It was the Heavenly Emperor who finally broke the awkward silence. His gentle, fatherly gaze fell on Feng Guang.
“Feng Guang, have your injuries fully healed?”
Startled, Feng Guang paused for a moment before replying, “They’re almost healed.”
“That’s good,” the Heavenly Emperor said with a satisfied nod.
The Heavenly Empress quickly added, “If you still feel unwell, the treasury has many rare healing elixirs. Mother can bring some to you.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Suva answered instead, smiling politely. “No matter what medicine it is, I already have it. There’s no need for the Heavenly Emperor or Empress to trouble themselves.”
At those words, the Empress’s gentle expression stiffened briefly. After a moment, she returned to her dignified smile and said, “Mr. Su is right. If Feng Guang needs any medicine, you’ll naturally have it.”
Mr. Su? Her mother called him Mr. Su?
Feng Guang felt a flicker of doubt in her heart. That kind of distant formality didn’t sound like something a mother-in-law would call her son-in-law.
The Heavenly Emperor then spoke to his wife. “Today is your birthday. People from all three realms have come to celebrate. Let’s not dwell on family matters.”
“You’re right,” the Heavenly Empress replied with another smile. She no longer looked at Feng Guang but turned her gaze toward the gathered guests. “I thank you all for coming today. The Emperor and I have prepared the finest Jade Dew Wine. Please, enjoy yourselves.”
With that, it was as if a switch had been flipped. The quiet atmosphere was instantly filled with lively chatter. Guests drank, laughed, and talked, though all were careful not to cast their eyes toward Feng Guang and Suva.
Feng Guang couldn’t shake the feeling that she didn’t belong here. And the reason was the man sitting beside her.
Suva placed a cup of wine in front of her. “Jade Dew Wine doesn’t intoxicate easily. You used to love this wine. It’s only because of your recent health that I’ve kept a stricter watch. But tonight, one small cup is fine.”
“I used to love this wine.” Curious about the taste, she lifted the cup and took a small sip. Her eyes lit up. Then she drank the whole cup in one go and sighed in delight. “This is so good. I like it.”
Indeed, heavenly wine was heavenly wine—far better than anything from the mortal world. Wait… had she ever been to the mortal world?
As she drifted between thoughts, she poured herself another cup. She didn’t know how many she had already drunk. When she reached for yet another, a hand pressed down on hers.
“That’s enough, Feng Guang. You can’t drink anymore.”
“No… I want more.” She pouted, brushed his hand aside, and downed another cup. She didn’t notice her cheeks flushing and her skin growing hot—the clear signs of intoxication.
Her vision swam, her lashes fluttered, and then her body slumped against Suva’s chest. Still, she mumbled about wanting another drink.
Suva sighed helplessly, holding her in his arms. He took out a white handkerchief and gently wiped the wine from the corner of her lips. Feng Guang was beautiful to begin with, but in her drunken state, she carried an added charm. Carefully, Suva tucked her face into his chest, shielding her from prying eyes.
At that moment, Jian Dan leaned in. “Uncle-in-law, I think my aunt’s drunk. Why don’t I take her somewhere to sober up?”
The way he said it—well, even if someone were to take Feng Guang away, it wouldn’t be a man like him.
“Thank you for your concern,” Suva replied evenly. “But since Feng Guang is drunk, I’ll be the one to take her home.”
