In this era, the people’s livelihood is the top priority, while the restoration and protection of cultural relics are not given enough attention. Shuchun Garden was like a wasteland at this time, overgrown with weeds. Few of the original buildings remained, leaving only the mountain shape and water system. It was not even as spacious as the park outside.
Looking around, apart from the Shuchun Garden sign-in location outside, there were no other sign-in locations, which was why she didn’t go in the first time they strolled around the campus.
“Hey, classmate, you can’t go looking for a date in a deserted garden! It’s been abandoned for a long time, and there are plenty of snakes, insects, and rodents in there. Don’t get bitten!”
Just as they reached the outside of Shuchun Garden, an elderly gentleman wearing a Zhongshan suit, wearing round-framed glasses, and walking with his hands behind his back, reading a book, saw them and gave them a warning.
“Okay, we’re not going in. We’ll just walk around and have a stroll!” Yi Qingqing lied through her teeth.
She pulled Yun Guyuan around a corner, and when she could no longer see the old man, she pulled Yun Guyuan and ran into the garden. They ran for a long time until they could no longer see the road outside before they stopped.
Yun Guyuan didn’t ask anything, but Yi Qingqing still explained to him: “I looked it up at the library before. Shuchun Garden used to be Heshen’s villa, formerly called ‘Shihu Garden’. I was curious, so I came to take a look.”
“Wait, don’t move!” Yun Guyuan suddenly said.
“You’ve got thorns stuck to your head!”
Yi Qingqing was stunned. She touched her head and found several sharp spots. Had she stirred up a thorn ball’s lair?
Yi Qingqing, covered in several withered thorns, was filled with shame and indignation.
She was sorry to Master Li. Once she left Daqing Mountain, she had lost a hunter’s alertness, getting thorns on her head just from wandering into a deserted garden, and right in front of Yun Guyuan.
“Don’t move, I’ll take it off for you.”
Yun Guyuan moved closer to her, tried it for a moment, and said, “I need to loosen your hair tie first, and then I’ll tie it back up for you later.”
Yi Qingqing nodded.
The distance was a bit too close. The incense smell emanating from Yun Guyuan made her dizzy. She secretly inhaled, then inhaled again.
As a Level 3 incense-making novice, she had smelled hundreds, if not thousands, of incense in the skill tutorial mode, but none of them were as attractive as this one.
At first smell, it smelled like top-grade incense for worshipping gods, but upon closer inspection, it was rather refreshing and unique, with a hint of familiarity. However, she was quite certain that apart from Yun Guyuan, she did not have an exact memory of the exact same scent.
Yun Guyuan’s movements were very gentle. The spiky ball was stuck tightly, but when he took it off, Yi Qingqing didn’t feel any pain from having her hair pulled.
After removing the thorns, he moved behind her and tied her hair back up.
Yi Qingqing touched her head and felt that her hair was tied up quite neatly!
She hadn’t expected Ah Yuan’s hair-tying skills to be so proficient, quick, and good. She had only been thinking about the scent for a moment, and he was already done.
After that, Yi Qingqing was much more careful, making sure the thorns didn’t stick to her again.
The two of them ventured deeper into Shuchun Garden and soon spotted the sign-in location that was faintly visible in the bushes.
She pulled Yun Guyuan over and selected to sign in.
[You signed in at Shihu Garden and unlocked a portable space skin card (Shihu Garden exclusive).]
Upon seeing the word ‘unlock’, Yi Qingqing’s good mood vanished instantly.
It was just unlocking one skin card!
All four sign-in points seemed to have gone down the drain!
She painstakingly brought Ah Yuan to this desolate garden, only to lose everything in the process. It’s heartbreaking!

Yuanmingyuan Garden (Part 2)
The construction of Yuanmingyuan began in the late Kangxi era and during the Yongzheng reign. In the second year of the Yongzheng reign (1724), the expansion project of Yuanmingyuan officially commenced. After Emperor Qianlong ascended the throne, he adjusted the garden’s landscapes and added architectural complexes within Yuanmingyuan.
In 1860, Anglo-French invaders set fire to Yuanmingyuan, burning down Yuanmingyuan and nearby gardens, including Qingyi Garden, Jingming Garden, Jingyi Garden, Changchun Garden (of the Qing Dynasty), as well as Haidian Town.
In the 26th year of the Guangxu reign (1900), the Eight-Nation Alliance occupied Beijing, and the buildings, as well as ancient and famous trees in Yuanmingyuan, were completely destroyed. After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the relics of Yuanmingyuan were plundered over a long period by bureaucrats, warlords, and unscrupulous merchants.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese government began protection and restoration work on Yuanmingyuan.
