An Tong noticed her small actions but didn’t say anything. There was one thing Feng Guang got wrong: he had received flowers before, and quite often, though those were typically when he was in the hospital. Receiving flowers in a non-comforting context was a first for him, and it felt a bit novel.
Feng Guang continued to watch him with wide eyes. He smiled and stepped aside, “Would you like to come in and sit?”
“Sure!” She nodded, eagerly awaiting this invitation. Once inside, she discovered that his home had a classic minimalist style. The furniture, decorations, and the crystal chandelier above were all in warm, soft tones, creating a very cozy atmosphere.
However, it was also quite spacious.
An Tong used his cane to return to his wheelchair and placed the red rose in a vase. He then turned and said, “Miss Xia, please make yourself comfortable.”
“Thank you.” Feng Guang sat on the soft sofa. After curiously observing everything, she cautiously asked, “Is it just you living here?”
“I live with my mother. She’s away on a business trip for a few days,” he explained.
“Oh? Then, these days…”
An Tong smiled at her concern, “A housekeeper comes every day, and my family doctor visits every few days.”
Rather than feeling reassured, Feng Guang was disheartened. If he had no one to care for him, she could have taken the opportunity to do so herself, which would have been a perfect chance to get closer to him.
“Did you come to see me for something?” An Tong asked.
“I heard from people living nearby that you’re a student at Mingcheng University.”
“Yes,” An Tong nodded. He was already in his fourth year.
“That’s great! Mingcheng University is so hard to get into, so your grades must be excellent. Could you help me with tutoring?” Feng Guang placed her book on the table and looked at him with a pleading expression.
To be honest, her behavior of skipping classes didn’t exactly suggest she was a dedicated student.
An Tong glanced at the math book on the table and asked with a smile, “What do you need help with?”
Feng Guang’s face lit up with a radiant smile. She flipped open a page, “I don’t understand this part… and this part! This one too!”
By the end, she hadn’t understood any part of the book. She hadn’t paid much attention to the explanations, being captivated instead by his deep, rich voice and his long fingers holding the pen.
After An Tong finished explaining a problem and set down his pen, he gently asked, “Did you understand the explanation?”
“Yes!”
“Then please summarize it for me.”
“Huh?” She was stunned.
“You said you understood, so summarizing it should be easy.”
“Well… um…” She didn’t understand at all! She had been too distracted by his charm!
Feng Guang was so embarrassed she was almost sweating. Fortunately, An Tong’s phone rang, rescuing her from the awkward moment. She sighed with relief.
An Tong answered the call, “Hello, this is An Tong.”
Feng Guang saw his expression change. The easy smile was replaced with concern.
“Understood, I’ll head to the police station,” he said before hanging up. Turning to Feng Guang, he apologetically said, “Miss Xia, I’m afraid our tutoring session will have to end here. I have to go out.”
Feng Guang immediately stood up, “You’re going to the police station? I’ll come with you!”
He declined politely, “It’s late. You should go home, not accompany me. Don’t make your parents worry.”
“If you go out alone so late, I won’t feel at ease. You don’t know how dangerous it can be for single men walking alone at night. Besides, my parents aren’t home, and they wouldn’t even know what I’m doing, so they won’t worry about me.” She winked slyly, “Anyway, if you don’t let me come, I’ll follow you regardless.”
An Tong suddenly felt a headache coming on.
