and Su Li, seizing the moment while Han Yueyi and the others weren’t paying attention, quickly ran over and kicked Su Yao in the leg. Instantly, Su Yao’s extravagant feather robe sported a black footprint, and she trembled with fury, “You!”
But Su Li wasn’t bothered by her. In a flash, she returned to Han Yueyi and the others and greeted them properly.
The princess couldn’t help but smile inwardly. This child is actually kind of cute…
“Ahem, alright, no need for formalities.”
“You young ones are quite lively! If my Yunyang could have even half of your spirit, that would be wonderful.”
Everyone was unsure whether the princess was complimenting or criticizing, so no one dared speak. Even Han Yueyi looked at her like a mouse caught by a cat.
Only Li Feng, bleeding on the ground, brightened up and cried, “Princess, you have to stand up for Su Yao! Su Li is bullying her!”
Su Yao inwardly gritted her teeth. Did you even ask me if I wanted you to speak up for me?
She ground her teeth in silent fury and lowered her head, muttering through clenched teeth, “Brother Feng, I’m fine. Don’t say anything more.” If you keep talking, I really will be in trouble!
After all, that was the princess! They had been warned not to involve her in any schemes because once she got angry, all their plans would fall apart.
But Li Feng didn’t understand. He clumsily got up, shook his head, and looked at Su Yao with what he believed was a deep, romantic gaze. “Miss Su Yao, don’t worry. The princess is just and righteous. She will stand up for you!”
He patted his chest to show her that with him around, she had nothing to fear.
Damn it, Su Yao’s face darkened. This fool had to be ruined!
The princess, overhearing him, chuckled lightly. “So, if I don’t help Su Yao, then I’m unjust?”
Everyone gasped and looked at Li Feng with expressions full of pity. This fool was truly clueless.
Even Su Li was a bit impressed. Is this the power of novel plots? Not afraid of authority! What courage!
“This banquet was supposed to be a joyous occasion, lively and fun. Since Mr. Li has been injured, he should leave to recover,” the princess said.
A few guards stepped forward, dragging Li Feng away, while he continued to shout, “Princess, please stand up for Miss Su Yao!”
Su Yao mentally cursed and spat blood. Just die already!
When the shouting finally faded, the princess turned her gaze to Su Yao with a faint smile. “Miss Su, is there truly some ‘injustice’ here?”
The word “injustice” was said very heavily, making it clear that the princess was annoyed. Su Yao understood the situation and quickly shook her head, insisting that Li Feng had misunderstood and that nothing was wrong.
The princess studied her for a moment, then spoke slowly. “Fine. Since there’s nothing wrong, let the banquet continue.”
With the princess’s words, everyone relaxed and took their seats, though some were still deep in thought.
The singing and dancing were graceful, but the princess wasn’t in the mood to watch. She glanced at Su Li, who had gone from lively to looking like a frightened quail. With a smile at the corner of her mouth, she asked, “Are you Su Li?”
Hearing the princess call her, Su Li quickly swallowed her food, stood up, and curtsied. “Yes, I am Su Li.”
“I noticed you were holding a box earlier. Was it meant for me?”
This question hit the mark.
Su Li smiled brightly and responded, “Princess, this is a game I designed myself, and I wanted to present it to you.”
“A game?” The princess was intrigued. “What kind of game?”
“‘The Great Wilderness Monopoly!’”
At the mention of “Great Wilderness,” the normally silent Princess Yunyang suddenly lifted her head, eyes sparkling. Even the two normally stoic young men nearby seemed interested.
The princess, noticing her child’s excitement, urged, “Let me see.”
Su Li hurriedly brought the game box over. The first few seats at the banquet were occupied by Han Yueyi, Wang Boka, Zhao Wen, and the princess’s family. Su Li reached the center and opened the box, pulling out a large map. She struggled a little to unfold it, giving Wang Boka a signal.
As a regular customer at the West Tower Script Shop, Wang Boka understood the gesture immediately and quickly helped her spread out the map.
“Princess, this game is based on the Great Wilderness legends. The entire map is designed with the Great Wilderness as the backdrop. You’ll find places like Mount Buzhou, Jin Ao Island, and Kunlun among others.”
She continued pulling things out of the box. “In this game, players can choose races such as the Demon Race, Witch Race, and Spirit Race. And, by encountering certain opportunities, they can even change to other races.”
“Each player starts by rolling dice to determine their initial cultivation level, such as Earth Immortal or Heavenly Immortal. Then, they move along the board by rolling the dice and going through significant events in the Great Wilderness, gaining opportunities. The goal is to be the first to reach the level of a Saint and win.”
“That sounds interesting,” the princess chuckled lightly. “Since that’s the case, how about we play a round during this banquet? After all, the usual activities at the Chrysanthemum Feast are rather dull.”
Everyone naturally agreed.
The princess ordered the musicians to stop and had several long tables combined, spreading out Su Li’s map.
“We have so many people, can we all play this together?”
“According to the rules, it’s best to have five or six people play a round, but it’s fine. Since there are so many of us, we can split into teams, with each team representing a character.”
“Sounds good,” the princess said, looking at her children. “You three aren’t allowed to be on the same team. Go find some other partners. I’ll be on Su Li’s team.”
The three children sighed. The eldest, Gu Qing, walked over to Han Yueyi and joined him, Wang Boka, and Zhao Wen.
The second son, Gu Ming, sighed as well. He couldn’t choose the relaxed group his older brother took, so he picked the smarter ones, walking over to Zhao Wen and Qian Jin’s group.
Su Yao had intended to invite Princess Yunyang, but Yunyang glanced at Su Li, sighed, and went to join a group of younger, less significant girls.
Thus, Su Yao’s group was formed, and another group was led by a chubby boy.
With six teams in total, Su Li quickly began assigning roles, giving each team a die to start creating their characters.
Meanwhile, Han Yueyi and Wang Boka gathered together, whispering.
“San’er, what do you think…”
“Call me by my name properly!”
“Oh, Han Yueyi, do you think that story about Little Li is true? Li Feng…”
“I don’t know. When I first spoke with him, he seemed pretty calm and mature. Who knew…”
“Who knew he’d become such a fool once he saw Su Li and Su Yao?” Wang Boka muttered, even scolding Li Feng. He doesn’t even care about our childhood friendship.
“I don’t think Li Feng would act like that. Something must have happened to him these past few years to make him so ‘extreme.’”
Wang Boka didn’t believe Li Feng would act like the story suggested, but nodded in agreement. The two of them planned to investigate further and ask Li Feng what he had gone through. If they could straighten things out, they’d still be brothers.
“But when did he even meet Su Yao? Didn’t she just return to the Su family a month ago? Li Feng had been in the military before.”
Han Yueyi shook his head. He had just returned and had no idea.
Gu Qing, overhearing, spoke up. “I know.”
