A crowd immediately rushed in at the doorway. Taking advantage of the chaos, Fengguang bolted out of the room.

It was only a small fire—hardly worth such a commotion. Madam Zhang, furious at her subordinates’ incompetence, snapped, “A bunch of idiots! Go after her, now!”

Fengguang ran frantically down the corridor. The pleasure boat was large, with plenty of space and countless rooms. She glanced back at the people hot on her heels, made a sharp turn, and changed direction again. Just ahead, two maids came out of a room carrying wooden buckets. After they left and closed the door, Fengguang didn’t have time to think—she pushed the door open and rushed inside, making sure to shut it behind her.

But the instant she turned around, she froze.

There was a man inside—more precisely… a man wearing only a loose white robe. His left shoulder was half-bared, exposing a broad swath of his chest, and the slit of the robe revealed the clean lines of his long legs, enough to stir all sorts of imagination.

His ink-black hair hung loose down his back, the tips still dripping with water. Against the white robe, his features looked almost painted—so beautiful they were hard to look away from. Steam drifted from the hot bath beside him, making him seem like a god standing amid the clouds.

What made it truly lethal was this—

He was Song Wuxia.

That’s right. The very same Song Wuxia—the one who had tricked her twice.

He was calmly studying this unexpected intruder, a faint, unreadable smile playing at the corners of his lips.

Fengguang felt guilty—and more than a little intimidated—but then she snapped herself out of it. Why was she scared? She was wearing a plain blue outfit she’d never normally wear, and she had a veil over her face. Besides, they weren’t close at all. There was a good chance he wouldn’t recognize her.

With that thought, she found her courage. She forced a smile. “My apologies, sir. I’ve entered the wrong room. I’ll take my leave at once.”

She turned and opened the door, took one step out, then saw the people searching nearby hadn’t gone far. She immediately pulled her foot back in and slammed the door shut.

Song Wuxia crossed his arms and smiled. “What is it, miss? Reluctant to leave?”

“Such a beautiful night,” she said theatrically, glancing at the moon outside the window. “Since fate has brought us together, sir, why don’t we admire the moon together?”

“I find,” he replied with a smile, “that as lovely as the moon is, it still falls short of you.”

Fengguang’s face burned—thankfully, the veil hid it. “You say the moon can’t compare to me,” she said, “but I think that even the brilliant stars tonight can’t match a fraction of your elegance.”

“Is that so?” he chuckled. “I had no idea I was so charming—in the eyes of the Crown Princess, no less.”

Fengguang’s eyelid twitched. She forced a calm smile. “What Crown Princess? Is there a Crown Princess here?”

“Could it be,” he said lightly, “that after spending too much time with the people of Lanyue Pavilion, the Crown Princess has forgotten her own identity?”

In other words, had she turned into one of the women of Lanyue Pavilion?

Fengguang yanked off her veil and barked, “Song Wuxia!”

Sure enough—who else could that bright, delicate face belong to but Xia Fengguang?

Song Wuxia lifted a finger to his lips and lowered his voice. “Shh. Your Highness, keep it down. If the people chasing you hear, you won’t get away.”

Fengguang snarled, “If you just stand by and let them take me, I’ll tell everyone you’re a fake eunuch. If things blow up, neither of us will come out of it clean.”
