A long while passed before Fengguang finally answered.
“I don’t know.”

It wasn’t exactly a clear answer, but Han Chen smiled anyway. He pulled his gaze away from her and looked quietly ahead.
“At least you didn’t try to lie to me. That alone is… a little comforting.”

His calm tone betrayed no emotion.

“Han Chen—”

“Miss Xia.” He cut her off, eyes curving as if in a smile, though his words were cold.
“Put away your pity. After all… things haven’t reached the end yet.”

Fengguang stayed silent. Anything more she said would be meaningless. No matter how she tried to comfort him, or how indifferent she pretended to be, it would only waste words.

So the air between them settled into silence.

Not far away, another scene was unfolding.

Gu Lan had a boy by the collar, warning him about something. His mood was clearly foul, radiating an aura of keep away. The only ones daring to stand near him were the boy he was gripping—and Mu Jin, still too clueless to realize what was going on.

“Trying to bump into her just to hit on her? Didn’t you see me standing here?” Gu Lan snarled, glaring viciously at the boy. His tone couldn’t have been harsher.

People in the hall began gathering to watch, whispering among themselves.

“Gu Lan, calm down,” Mu Jin said quickly. “If there’s something to say, use your words, not your fists.”

“Use my words?” Gu Lan shot back, exasperated with her. “Can’t you see this punk deliberately ran into you to strike up a conversation?”

Mu Jin: “…”

She honestly hadn’t noticed.

Han Chen stroked his chin, lips curling in amusement. He turned to Fengguang.
“Not going to join the fun?”

He could tell Fengguang didn’t harbor any special feelings for Gu Lan, but since Gu Lan bore the title of her fiancé, his very public display of protectiveness toward another woman couldn’t help but make her lose face.

“You really want me to?” Fengguang asked.

“Kind of…”

“Alright then. Let’s go see what the fuss is about.” Fengguang tilted her head with a sweet smile, set her glass of orange juice on the table, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and walked forward with the flawless poise of a true heiress.

Han Chen raised his brows and fell in step beside her.

Fengguang stopped in front of them.
“Gu Lan, what are you doing?”

Hearing her voice, Gu Lan stiffened, then looked at her.
“Whatever I want. Since when is that your business?”

“It isn’t,” she said lightly. “So… are you planning to do whatever it is you want to this boy right now?” She crossed her arms, smiling sweetly.

On the surface, nothing about her words was wrong. But the more one thought about them, the more off they sounded. Gu Lan’s lips twitched.
“Xia Fengguang, what the hell are you talking about?”

“I’m just making a reasonable guess, based on your behavior.” Her voice was slow, almost lazy. Then she turned her gaze to the quiet boy still pinned in place. She smiled.
“Are you really just going to grab someone like this, Young Master Gu? Without even hearing what he has to say?”

“He deliberately bumped into that bookworm Mu Jin. If it wasn’t because he wanted to get close to her, then what else could it be? Do I even need to ask?”

“Of course you do. For all you know, maybe the one he wanted to get close to… was you.”
