Without a second thought, Feng Guang rushed to the hospital overnight. At the entrance to the emergency room, she saw Han Qi’s parents.
Zhen Wei immediately came over, clutching Feng Guang’s hand and sobbing so hard she could barely speak.
“Miss Xia, you and Han Qi are very close, aren’t you? … I heard from the doctors that you’ve been visiting him often lately. He’s completely lost the will to live. The doctors said… said if he keeps staying unconscious…”
As a mother, Zhen Wei simply didn’t dare to finish her sentence.
Han Wei patted his wife’s shoulder in silent comfort, then turned to Feng Guang with pleading eyes.
“Miss Xia, we… we really had no other choice but to think of you.”
Feng Guang asked directly, “What do you want me to do?”
What she needed to do was simple: change into sterilized clothing, walk into the emergency room, and talk to Han Qi. She wouldn’t need to say much—just enough to give him a reason to fight and come back.
The doctor she had met once before told her,
“This time, Han Qi’s condition flared up suddenly. We tried every possible treatment and barely saved his life. But we never expected… that he’d pull out his own breathing tube. Now his situation is even worse.”
Han Qi lay quietly on the bed. His sleeping face was beautiful, and if not for the pallor of his skin, anyone would think he was simply asleep.
Feng Guang held his hand very gently at first, but slowly, almost without realizing it, she began to grip it tighter and tighter.
The doctor continued,
“Mr. and Mrs. Han have both tried talking to him, but their words don’t seem to have much effect. So… we thought of you. These past few days, Han Qi’s face has been showing more smiles. I believe it’s because of you. Sigh… don’t feel too pressured. Just talk to him casually.”
With a sigh, the doctor and the other medical staff stepped aside, leaving Feng Guang alone.
Right now, in Feng Guang’s eyes, there was no one else but Han Qi.
Han Qi had always been a gentle and optimistic person.
That was the first impression he had given her, and she had never imagined that someone like him would ever want to die. But now, here it was, happening to him.
Feng Guang suddenly felt as though she couldn’t breathe. She knew exactly why he was doing this. If he died, maybe Han Chen could live. Maybe… maybe in the future she would forget about him and be with Han Chen instead. After all, Han Chen and he were so alike. In Han Qi’s eyes, she might choose Han Chen one day.
But Feng Guang knew in her heart that even if Han Qi died—if he turned to ashes—she would never be with Han Chen.
“Han Qi…” She gripped his hand tightly, her voice unnervingly calm.
“You’re being way too idealistic. Do you really think that if you die, I’ll be sad for a while and then just fall in love with another man? Do you really think everything will go exactly as you planned? You die, and everything ends for you—no more worries. Don’t you think that’s unfair?”
Her voice rose, anger masking her grief. She had never felt this furious before.
“Han Qi, I don’t care whether you can hear me or not. I’m putting my words right here!” Her tone turned icy, her face unshakable.
“If you die… do you believe me—do you believe I could kill myself just to follow you?”
