Ming An, still confused, sat down beside her.
“Are you hungry again?”
“I’m not just hungry… I’m exhausted and sleepy too.” She looked so wronged that tears suddenly fell without warning. “I suddenly feel like I’m so stupid. I came to this school to look for my dream guy and fall in love—so how did I end up never having a single comfortable day? I stress myself out just trying to get food, and even then, I still can’t eat my fill. And now I’m stuck cleaning floors here… What did I even come here for?”
She sobbed as she complained, “Why is it that just because I’m a vampire, I’m not allowed to eat in the human cafeteria? I don’t steal or rob anyone, but I still get punished just for walking around in broad daylight. This place is awful… I want to go home!”
She cried so pitifully that just the sound of it was enough to make anyone’s heart ache. For some reason, though, Ming An wanted to laugh—but he held it in. As a teacher, he knew better than to provoke her at a time like this.
He raised a hand and placed it on top of her head, putting on a show of comforting her.
“Humans and the blood clan live in two different worlds. Our lifestyles are naturally different. Once you get used to it, you won’t think it’s such a big deal.”
“No… I can’t get used to it. Not at all.”
“Trust me. Once you taste blood for the first time, you’ll become a true member of the blood clan.”
That so-called “first time” didn’t mean drinking blood from a blood bag—it meant hunting on her own and tasting blood from a living prey. That prey could be an animal… or a human.
In fact, from the moment he first saw her, he had known she had never tasted fresh blood. Her aura was far too clean—nothing like that of a vampire.
Fengguang choked back tears.
“But I’ll never be a real blood clan member…”
Ming An asked gently, “Why do you say that?”
“Because… because…” She burst into loud sobs. “When I was little, I ate too much candy and got cavities—my fangs were all pulled out!”
“Pfft!” Ming An immediately turned his head away.
Fengguang looked at him through blurry, tear-filled eyes.
“You’re laughing at me…”
“No, I’m not…” He coughed several times before turning back. His eyes were filled with sympathy and paternal kindness, not a trace of amusement—as if to prove he truly wasn’t laughing at her.
After sniffing for a while, Fengguang finally spoke again, brokenly.
“My mom said… said my teeth would grow back. But it’s been more than ten years, and my fangs still haven’t grown back… They never will…”
Because of her fangs, she never knew whether she should feel relieved or sad. She would never become the kind of monster she feared—biting into someone’s neck and happily drinking their blood. But at the same time, without fangs, she wasn’t a true member of the blood clan. No matter how noble the blood running through her veins was, she would never truly belong.
Seeing how heartbroken she was, Ming An asked a very meaningful question.
“Why did you eat so much candy when you were little?”
“I didn’t want to… I just couldn’t control myself…” she said angrily. “Who knew those fangs were so fragile? They turned into cavities so easily… All my other teeth were perfectly fine!”
“Yes, this isn’t your fault,” Ming An agreed smoothly. “It’s entirely because those fangs were too fragile.”
“No… it is my fault.” She started sobbing again. “If only I hadn’t eaten so much candy…”
Ming An: “……”
Are kids these days really this hard to deal with?
