Wen Xian looked at Fengguang with a speechless expression. His eyes clearly said, Don’t think I don’t know you’re a vampire who hasn’t even awakened her abilities yet.
Fengguang fell silent too. Fine. So much for trying to act cool.
Suddenly, Yan Luo’s expression turned cold. She stared at Fengguang, pointed at Wen Xian, and asked in an icy voice, “What did you just call him?”
Fengguang sensed something was wrong. “What’s with you?”
“Wen Xian…” Yan Luo’s voice grew colder as she looked at the boy in the white school uniform. “Your name is Wen Xian!?”
Wen Xian paused for a second, then nodded. “That’s right. My name is Wen Xian.”
“It was you… Six hundred years ago, it was you who captured me!”
Six hundred years ago, Yan Luo had been an overwhelmingly powerful figure. Even when the Hunter Association and the Council of Elders had joined forces to besiege her, she had fought her way out without losing ground. But then, a vampire hunter named Wen Xian had suddenly appeared. She could no longer remember his face, but she still remembered his name.
Yan Luo, who had once been invincible, had always regarded her capture as the greatest humiliation of her life. If Wen Xian hadn’t captured her, she could have continued hunting purebloods and awakened Osiris. Perhaps by now, she would already be standing at the top of the new world at Osiris’s side.
Seeing Yan Luo suddenly turn vicious, Fengguang hurriedly said, “You’ve got it wrong! Wen Xian wasn’t even born six hundred years ago. How could he have captured you?”
“Wen Xian… Today, I’ll kill you!” Yan Luo couldn’t hear a word Fengguang was saying. Blood suddenly flowed from her wrist, transforming into a red whip that lashed toward Wen Xian.
She had wanted to use her power to draw all the blood out of Wen Xian’s body at once, but she wasn’t using her original body, so her abilities were limited. Otherwise, when faced with the joint arrival of the Council of Elders and the Hunter Association, she would have confronted them head-on instead of summoning a swarm of low-level vampires. Even so, a vampire once known as the strongest female vampire was not to be underestimated.
Wen Xian’s long sword collided with the whip. The force behind it was so immense that he was knocked back a step. He turned to Fengguang and said, “Stay behind me and be careful.”
“You still have the energy to worry about someone else? Worry about yourself first!” When her first strike failed, Yan Luo swung the whip again. This time it was even faster and heavier than before. Wen Xian, a seventeen-year-old vampire hunter, was up against a vampire more than six hundred years old—it was no easy fight.
Wen Xian worried inwardly. It wouldn’t matter if he got hurt, but he had promised his teacher that Fengguang wouldn’t be harmed.
Just then, a hand landed on Wen Xian’s shoulder, and another on Fengguang’s. There was only a blur of motion, and they disappeared.
Yan Luo smiled, snapping her whip toward the window. Forced into action, Yan Bai had no choice but to pull the two of them back into the room.
“Grandmother, please stop…” Yan Bai pleaded earnestly.
“We’ve come this far. How could I possibly stop now?” Yan Luo said coldly. “Yan Bai, move aside! Or I’ll kill you too!”
Yan Bai trembled in fear, but he stood his ground. “I’m a member of the Yan family too. I can’t just watch you keep making the same mistake!”
Fengguang looked at Yan Bai in shock, thinking that this timid young man actually had a backbone after all.
