“I can’t leave yet.”
He lifted his hand to touch her face, but realizing it was stained with blood, he switched to the clean one and gently caressed her cheek.
“Fengguang, why did you come to Wuji Tower?”

His eyes softened, and even his voice was laced with deep emotion.

Fengguang might not know it, but Si Jia knew Wuji Tower never let anyone go. If he didn’t sever ties with them completely, they’d haunt him for life.

She didn’t quite understand, but still, out of love or helplessness, she chose to support him.

He let out a light laugh. “I thought you’d be mad at me.”

He said softly, “Fengguang…”

“Hmm?”

“I still don’t fully understand what love is, but… I think I love you.”
He lifted her chin and kissed her.

Fengguang closed her eyes. Oddly enough, a tender, lingering kiss in the middle of all this bloodshed didn’t feel out of place, it actually felt… perfect.

When they finally parted, he traced her lips lightly with his tongue and whispered,
“I’m not going to die. I’ll walk out of Wuji Tower alive. And I’m never letting you be with another man.”

He had rushed to take on the trial of the death warriors because of rumors that Princess Changning was about to choose a husband. He wanted to reach her without anything holding him back. Even if she ended up choosing someone else, even if she married him, Si Jia had already made up his mind: he would take her away, no matter what it cost.

Even if she came to hate him for it.

Fengguang shook her head.

He pressed a gentle kiss to the center of her forehead, his voice warm and full of joy.

But Fengguang didn’t let herself get carried away in the moment. She grabbed his hand, her tone resolute.
“Let’s go the rest of the way together, okay?”

“Okay.”
He lowered his gaze, looking at her with nothing but softness. One way or another, he was determined to protect her on this path.

But Si Jia miscalculated.
It wasn’t him protecting her, it was her protecting him.

For the rest of the journey, Fengguang charged forward like a whirlwind. Anyone in her way, she took down. Sword in hand, she faced every enemy head-on. Not to kill them, she’d said before, she didn’t like killing. Even if the death warriors were barely human, she still avoided fatal blows.
