TYRPSM Chapter14

Shu An laughed. “If you miss me this much, why wouldn’t you give in that night?”

Nie Yunshen: “Heh.”

Shu An added, “I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

Nie Yunshen said nothing and hung up the phone immediately.

He slept until the sun was high in the sky before being forcibly dragged out of bed by a phone call from his mother. It was the Nie family’s young master’s fifth birthday party and he had to be there on time as his uncle.

Nie Yunshen went to the mall to buy the latest LEGO set for his nephew, arriving at the hotel just as the party began. The little boy was small but the guest list was large; besides relatives and friends from both sides of the family, the most eye-catching group was a massive crowd of kindergarteners!

The moment Nie Yunshen stepped into the ultra-luxurious hall decorated with immense childish charm, he was nearly knocked over by the sheer volume of chirping children’s voices.

Just as he was about to retreat, he bumped into someone behind him. He turned around to find his kind yet formidable mother.

If he remembered correctly, his mother had just flown back from Iceland the day before specifically for her precious grandson’s birthday party. Yet there wasn’t a trace of long-haul flight fatigue on her face at all, she looked even more radiant than he did.

If Nie Yunshen had a tail, it would be tucked between his legs in fear right now. He was all too familiar with the expression on his mother’s face—

Sure enough, his mother scolded him for arriving so late. After lecturing him for a while, she shifted the conversation by pointing out how all the peers from their circle of friends were already married with careers, so why was he…

“Single dog, have you heard the term? Aren’t you ashamed? Don’t you feel guilty? Don’t you plan to fight for a chance to start a new life?”

Nie Yunshen thought to himself: Why discriminate against single dogs? Single dogs have human rights too, okay? Besides, how could your son possibly be a single dog? If your son were willing, plenty of people would throw themselves at him. There’s even a ready-made one right now.

Of course, he could only say such things in his head. He knew his mother too well; give her a stage, and she’d perform an entire opera. Keeping quiet was the wisest course of action; she would amuse herself for a while until her attention was inevitably pulled back to her grandson. He absolutely could not confront her head-on or she would turn the grandson’s birthday banquet into her son’s execution ground. Furthermore, it was predictable that the entire family would take her side!

Just imagining that scene made Nie Yunshen feel that life was not worth living. His plea for help shot like an X-ray through the crowds of guests before landing accurately on his elder brother.

Nie Yunqi, who was busy greeting guests, caught his gaze. With an understanding smile, he gallantly came over and escorted their mother away, saying the birthday boy wanted to cut the cake and open presents with his grandmother.

Nie Yunshen gave his elder brother a grateful look. On the other side, a group of children began cheering for Grandma Nie, the sudden wave of noise nearly blasting Nie Yunshen away. He turned and bolted out the door, desperate to catch some fresh air on the terrace.

The nearly thousand-square-meter terrace, known as the “Hanging Garden,” was a signature feature of the hotel. As Nie Yunshen walked toward it, he suddenly sensed something off about the footsteps behind him. When he had passed through the corridor earlier, he noticed a business reception being held in the adjacent banquet hall with people coming and going. He hadn’t thought much of it and only assumed that they were just guests there for a meal. But now, it was clear that these footsteps were heading straight for him.

He spun around abruptly only to have a fragrant body crash directly into his arms as the person reached up to clasp the back of his head.

…Oh, they had probably intended to cover his eyes.

“Nie Ge!”

Nie Yunshen narrowed his eyes as he stared at the handsome young man in a formal suit before him. “So it’s Young Master Han.”

Han Yi completely ignored the distance in his form of address, acting as if they were anything but strangers as he naturally slung his arms around Nie Yunshen’s neck while pouting coquettishly.

“That’s not what you used to call me in bed.”

“Like you said, that was ‘used to’.” Nie Yunshen leaned his head back slightly to avoid him, grabbing his wrists to peel the man off his body. “Furthermore, Young Master Han has likely misremembered; we never went to bed together.”

“That’s true, we didn’t go all the way, we just took our pants off.” Han Yi gave a soft chuckle, unfazed by the retort; he had long since abandoned any sense of pride in front of Nie Yunshen anyway. “Nie Ge, it’s been so long. Did you miss me?”

For some reason, the question made Shu An’s lazy, gentle voice from the night before echo in Nie Yunshen’s mind: “Did you miss me?” By comparison, CEO Shu’s voice was far more pleasing to the ear.

So Director Nie shook his head quite firmly, “No.”

Young Master Han was displeased: “Liar. You clearly wanted to f*ck me at that time!”

Nie Yunshen rolled his eyes internally. That time, you were clearly the one who stripped off your pants and tried to sit on me and I turned you down, okay?

Unable to cling to his neck, Young Master Han settled for the next best thing and grabbed his arm, “Nie Ge, back then we were bound by a professional relationship and you didn’t want to cross any lines. Now that we no longer have that tie, would you like to hook up?”

Nie Yunshen looked at Han Yi’s rather beautiful face and smilingly pinched the bridge of his exquisite nose. Under Han Yi’s hopeful gaze, he softly uttered two words: “No thanks.”

With that, he pulled his arm out of the young master’s grasp and walked straight past him.

“Hey!” Han Yi called out to him from behind. “I’m just messing with you. Can’t we just have a simple dinner together?”

Nie Yunshen gave a perfunctory wave without even looking back.

“If you don’t answer, I’ll take that as a yes! I’ll book a table and let you know!”

Nie Yunshen couldn’t be bothered with this little maniac but to his surprise, he actually received a call from Han Yi the next day saying he had booked a table at ‘Yun Duan’ and telling him to head straight there that evening.

He even added very earnestly, “Nie Ge, you have to come. I just want to ask you a few questions about risk control. Please don’t turn me down.”

Nie Yunshen thought to himself: Since when did you become so studious?

“And if I don’t go?”

Han Yi pretended to sob on the other end of the line: “If you don’t come, I—I—I—I’ll jump off from ‘Yun Duan’!”

“……” The reason Yun Duan Restaurant got its name, meaning “Among the Clouds”, from being located on the top floor of the Mo Yun International Building, the tallest landmark in City Z. At ninety-nine stories tall, it allowed every guest dining there to truly experience what it felt like to be “among the clouds.”

Jumping from up there would certainly be a spectacular sight.

Of course, Nie Yunshen wasn’t actually threatened by such childish words but he still changed his clothes and went to the appointment. The main reason was that this kid was too much of a troublemaker; if he didn’t go, the brat would probably show up at the bank on Monday and cause a mountain of problems for him.

Yun Duan was a members-only restaurant and ordinary people couldn’t book a table there. Young Master Han came from a wealthy background and was a regular; he had even booked a small, elegant private booth by the window. One could enjoy the fine cuisine while simply turning their head to take in the magnificent night view of the entire city. It could not be said that he hadn’t put heart into the arrangement.

The person sitting opposite him had clearly dressed up specifically for tonight’s date. His already exquisite features were enhanced with a touch of makeup with the eyeliner flicked slightly upward, making him look charming and seductive without appearing feminine at all, completely fitting Nie Yunshen’s internal definition of a “little demon.” He wore a low-cut V-neck T-shirt paired with a well-tailored haute couture casual blazer; a deep blue vintage-patterned pocket square was folded in the most intricate style, perfectly complementing his striking features.

Han Yi was a darling of this social circle. With a good family background, deep connections, and a beauty that was bold and unbridled, he was “wild” in a way that was innocent and pure. Even Nie Yunshen had indeed been tempted by that beautiful face once upon a time.

Han Yi’s father was a financial tycoon in City Z. The financial group under the Han family was involved in almost every niche market, including funds, the stock market, venture capital, guarantees, and credit. He was the kind of formidable figure who could make the entire industry tremble just by stomping his feet.

F Bank previously had a partnership with the Han family’s “Nuoxin Guarantee.” Han Yi had squandered millions in tuition fees provided by his father while abroad, barely scraping by with a degree from a third-rate university before returning home to be placed in a position at Nuoxin. His father’s original words were, “I’ll be satisfied as long as you show up to work honestly and don’t go out causing trouble.” So as one might imagine, Han Yi was merely a figurehead at the company who didn’t actually manage anything, though everyone from top to bottom knew he was the big boss’s pampered precious son and gave the young master plenty of respect and face.

Nie Yunshen had met this young master during the process of negotiating a partnership with Nuoxin.

The first time they met, Nie Yunshen didn’t think there was anything particularly special about this young master aside from being a bit better looking than most. At the time, Han Yi was attending the negotiation meeting as the assistant to Nuoxin’s CEO, but ten minutes later, the image of this “little assistant” slumped over the negotiation table snoring with a trail of drool left an indelible impression on Director Nie.

Fortunately, the CEO was reliable; otherwise, the partnership might never have been settled.

Their second meeting happened at a fairly well-known gay bar downtown; Nie Yunshen had been dragged there by a friend and never expected to run into Han Yi.

At the time, Han Yi was wearing a black sheer mesh shirt while twisting on stage like an alluring mermaid.

Beneath the spotlight, he stood at the center of attention while the crowd below writhed like demons. Everyone was set ablaze by Han Yi’s supple physique and dance moves with whistles rose and fell amidst the deafening heavy metal music and the entire venue was bursting with hormones.

As the spotlight flashed, Han Yi spotted him from the stage. Nie Yunshen curled his lips into a smile and raised his glass in a small gesture of greeting.

Later, as they grew closer, Han Yi even told him that when he saw Nie Yunshen’s smile that night, his heart instantly started racing like a startled deer.

If Han Yi had been just an ordinary assistant, or perhaps a dancer working part-time at a bar, Nie Yunshen likely would have lured the little demon to bed and devoured him long ago. Unfortunately, he was Han Yuechuan’s son, the “Crown Prince” of Nuoxin, and they were business partners.

The relationship between a bank and a guarantee company is inherently delicate, involving tripartite interests and massive amounts of capital. This was especially true for a large conglomerate like Nuoxin and a multinational foreign firm like F Bank; if a problem arose in their partnership, it could potentially disrupt the ecological balance of the entire financial circle. Nie Yunshen had no choice but to be cautious.

To be blunt, his feelings for Young Master Han weren’t strong enough to make him compromise his principles.

Clearly, Han Yi didn’t see it that way—or rather, the young master hadn’t even considered it that far at all. Throughout their subsequent cooperation, he made no effort to hide his affection for Nie Yunshen while willingly playing the role of an errand boy. He ran to F Bank every few days; sometimes he actually brought documents, but other than that, he was purely there for Nie Yunshen. Once he reached the office, he would lounge on the sofa and refuse to leave; anyone could see what he was after.

Nie Yunshen had told him very clearly, “Little guy, don’t waste your energy. There’s no chance for us, okay?”

Young Master Han was furious and the fallout was serious. In a moment of sheer recklessness, he made a mistake that could never be undone.

The author has something to say:

A reader asked why Director Nie wouldn’t be with Han Yi due to their professional partnership but doesn’t seem to have the same issue with CEO Shu.

I should clarify that the relationship between CEO Shu and Director Nie certainly has its own set of complications. However, compared to a simple client relationship, a partnership with a third-party guarantee company is much more complex and has a broader impact (since a guarantee company doesn’t just provide backing for a single client). This is why he rejected Young Master Han without hesitation back then.

Furthermore, on an emotional level, Young Master Han and CEO Shu are not the same type of person. CEO Shu feels more composed and secure, whereas Young Master Han is more prone to playfulness. CEO Shu is the type to help Director Nie solve his troubles, while Young Master Han is the type to cause them. Additionally, CEO Shu and Nie Nie were classmates ten years ago. The bond between classmates (even if they were rivals) is relatively pure; they didn’t start out as a risk control officer and a client but simply as old classmates. Therefore, Nie Nie’s subconscious attitude toward these two is bound to be different.

As for how they will balance the relationship between risk control and a client once they are actually together, I will address that later in the story, so don’t worry.
