The white roses were planted, but it would take some time for them to bloom. During this waiting period, Feng Guang and the housekeeper learned to cook. Every time she finished a dish in the kitchen, she would run next door to An Tong’s house, much to the displeasure of Xia Zhao, who would scold her, claiming that a girl of her age shouldn’t be hanging around.
Feng Guang paid no attention to Xia Zhao. An Tong’s housekeeper had stopped coming, and she disliked the way he would just order takeout whenever he felt like eating and skip meals when he didn’t. It wasn’t good for his health.
Although An Tong had become physically weak over the years due to taking a lot of medication, stopping the medication meant that the effects would gradually fade over time. There might be some lingering side effects, but with proper herbal treatments, those could be minimized. To be honest, after exploring several ancient worlds, she had come to trust traditional Chinese medicine more.
Propping her chin on her hand, Feng Guang watched as An Tong brought the last spoonful of soup to his lips. She smiled in satisfaction. “How’s the chicken soup today? I added a few more herbs than before. Do you like it?”
“It’s great, really delicious.” He wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, his movements elegant and noble; everything he did was pleasing to the eye.
Feng Guang tilted her head, thinking An Tong looked as if he had a filter, with blooming flowers in the background. She stared at him, lost in thought for several seconds.
An Tong had long since grown accustomed to her occasional dazed looks. He chuckled and asked, “Is it okay that you only had half a day of classes today?”
“Of course! Anyway, my parents won’t let me starve. They’ll take care of me.” She said it with such a lack of ambition that if anyone else heard, they might call her a spoiled rich kid with no goals, just waiting to live off her family’s wealth.
But in front of her was An Tong, who always maintained a gentle smile, exuding kindness. Apart from his poor health, he seemed utterly perfect.
“I can take care of you too.”
Feng Guang couldn’t contain her happiness but tried to act modest. “I’m hard to support, you know? It costs a lot to take care of me.”
“It’s fine. You can try to see if you can make me go broke.” He rarely joked, but he had already taken over the family business, so he didn’t need to go to the office. With just a phone call, he could keep the company running smoothly. While he had lost the right to play outdoors, he had studied a lot about business to help alleviate An Wan’s burdens.
For him, managing a company was just a small matter.
However, Feng Guang didn’t know this. “I don’t want to make you go broke! I’ve already decided to change my extravagant habits. We can save money together and live well.”
“Saving money to raise a child?”
Feng Guang was taken aback by his response, her mind momentarily blank. After a long pause, she blushed and exclaimed, “What are you talking about? I’m still a young lady, having a child is…”
She couldn’t finish her sentence, feeling embarrassed. After all, at her age, such matters were still too premature.
After admiring her shy expression for a moment, An Tong finally averted his gaze, a light laugh escaping his lips. “Don’t make such a cute face; otherwise, I might think you’ve thought about this.”
“You… I…” She stammered. Could she admit that she had thought about it?
