TSFLIP Chapter 559

Feng Guang tried to comfort her. “Madam, don’t worry. Why don’t we all go out and look for him? You’er is still just a child, and it’s already so late—he couldn’t have gone far.”

You’er’s mother frowned deeply. “I suppose that’s all we can do… Young lady, thank you for your trouble.”

“It’s no trouble. I like that child too. I’ll head out with Si—uh, Thirteen to search the streets.”

“Sigh… thank you, miss. I appreciate it.”

Master Chen also added, “I’ll have the members of our troupe help with the search as well.”

After speaking with the two women, Feng Guang decisively grabbed Si Jia and left the inn.

As they walked through the bustling streets, Si Jia asked, “Why do we need to go look for that child?”

“Because he might be in danger.”

He was about to say, ‘Even if he is, that’s none of my business’, but when he saw how serious she looked, he changed what he was going to say. “Maybe the troupe is the key to this.”

“You think there’s something off about Master Chen?” Feng Guang stopped and looked at him, eyes shining with admiration, as if to say, “Great minds think alike.”

“Exactly.”

“Well, that makes things easier then!”

He hesitated. “Makes what easier?”

“I only said we were going out to look for the kid so I could mislead Master Chen.” She tiptoed and whispered into his ear mysteriously, “I was just trying to figure out how to bring it up to you—I want to sneak into his room and take a look around.”

Seeing how she had to stretch to whisper to him, Si Jia stayed quiet for a moment, then bent down slightly so she wouldn’t have to keep tiptoeing. “You want me to go with you.”

“Of course! I’d be scared to go alone.” She instinctively shook his hand, her usual playful pleading making a return.

Si Jia still remembered his promise to stay by her side and protect her for these three days, so he nodded. “One quick trip won’t hurt.”

The night was dark, and the wind was high. Two shadows appeared on the inn’s rooftop.

A man in white carried a girl in red as they landed silently on the roof tiles.

Si Jia glanced at the open window, then wrapped his arm around Feng Guang’s waist and leapt through the window into the dark room. Master Chen and her people had gone out to search for You’er, so the room was empty. Feng Guang pulled out a fire striker, ready to light it.

But Si Jia stopped her hand. “You don’t want to see what’s in here.”

He knew she was easily frightened, and what lay ahead would be better left unseen.

“There’s… something in this room?” Her voice trembled as she shrank closer to him.

Si Jia, being an assassin, had far sharper night vision than Feng Guang. Even without any light, he could see what lay ahead—and he knew exactly how disturbing it would be for her.

“Let’s talk outside,” Si Jia said as he wrapped an arm around her waist and leapt out the window again.

Once they were in a quiet alleyway, Feng Guang couldn’t hold back anymore and asked, “What did you see in there?”

He hesitated, clearly debating whether or not to tell her.

“Si Jia, just tell me already! You’re making me anxious!”

“I…” He chose his words carefully. “In Master Chen’s room, I saw the skeleton of a child.”

“…What did you say?”

“The remains were in the corner. Judging by the condition, they’d been there for about ten years. Both hands were missing, but the rest was intact.”

Feng Guang said blankly, “Ten years… then that means it’s not You’er.”

“But the clothing on the skeleton—it was identical to what You’er wears.”

“Maybe it’s just… the local style here? All the kids dress like that?”

“There was a longevity locket on the body. It had You’er’s name carved on it.”
