SRTT Chapter 36.1

Looking down from the 18th floor, people seemed much smaller.

In just one night, the water that had flooded to the sixth floor yesterday had frozen into ice. The entire city was covered with a thick layer of ice.

Ruan Ning lifted the quilt and curtains. The first thing she saw was the endless ice field.

Soon, she saw many people on the ice, or perhaps it could not be called people. They were lying on the ice surface, their clothes were thin, and their limbs were stiff. They could not assume a posture for a peaceful death.

Their relatives carried the bodies outside, either kneeling or sitting beside them. They could no longer move.

If someone could record this scene, it would probably be a purgatory scene with corpses everywhere.

Ruan Ning lowered her eyes and went back to the living room, where she found her parents sitting in front of the fireplace in silence.

Ruan Ning thought for a while, moved the pot away, put a kettle on to boil water, and threw a few sweet potatoes into the small oven next to it.

Ruan Ning did not answer directly: “You can run upstairs in a rainstorm, but there is nowhere to escape in extreme cold.”

Ruan Ning comforted him: “At least, we are alive now.”

Ruan Cifeng said weakly: “Of course, we will find a way. Don’t you still have the golden finger? I will listen to you two.”

Ruan Ning immediately said, “Then, you have to eat your fill first. Only when you are full will you have the strength to work.”

Ruan Cifeng said: “Yes, yes, we can’t just sit there and wait for death. We have to fill our stomachs and work hard to survive.”

Zhou Sulan still had no appetite.

At this moment, there was a sudden knock on their door.

Ruan Ning knew that it was the Cheng siblings next door. She gave Zhou Sulan a hug, stood up, and walked to the door.

Now her house had three doors, with bedding hung at the back as door curtains.

Afraid that cold air would rush into the house, Ruan Ning walked into the corridor after opening the door and closed the door.

The people who came were Cheng Jili and Cheng Jikuan. Cheng Jili was wearing thick clothes and looked depressed.

“Ning Ning, my brother and I want to go out and take a look. Do you want to go out?”

Ruan Ning frowned and asked, “Why are you going out now? It’s too cold outside. You should wait for two days to get used to it.”

Cheng Jikuan sighed and said, “I’m afraid that if we wait for another two days, everything that can be ignited will be looted.”

Ruan Ning knew that Cheng Jikuan had stored a lot of firewood, which could at least fill three rooms, but this was far from enough during the extreme cold period.

But, they did not have a stove at home.

“Fortunately, they didn’t burn all the clothes like others did. Sister Lingxia is now wearing Dr. Zhou’s clothes, which are the clothes that the two children didn’t wear. She wrapped them tightly in a quilt.”
