A palace maid reported from the entrance, “Your Highness, the Princess Consort of Prince Luo requests an audience.”
“Not seeing anyone,” Fengguang replied instinctively. Then she caught herself and asked, “You mean Feng Miyin wants to see me?”
“Yes, Your Highness, it is indeed the Princess Consort of Prince Luo,” the maid confirmed, careful not to call her by name as casually as the princess did.
Fengguang didn’t understand why Feng Miyin would come looking for her. But the moment she thought of Feng Miyin, she inevitably thought of Si Jia—the man who had entered the palace with her not long ago. After a pause, she finally said, “Let her in.”
The maid left and returned shortly with Feng Miyin.
Feng Miyin gave a formal bow. “Greetings, Your Highness.”
“No need to stand on ceremony, Princess Consort,” Fengguang replied politely, rising from the table by the window and walking over to her. “A few days ago, you and Prince Luo were newly wed. Due to my condition, I wasn’t able to attend the wedding. I hope you’ll forgive me.”
“You’re too kind, Your Highness. A wedding is only a formality. To receive your well wishes is already more than enough to make me happy,” Feng Miyin replied with a radiant smile, one so stunning it almost stole the breath away.
Fengguang silently tried to recall which part of the story they were in. This should be the stage where the male and female leads bicker constantly while secretly developing feelings for one another. But as the female supporting role, she hadn’t done anything to provoke the heroine, so why had Feng Miyin come to see her?
Testing the waters, she asked, “How have things been between you and Prince Luo these past few days?”
“I’m from Liubi Kingdom,” Feng Miyin replied with a subtle tone. “Aside from some differences in lifestyle and a bit of a lack of rapport with Prince Luo, everything has been fine.” Though tactfully worded, her meaning was clear: things weren’t going well between them.
Fengguang responded just as diplomatically, “Since you’re now husband and wife, I’m sure the two of you will grow to respect and understand each other in time.”
“Thank you for your kind words, Your Highness.” Feng Miyin replied graciously, but her calm and composed gaze made it clear that she didn’t entirely mean what she said.
Fengguang chose to interpret her performance as flawless acting. Since the pleasantries had been exchanged, she got to the point. “So what brings you here today, Princess Consort?”
“First, I came to offer my congratulations on Your Highness’s recovery. Second…” Her eyes grew complicated as she continued, “I came to speak with you about Si Jia.”
At the mention of that name, Fengguang no longer bothered pretending to smile. Her expression turned cold. “Why do you want to speak with me about Si Jia?”
“Your Highness,” Feng Miyin said plainly, “let’s not beat around the bush. I know that since you fell unconscious, things haven’t been as you’ve publicly claimed. You’re not entirely unaware of what happened. You must have encountered Si Jia in your dream state, correct?”
Fengguang replied calmly, “So what if I did? So what if I didn’t?”
“If Your Highness knows what happened, and yet chooses not to name Si Jia as the one who tried to kill you—should I take that to mean you’re protecting him?”
Fengguang had always disliked people trying to read her thoughts, especially not someone like the heroine. With a sneer, she put on an air of indifference. “You seem quite clever, Princess Consort. Why don’t you keep guessing? Right or wrong, I’ll treat it like listening to a good story.”
