Fengguang picked up the bottle. Underneath it was a small note with only four words written on it: “This is a midnight snack.”
She didn’t even have to guess who had written it.
Holding the milk bottle in her arms, she couldn’t bear to drink it right away. A warm feeling spread through her chest. She carefully put the bottle back into her locker like it was something precious, changed into her gym clothes, then picked up the bottle again and headed outside. On the field, all the students were already gathered.
The field was brightly lit, and vampires naturally had excellent night vision anyway, so having P.E. class at night wasn’t a problem.
Yan Bai looked enviously at the bottle in Fengguang’s hands and said in frustration, “Why didn’t I think of that idea?”
The cafeteria only opened at midnight, and although Yan Bai looked thin, he got hungry easily. He told Fengguang, “Next time I’m bringing a bottle to the cafeteria so I can take some out as a snack.”
Fengguang opened the bottle, slipped in the straw, and took a sip. It was the same familiar taste. She closed her eyes and enjoyed it for a moment. “No matter how good the blood from the cafeteria tastes, it could never be as good as mine.”
Ming’an’s blood wasn’t like Zeng Xue’s. Even though everyone could smell the scent of blood, it didn’t make anyone lose control. In fact, Fengguang seemed to be the only one who found this bottle of blood sweet and delicious.
As Situ You walked past, he casually tossed out a remark, “Eat that much—you’re not worried about gaining weight?”
Fengguang raised an eyebrow.
“Fengguang…” Zeng Xue walked over hesitantly. Of course, she knew what Fengguang was holding wasn’t watermelon juice, but the way Fengguang drank it really did look like she was sipping a beverage. Zeng Xue still found it hard to accept, yet she had come to see Fengguang as a friend—and Fengguang had never harmed her. After taking a deep breath, she gathered her courage and said, “That day I saw you get taken away by a wolf, and then you were missing for so long… I was really worried about you.”
Fengguang shook her head. “Don’t worry. I’m fine.”
She was too embarrassed to admit that her so-called disappearance was really just her moving into Ming’an’s place and not coming out for several days.
“I’m glad you’re okay,” Zeng Xue said with a smile. “Fengguang… actually, Situ You isn’t a bad person. After you were taken by the werewolf that day, he and the others searched for you for a long time. Later, I ran out of strength, and he only stopped because he had to bring me back first.”
Fengguang hadn’t expected Zeng Xue to speak up for Situ You, and she looked a little surprised. “I know he’s not a bad person—his personality just stinks.”
“I heard…” Zeng Xue’s voice carried a hint of nervousness. “Fengguang, are you and Situ You engaged?”
Fengguang nodded openly. “That’s right.”
“I see… I was just asking. Fengguang, I should go now.”
Zeng Xue turned as if to make a hasty escape, but Fengguang called after her, “Let me finish. Yes, we’re engaged, but it’s only because of our family status. He doesn’t like me, and I don’t like him either. Did you think he was so anxious to find me that day because he liked me?”
“No…”
“Don’t say one thing while meaning another,” Fengguang said with a shrug. “Don’t worry—he wasn’t looking for me because he liked me. It was because I’m the young lady of the Xia family. If something had happened to me in front of him, it would’ve caused conflict between our families. Among vampires, family ties matter even more than they do among humans. If my family declared them enemies, it could’ve sparked a war between our clans—and a lot of people would have died. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
