Fengguang grew even more puzzled. “Parents raise their children and teach them. Isn’t it only natural for children to like their parents?”
“For most people, yes,” Yisu replied. “But for Lord Song, he is himself, and his parents are his parents. They are three separate individuals. In this world, there isn’t even a rule that says you must like yourself—let alone that you must like someone else.”
Hearing this, Fengguang found herself at a loss for words. She knew perfectly well that this was twisted logic, yet she couldn’t find the right words to refute it. She was very clear in her own heart that something about this way of thinking was fundamentally wrong.
Yisu went on, “The Crown Princess must also think that Lord Song is an extraordinary person.”
“Well…” Fengguang hesitated. “People are different. Different people have different ways of thinking. Song Wuxia’s ideas don’t align with what most people consider normal, but calling him ‘extraordinary’… that feels like lumping him in with the ‘abnormal’ ones. I think that aside from occasionally having some baffling ideas, he’s not really that different from a normal person.”
She didn’t quite understand why she had said all of that herself, because it sounded very much like she was speaking up for Song Wuxia. After a few seconds of silence, she added, “Actually, if you set aside his terrible personality, his ambition to seize power, and his habit of bullying people… he’s not that bad.”
At the very least, he’s good-looking… That was the one merit she could come up with after thinking for quite a while.
A smile appeared on Yisu’s aged face. “If Lord Song were to hear the Crown Princess say this, he would probably be overjoyed.”
“What?” Fengguang jumped. “Don’t scare me. Overjoyed? The thing he likes most is bullying me. Not only does he bully me—his dog bullies me too.”
The old man smiled and shook his head. He looked at Fengguang as though she were a little girl whose words didn’t match her heart. “It seems the Crown Princess has quite a few grievances against Lord Song.”
“Of course I do. You have no idea how he treats me,” Fengguang said. She suddenly recalled that day on the pleasure boat when she had been alone with him, and her face flushed oddly red. She shook her head hard, banishing the stray thoughts, and decisively changed the subject. “By the way, aren’t you in charge of guarding the Cold Palace? Why are you here in the Eastern Palace?”
“The orchids in the Cold Palace have bloomed,” Yisu replied. “His Highness the Crown Prince is quite fond of them, so this old servant came to deliver the flowers.”
“So that’s it. The Crown Prince has gone to court; he’s not in the Eastern Palace right now.” Fengguang muttered again, “Yiren isn’t here today either. I wonder if the two of them went to…”
She stopped herself, suddenly remembering that someone was standing right in front of her, and left the rest unsaid.
The old man smiled knowingly. “Perhaps the Crown Princess is overthinking things.”
“Maybe I am…” Fengguang scratched her head sheepishly. “But don’t think that I mind. I’m a very generous person—if the Crown Prince really wanted to take a concubine or something, I’d raise both hands in support!”
“The Crown Princess’s magnanimity is truly admirable,” Yisu said.
Fengguang felt even more embarrassed.
Yisu smiled, then bowed slightly. “Crown Princess, this old servant came today only to deliver the flowers. Since they have been delivered, I shall take my leave.”
“All right. Take care on your way.”
“This old servant takes his leave.” Yisu turned and departed.
Not long after, Feiyu arrived with several people in tow. “Miss, don’t be afraid! I brought people with me!”
“Oh.” Fengguang replied flatly, then sat back down on the stone bench.
