RAD Chapter 84

“Hey, have you heard?” A handsome young man said to his friend, leaning in with a smile.

“Heard what?” His friend looked at him with doubts. “Has anything happened recently?”

“Ah, you bookworm, you’re so focused on your books that you don’t even pay attention to the big events happening around you.” The young man tapped his friend’s head. “It’s about the nationwide talent search everyone has been talking about!”

“Talent search? What’s that?” His friend’s eyes lit up with curiosity at the unfamiliar term.

The young man looked at him smugly. “Hey, you don’t know, right? I’ll tell you. This so-called talent search is an open competition where anyone can participate, no restrictions.”

“So what are they selecting for in this talent search?” His friend asked further.

An excited expression appeared on the young man’s face. “Actors!”

“Actors.” His friend suddenly lost interest. He’d better just stick to reading books. He had no interest in becoming an actor anyway.

The young man tugged at his sleeve and dropped an enticing piece of information. “You know, the investor for this film is a real estate company. And they said they will offer housing discounts for the selected actors, proportional to the importance of their roles. I heard that if you get a lead role, they’ll even give you a free house! You know, there are supposed to be about six leading roles in this drama!”

“Huh? Really?” His friend’s eyes immediately lit up after hearing this. Although he wasn’t interested in acting, the thing of getting a free house was definitely worth trying for. He turned to the young man with determination. “Alright, let’s go sign up for this talent search together!”

“Okay, let’s go!” The young man clenched his fist. “Good luck!”

They didn’t notice that a young man standing not far away from them had his eyes brightened and his fists clenched tightly after hearing the news.

Conversations like this were suddenly happening all over the country, especially among the young workers in B City who were closely following the latest developments.

In a spacious and bright office, Ye Lan lazily reclined on the sofa, looking at the latest updates on the talent search brought to him by his subordinates.

“Hey, Ye Lan, not bad.” He Ben leaned casually against the wall, holding a glass of red wine in his hand. “I didn’t know you had such a clever mind to create this talent search. Those guys at TV station are practically worshiping you now like seeing the God of Wealth. Not only is this event completely free, but you’ve also managed to get them to pre-promote the houses we’re building, as well as the film you’ve invested in. It’s really killing three birds with one stone!”

“But speaking of which, I’ve also skimmed through the script for your film. So who do you plan to have direct it?” He Ben shook the glass of red wine in his hand, took a sip carefully, and then continued to ask: “To tell the truth, I have a feeling it will be a sure classic film once shot well.”

Ye Lan put down the file in his hand, massaged his temples to relax a bit, then said gently, “Naturally, I’ll have my Xiao Xiao direct it.”

“Huh?” He Ben couldn’t help but furrow his brows a bit. “Ye Lan, I know Luo Xiao is studying to be a director, but he’s still just a senior in college without any practical experience. Isn’t it a bit inappropriate to have him direct this film?”

“Inappropriate?” Ye Lan raised an eyebrow and looked at him with a teasing smile on his face. “But I feel that no one would be better able to capture the essence of this film than Xiao Xiao. After all, he is the screenwriter.”

It seemed He Ben had just heard some earth-shattering news. He widened his eyes in surprise and couldn’t help help but confirm, “Wait, did you just say, Luo Xiao is the screenwriter for this film? Did I hear it wrong?”

“I think you should get your ears checked. It’s not good to have poor hearing.” Ye Lan shrugged and gave a sincere suggestion, but there was an obvious mocking look in his eyes.

Okay, so he hadn’t heard it wrong. He Ben looked at Ye Lan with a complicated expression, then seemed to realize something and asked, “Don’t tell me, this talent search was also Luo Xiao’s idea?”

Ye Lan nodded, confirming his guess, then looked at him smugly. “Of course it’s him! My Xiao Xiao is the one bringing good luck to his husband!”

What to do? His hands were really itchy! He Ben turned his head away. He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from punching him right then. Seriously, the smug look on Ye Lan’s face was so cheap!

However, upon careful consideration, Luo Xiao is the wife of this young man, so he is his sister-in-law. As the saying goes, “the fat water does not flow out of one’s own field”, so he should still have time to butter him up. By the way, why do I feel like I’ve forgotten something? Forget, it doesn’t matter. I’ll go establish a good relationship with him tomorrow.

And on a certain day in the future, He Ben will be deeply grateful that he went to establish a good relationship now, otherwise the wife he has just got would have run away! There’s no help for it, his wife’s relationship with Luo Xiao is even better than with him!

“Right, have you settled the matters with the production crew? Do you need my help?” He Ben asked as he looked at him.

“Oh? Do you have someone to recommend?” Ye Lan chimed in, he didn’t know his cousin knew people in this field.

“Yeah, do you remember my good friend Xiang Yang?” He Ben downed the rest of the red wine, walked over and placed the glass on the coffee table. “His uncle works at the film studio and knows a lot of the production team. He also has his own crew, I can have him come over to try it out?”

Ye Lan nodded, “Okay, arrange a time for us to meet and discuss it. If it’s suitable, that would be great.”

“Alright, no problem, leave it to me.” He Ben patted his chest confidently. As soon as he thought about how their house would sell well once the movie is a success, he felt so motivated!

After getting off work, Ye Lan told Luo Xiao about this. Luo Xiao had been worried about the production team issue, thinking they would have to find these staff members one by one, but it was resolved so quickly.

Since this is no longer a problem, he can now fully immerse himself in the casting process. After all, this is his first work, not only for himself and the big sales of Ye Lan’s s houses, but also out of respect for the original author. No matter what, he will put in his utmost effort to make it a great production.

As time passed day by day, the casting has entered the final stage. For this casting, he specifically went back to school to seek help from Old Wei. With the assistance of the school teachers, each role has been narrowed down to less than ten people.

Early in the morning, Luo Xiao got dressed and prepared to go out, because today is the day to finalize the cast. Countless viewers are waiting in front of their TVs, just to know the final result.

Since the TV series involves quite a number of characters, the less important roles have already been cast, and today they will select the main six leading roles, three men and three women.

It was the top contestants who had gone through a rigorous selection process. Luo Xiao made a difficult choice based on their temporary performances. Soon, three of the six main actors were confirmed, and the three male leads were also gradually determined. They were just waiting for the final confirmation of the first male lead. All the viewers watching the live TV broadcast held their breath in anticipation.

When the final three candidates came out, Luo Xiao looked at one of them and couldn’t help but widen his eyes: How did this guy end up here?

Because he had the assistance of school teachers, he directly came to the finals of the competition to confirm the final candidate. He was not present on-site for the previous auditions. If he had seen this guy for the first time, he would absolutely not have let him appear here!

The first male lead in the TV drama “Passion and Confusion” was supposed to be a young man with an optimistic and cheerful personality, who was self-reliant and persevered in his struggles. As an outsider in the big B City, he experienced various life and work challenges. However, the setbacks did not defeat him, but rather tempered him. It allowed him to finally take root in this city through his own efforts, with the accompaniment of friendship, and also find love.

So for this character setting, Luo Xiao hoped that the actor playing this role would have a sunny and healthy appearance, a well-proportioned physique, and an optimistic and cheerful personality.

But why did Yu Jia, a pale-faced and sickly-looking person, appear here? Which of his appearance, physique, or personality matched the character?

“Teacher, who is this young man in the middle?” Luo Xiao quietly asked Old Wei next to him. Ever since reading Luo Xiao’s script, Old Wei had been very invested in this matter and basically followed it from the first auditions all the way to this point.

He looked up and immediately understood, “This person was my choice. Although I also feel his external conditions are not very good in various aspects. But I’ve seen this little guy’s acting, and it’s really quite good. So I let him stay until the end.”

Luo Xiao nodded and didn’t anything outwardly, but inwardly he was grinding his teeth in hatred: This ungrateful wolf’s acting, he had to admit, was indeed good! If it wasn’t good, how could he have deceived him for so many years without being discovered in the previous life? If it wasn’t good, how could he have ended up dying in the wild!

However, thinking about it, this ungrateful wolf had never participated in any talent shows in the previous life. How come he was participating now? Did something he didn’t know about happen? It seems that he needs to have someone investigate this thoroughly. Anyway, he considered this wolf to not be a good person, so if Yu Jia’s life is going well, he doesn’t mind letting him live a bitter life. And if his life is difficult and uncomfortable, then he’s even more inclined to add insult to his injury! The debt of taking a life owed from the previous life, he will definitely repay it back twofold in this life!
