This was the drama of the century!

First, the King of Hell and Naihe were fighting over the same woman.
Then the King of Hell and Meng Po started arguing.
Normally, the King of Hell never left his palace, and the underworld was as quiet as a grave, aside from the occasional ghost wailing. But now that he had stepped out? The whole place was more festive than the Lunar New Year!

“Men and women shouldn’t be touching each other so casually!” Meng Po stormed over, yanked Ao Ye’s hand off Fengguang’s wrist, and—just for good measure—shoved Fengguang right into Naihe’s arms. She positioned herself protectively between Fengguang and Ao Ye and said,
“I don’t care if you’re my boss—grabbing women like that? What if word gets out? What would people think of the underworld staff?! We’d lose all credibility!”

Ao Ye had always thought the saying “women and petty men are hard to manage” was painfully accurate. Case in point: here stood a woman, dressed like a rebellious teenager, yelling at him without a shred of dignity.
After a long pause, his face darkened. “Nonsense!”

“Nonsense?” Meng Po rolled up her sleeves. “How was that nonsense? Everyone saw it—the first thing you did was grab her hand! I could file a complaint with Heaven about this!”

(Granted, she had just scolded him for touching Fengguang, then immediately shoved the girl into another man’s arms… but whatever.)

Ao Ye winced as her pale, bare arm flashed in front of his eyes.
He shouted in frustration, “Just look at what you’re wearing! It’s indecent—put some proper clothes on!”

“Oh, please, it’s the modern age! What’s wrong with the way I dress? If it bothers your eyes, that’s a win for me!”

“MENG PO!”

“What? I’m your elder. What—are you gonna hit me now?”

Ao Ye’s blood was boiling. He took a deep breath. Then another. Then a third.
Finally, his voice leveled out. “I won’t hit you.”

“Well then—”

Before she could finish, a hand suddenly struck the back of Meng Po’s neck.
Her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed backwards.

A strong arm caught her by the waist mid-fall, redirected her body, and let her slump gracefully into the man’s chest.

“I only meant to knock you out,” Ao Ye said coolly.

Everyone stood there, stunned.

Black and White Impermanence both looked at Ao Ye with newfound admiration.
How had they never noticed their boss was this… clever?

With Meng Po taken care of, Ao Ye turned back to look for Fengguang and Naihe—but they were already gone. That only made him angrier.

Meanwhile, back in the sea of red spider lilies, Fengguang suddenly came to her senses and quickly pulled away from Naihe’s embrace.

After gathering herself, she asked in confusion,
“Just now… that King of Hell—what was that about?”

“You resemble someone he used to know,” Naihe replied as he started walking toward a wooden cabin nestled in the flower field.

Fengguang glanced around.
It was the familiar sea of red spider lilies, but she was certain—this wasn’t the part she used to visit.
This place felt… deeper. Somewhere only he could enter.
She looked again at the glowing phantom butterflies fluttering through the air and followed after him.

“Where are we?” she asked.

“My home.”

She stepped inside the wooden cabin with him.
The interior was simple, yet elegant and serene.

“Why did you bring me here?” she asked.

“Now that Ao Ye has seen you, he won’t let this go easily,” Naihe said. “But this place is under my control. He can’t come here.”

“But… isn’t he the King of Hell?”

“He is.”

“Then why do you just call him by name like that…”

“He may be King of Hell, but he’s not my superior,” Naihe said calmly.
“No one can command me.”

Now that… was a staggeringly arrogant thing to say.
