Chapter 32: The Ancient Version of Werewolf (Part 3)
Wu Ming continued to blink his big eyes and act cute. “I… I don’t know anything. I’m a good person.”
He then nervously handed the hourglass in his hand to his second senior brother.
Wu Fei smiled as he took it, calmly resetting the hourglass. With an air of wisdom, he began, “Amitabha,” to calm the room.
“Everyone, I am a humble commoner. I did not open my eyes last night. As for what Zhao Si said about some noise on my side last night…”
He furrowed his brows, a little puzzled. “I can’t quite remember. Maybe I did move? But I am indeed a good person.”
“I also believe that my junior brother Wu Ming is a good person. When Master Zhao mentioned the Apothecary’s actions, only Wu Ming was moving, so it’s clear he is the Apothecary.”
“But as everyone here likely feels, we all know he is the Apothecary.”
“Which means, if someone pointed out the Apothecary’s identity to prove they are a good person, that is not trustworthy.”
Upon hearing Wu Fei’s words, Liu Tuhu touched his chin. Who was this guy implying?
No, wait. Liu Tuhu, without Wang Qingmu, you need to think more. Although this little monk seems to be stirring things up, his point isn’t without merit. But let’s reframe it – I protected Wu Ming, and also said I am a good person. The next person, Wang Bokao, added that he was a good person based on my information.
Isn’t that just overdoing it—pointless?
Speaking casually like that… tsk tsk. Luckily, I, old Liu, am smart enough to spot Wang Bokao’s trick.
Another point, is that Er Tong is also suspicious. Silent, he just says, “I agree with my young master.”
Damn, this is a game, why is he listening to what some “young master” says? Pathetic. But wait… thinking about it, Er Tong didn’t show much respect for his young master yesterday either, yet today he’s so obedient? Maybe he’s a werewolf, pretending to be good!
Hmph, he says nothing because he’s hiding something!
The more Liu Tuhu thought, the more he felt his brain was sharp. He almost couldn’t resist giving himself a round of applause, but he stopped himself, seeing the thin guys on either side of him.
Watching Liu Tuhu’s continuously changing expressions, Wu Fei knew his psychological manipulation was working. Next, he needed to keep playing the role of the peacemaker.
“I think Chun Ya might also be a good person. Don’t forget, she has an identity too. If everyone has already revealed the identities of the Apothecary and the Immortal, then only the Hunter remains. Perhaps Chun Ya…” he seemed to remember something and quickly covered his mouth, apologetically looking at Chun Ya, as if he had revealed something that might hurt her.
He lowered his head in guilt, continuing, “I suspect Chun Ya’s reason for doubting Liu Tuhu is the same as Zhao Si’s reason for doubting me. She might have heard some noise and thus started suspecting. This is a form of interference, and I think we need to judge based on logic and what everyone says, not on such potentially misleading distractions.”
His words painted him as the humble commoner: “I don’t know who the werewolves are, but I think everyone’s points are reasonable. You all are good people, and I trust each one of you. Let’s not argue.”
This manipulation, said Su Li, watching from the side, was brilliant!
“Alright, the first round of speeches is over. Please raise your hands and point to the werewolf you suspect. The one with the most votes will be eliminated.”
“Three, two, one.”
Everyone made their decisions swiftly.
Liu Tuhu took the lead and pointed at Er Tong, who, confused, pointed right back at Liu Tuhu.
Wang Bokao didn’t hesitate and chose Chun Ya. Chun Ya hesitated but eventually followed Liu Tuhu’s lead, pointing at Er Tong. After all, people with obvious identities couldn’t point randomly without raising suspicion. This made her earlier suspicion of Liu Tuhu seem like a rushed guess.
This left Wang Bokao stunned. Why was Chun Ya not following the script?
Zhao Si, confident in his judgment, pointed at Wu Fei. Wu Ming, upset seeing his master being targeted, returned the gesture and pointed back at Zhao Si. (After all, he was just a cute little kid. What could he do but forgive him?)
Now it was Wu Fei’s turn. He hesitated, deliberating, then glanced at Liu Tuhu and pointed at Er Tong.
“I announce that the player eliminated this round is Er Tong. The game continues.”
“Night falls, please close your eyes. Werewolves, open your eyes and choose a target to attack.”
Chun Ya smiled sweetly, opening her eyes, while Wu Fei glanced sideways at his little disciple. He sighed inwardly. What a good little brother he had! He had just helped me point out the “bad guy,” but the real bad guy is your master!
You just had bad luck choosing the wrong side.
The two chose to attack Wu Ming.
“Okay, werewolves, close your eyes. Apothecary, please open your eyes. Someone died last night. Do you wish to save them or poison someone else? Please note that the Apothecary has only one antidote and one bottle of deadly poison. Once used, it cannot be used again.”
Wu Ming blinked, remembering that he had used the antidote last round. Such a shame.
He glanced at his senior brother, sighing with regret. If only he had the antidote left, he’d give it to his brother.
Without the antidote, he didn’t know who had died and didn’t want to poison anyone, so he shook his head and closed his eyes, ending his turn.
Su Li sighed. What a good child. Wu Fei truly wasn’t a good person.
“Apothecary, close your eyes. Immortal, open your eyes and confirm a player’s identity.”
Wang Bokao scratched his chin, thinking hard. Now that Er Tong was out, Liu Tuhu was confirmed to be a good person, but for some unknown reason, he picked someone irrelevant. Wu Ming’s identity was clear, Chun Ya was likely the Hunter, leaving Zhao Si and Wu Fei.
If it came to momentum, Zhao Si was sharper, whereas Wu Fei was just a clueless good guy, not likely to be a werewolf.
So, Wang Bokao pointed at Zhao Si, only to receive a thumbs-up from Su Li.
Wang Bokao: ??? What the hell?
“Immortal, close your eyes. All players, open your eyes. The day has come.”
“Unfortunately, Wu Ming has been eliminated.”
“Wu Ming may leave his final words.”
Wu Ming blinked, relieved that he was the one eliminated, as long as his master survived, he was sure to win!
“Boss, I don’t have much to say.”
“Oh, and good luck, Master!”
Awww, what a good kid! Su Li almost cried. If only you knew it was your master who eliminated you… what would you do?
Wu Fei silently muttered a Buddhist chant. Good disciple, I’ll buy you candy later.
“Now, please, players speak in turn.”
Zhao Si stroked his chin. If he were a werewolf, he would have attacked the Apothecary on the second night. Once the Apothecary is gone, no one can stop the werewolves.
But how many werewolves are left?
At the same time, he still firmly believed Wu Fei was the other werewolf.
“Everyone, like last round, I still think Wu Fei is a werewolf.” Zhao Si was conflicted, should he self-reveal and take Wu Fei down with him? The remaining players would likely be easy to deal with, since most of them were good.
In the end, he made up his mind. Be bold, man!
“Everyone, if you’re stuck, you can choose to vote for me. I’m the Hunter. When I die, I can take someone with me. It’s an extreme one-for-one trade, but we can turn things around!”
Zhao Si spoke confidently, handing the hourglass to Chun Ya, ready to radiate some heroism, but then paused.
Wait…
Wu Ming is the Apothecary.
Wang Bokao is the Immortal.
I’m the Hunter.
So, what is Chun Ya’s identity?
???
