Since they couldn’t rely on Yan Bai’s ability, the four of them had no choice but to make their way to the gym on foot. Along the way, quite a few low-level vampires jumped out at them, but Chu Xiao and Wen Xian dispatched them almost instantly.
Holding the little black cat in her arms, Fengguang couldn’t help feeling like the four of them were clearing a dungeon in a game—Chu Xiao and Wen Xian were the heavy damage dealers, Yan Bai was a somewhat useful support, and she herself… was just someone tagging along while holding a cat.
What could she do? She felt pretty hopeless about it.
The plot had completely gone off track, and she wasn’t the female lead. So far, she hadn’t shown any signs of unlocking some overpowered ability either. Fengguang felt miserable.
Even though Wen Xian and Chu Xiao were dragging along two liabilities, their luck wasn’t bad. They didn’t run into any major “boss” enemies on the way and reached the gym safely.
The guards at the entrance let the four of them in. The gymnasium was already packed. To be precise… there were humans and vampires, along with many injured people.
Fengguang searched everywhere but couldn’t find Ming’an. Anxiety rising in her chest, she randomly grabbed a hunter who was on guard against possible sneak attacks from low-level vampires and asked, “Do you know where our principal went?”
Seeing that it was a vampire speaking to him, and instinctively viewing her as an enemy, the man replied coldly, “Mr. Ming’an went to look for Yan Luo with the others.”
Fengguang didn’t have the energy to care about his rude attitude. The moment she heard that Ming’an had gone after Yan Luo, unease filled her heart. Carrying the little black cat, she walked to a corner and murmured, “Xiao Hei, do you think… I should go look for your dad?”
The little black cat meowed and placed a paw on her stomach.
Her eyebrow twitched. She moved its paw away. “Xiao Hei, be serious. Your dad is doing something really dangerous right now.”
Xiao Hei jumped onto her shoulder and licked her cheek.
Fengguang’s emotions settled somewhat. Dejected, she said, “Do you think I’d just hold him back if I went… After all, I don’t know how to do anything.”
“Meow~” The little black cat rubbed its head against her face, comforting its discouraged owner.
“If only… if only I hadn’t eaten so much candy back then…” Fengguang crouched on the floor, full of regret. “If I hadn’t pulled out my fangs… I could’ve awakened my ability during my first hunt…”
Even though she had a feeling that, even if she did awaken an ability, it would probably be something pretty useless, it would still be better than nothing.
Wen Xian walked over and crouched beside her. “Don’t worry too much. Trust Teacher. He’ll be fine.”
“Mm…” she responded weakly. She wasn’t sure whether she was just hungry or catching a chill again, but she clutched her aching stomach, her face turning pale.
Noticing something was wrong, Wen Xian quickly asked, “What’s wrong? Are you hurt somewhere?”
He had promised his teacher he would protect Fengguang. If something happened to her, he wouldn’t know how to explain it.
Fengguang shook her head, biting her lip. “I just… my stomach hurts a little.”
“Meow~” Xiao Hei jumped down to the floor and rubbed against her legs.
Fengguang forced a smile as she patted its head. “Don’t worry.”
Then every vampire in the gymnasium turned to look at her.
Fengguang’s body went rigid, because it wasn’t just them—she could smell it too. The scent of blood was coming from her.
Seeing the trail of blood winding down her leg, her head swam even more.
