Yan Yu couldn’t sense any demonic energy, which meant that the demon had already left. Frustrated, she sheathed her pale green longsword, her face dark with anger. Ever since she’d advanced in her cultivation, she hadn’t met a single worthy opponent in years. Yet today she’d been toyed with like a monkey, and to make things worse, she couldn’t even track where he’d gone. Of course, she was pissed.

“I wasn’t the only one watching!” Fengguang quickly tossed her seeds into a nearby trash can, looking pitiful. Like, come on—don’t just scold me alone.
“You weren’t the only one? Who else was there?”
“Well… huh?” Fengguang turned around, only to realize the man who’d been standing there with her—the one who shared her twisted sense of humor—was gone.
Xia Yanyu bonked Fengguang on the head. “There was no one there! What, are you seeing ghosts now? If you don’t care whether your sister lives or dies, say so!”
“How could I not care?” Fengguang laughed awkwardly. “See? Even though I’m scared of that non-human stuff, I didn’t run away, did I?”
“I’m screwed!” Xia Yanyu suddenly clutched her head and wailed. “I’m gonna be late for my major class!”
She had no time to argue with Fengguang’s slick excuses. Without another word, she bolted toward the teaching building.
Being late wasn’t the end of the world… It’s not like she’d fail or anything.
Unlike Xia Yanyu’s panicked sprint, Fengguang strolled along like she was in a park. Leisurely and unbothered.
That is, until she stepped into the classroom and spotted the one person she didn’t want to see: the infamous middle-aged woman standing at the podium—the teacher everyone privately called “the Grim Reaper.”
Her first instinct was to turn and walk out.
Unfortunately, the teacher had sharp eyes.
“Xia Fengguang, where do you think you’re going?” the teacher said, stepping away from the podium and walking over to the door. Her smile was enough to make anyone’s knees buckle.
Fengguang’s face twisted in agony for a split second, then she forced a brilliant smile. “Oh, I just saw it was you, Ms. Wu! You’re my favorite teacher! I figured you must be thirsty from all that lecturing, so I was heading out to get you a bottle of water!”
“Is that so? Since when has Xia Fengguang become so thoughtful and considerate?” Ms. Wu’s smile deepened. “Now I’m starting to wonder if those rumors I heard about you calling me the ‘Grim Reaper’ were true after all.”
“Total misunderstanding. That was a misunderstanding,” Fengguang said quickly. Laughter bubbled up from the other students, and for once, Fengguang felt a sense of embarrassment. It’s not like she was the only one who used that nickname, but of course, she was the one who got caught red-handed.
She glanced at Xia Yanyu, who was sitting in the front row, being the model student. Fengguang sent a look: “Didn’t she say she didn’t teach our class? Why is she here?”
Yanyu wiggled her brows and shot back a silent reply: “The Classical Chinese teacher had something come up. They rescheduled last minute. You’re on your own.”
After a long pause, Fengguang plastered on another smile. “Ms. Wu, if I’d known you were teaching today, I would’ve come super early to save a seat! Everyone in class knows—you’re the teacher I admire most!”
“Oh really? Xia Fengguang admires me?”
“Absolutely. Every day, I hope you’ll be the one teaching our class. And now my wish has come true! I’m just over the moon.”
