Han Chen asked curiously, “Xia classmate, why aren’t you saying anything?”
What did he expect her to say? Nothing could ease the awkwardness right now!
Feng Guang twitched the corner of her mouth and quietly turned her body a little to the side. She had to admit, every time she faced this boy, she always felt helpless.
But he seemed to think she was just feeling guilty, so he kindly added, “Xia classmate, you really don’t need to feel guilty. My grandpa’s a good man. Back then, when someone openly criticized him to his face, he just smiled and let it go. Of course… only after they left did he feel sad about it.”
She lifted her hand to cover her face. She really didn’t want to hear another “but” or “however” from his mouth.
Han Chen went on, “Anyway, my grandpa didn’t even see you touch his beloved collection, did he?”
“Stop it!” Feng Guang stared straight at him. “What can I do to make it up?”
In just a few words, he had completely stirred up her guilt. Especially when he kept emphasizing that the old man didn’t know what she had done—it made her conscience burn even more fiercely. Feng Guang might not think of herself as a saint, but if it came to hurting an elderly man, she could never let herself off the hook.
“Make it up?” Han Chen tilted his head. “Xia classmate, you didn’t actually do anything wrong, so what’s there to make up for?”
She pressed her lips together. “I shouldn’t have sat in that grand master’s chair.”
“If you see that as a mistake…” Han Chen said thoughtfully, “I understand. When you think you’ve done something wrong, guilt and remorse naturally follow. Personally, I don’t think you did anything wrong. But if it’ll make you feel better…” He paused to think, then slowly suggested, “Why don’t you help my grandpa tidy up the house?”
“Clean? Aren’t you worried I’ll mess with something precious again?”
He smiled. “Just sweeping and dusting. Nothing drastic. And of course, if you’d rather not, that’s fine too… I can do it myself.”
She clenched her teeth. “I’ll do it!”
“Well, since you’re so determined, I won’t argue. Here are the cleaning tools, Xia classmate. Take them.”
When Feng Guang saw him pull out a mop and rags from behind the door, her eyebrow twitched. “You already had them ready?”
“I was planning a big cleaning today anyway. But since you insisted on taking the job, I’ll just graciously accept your help.” He sighed with mock helplessness, as if he had really meant to do it himself.
But it was obviously all an act.
Feng Guang’s expression turned complicated. Gripping the mop, she cursed this “scheming” man a hundred times over in her heart.
Han Chen chuckled. “If you start now, Xia classmate, you might just finish before five-thirty.”
“I get it! Stop rushing me!” She shot him a fierce glare, but still grabbed the mop and actually started cleaning the floor.
When the old man came back out, he was stunned to see the room bright and spotless, even the dusty corners scrubbed clean. He blinked, then spotted Feng Guang holding the mop and quickly walked over. “Little girl, what are you doing?”
Sitting nearby, Han Chen poured himself a cup of tea and said lazily, “Grandpa, Xia classmate is helping you clean the house.”
“I can see that. I’m asking why she’s cleaning my house. Little girl, why are you doing this? You’re a guest!”
