Feng Guang touched her face and realized she was crying. Afraid of being seen by others and feeling embarrassed, she sniffed and said in a quieter voice, “It’s all your fault that I’m crying.”
“Okay, okay, it’s my fault,” An Tong agreed.
She continued her complaint, not caring whether it was his fault. “If you hadn’t deliberately said those things to upset me, I wouldn’t have forced myself not to talk to you or pay attention to you. Then I definitely wouldn’t be crying like this. And look at you, treated like a god, living comfortably.”
An Tong smiled good-naturedly. “I’m suffering a lot too.”
“I don’t believe it. If I weren’t bothering you, you’d be secretly enjoying yourself at home.”
“I’ve never felt that you were a bother.”
“Don’t think I can’t see through you. In the past, even though you smiled at me, you smiled at everyone the same way. It felt like… like I was no different from any random person.”
He teased her, “So today is my trial, huh?”
“Be serious.” Feng Guang was displeased and pinched his waist, appreciating the feel of it. Reluctantly, she withdrew her hand. “Just admit I’m right. My intuition is usually spot on, so don’t think you can fool me.”
“Fine, your intuition is spot on.” An Tong leaned in closer, lowering his voice. “Feng Guang, I can’t promise that after everything that’s happened, I’ll be able to open up to anyone. I’m sorry, but that’s the truth. Even if you think it’s my fault, I can admit that.”
He only hoped she would stop playing this silent treatment game. If she ignored him, how was that any different from the way things used to be? Especially after she had stirred feelings in him; he no longer wanted to return to that stagnant existence.
Feng Guang didn’t understand the darkness hidden in his deep gaze. Subconsciously, she held his hand tightly, stubbornly wanting an answer. “So am I… am I the same as those other people in your eyes?”
“No.” An Tong’s eyelids drooped slightly. “They are who they are, and you are Feng Guang, unique and irreplaceable.”
Her lips curled up a bit, and she cautiously asked, “Then what about me and Fang Yaya? Who’s more important?”
An Tong chuckled. “Why are you asking that?”
She pouted. “Oh, come on, just answer me.”
“Of course, you’re more important. No one is more important than you.”
Fang Yaya—An Tong couldn’t deny he was once drawn to her sunny smile, and Mu Tianze’s special treatment of her had made him pay more attention. Fang Yaya was a good girl, but the girl in front of him was a one-of-a-kind treasure. He wouldn’t allow anyone else to take her away.
Suddenly, An Tong kissed Feng Guang on the forehead. Since they were at the back of the bus, he felt it was safe to be a bit bolder.
Though her face turned red, Feng Guang finally smiled happily, the frustration she had held for a day and a night dissipating. She lifted her head, her eyes sparkling as if they reflected the stars, all illuminated by his presence.
To be cherished wholeheartedly by someone brought back a long-forgotten feeling to An Tong’s heart. It took him a long time to remember that this feeling of fulfillment was a happiness he hadn’t experienced in a while.
Feng Guang buried her head in his chest. “An Tong, your heartbeat is so fast.”
“Yeah, it’s all because of you,” he replied casually, his hand gently stroking her back. He was getting more accustomed to these tender gestures.
Feng Guang nuzzled against his chest. “I like the sound of your heartbeat.”
“I like it too,” An Tong said softly. His affection was different from hers. He smiled and kissed the top of her head.
