“It’s all right.” Feng Guang shook her head. She noticed the boy was now crying quietly, hiding behind his mother. She reached into a small pouch attached to her side, took out two pieces of candy, knelt, and held them forward. “Here, have some candy. If you eat it, you shouldn’t cry anymore, okay?”

The little boy, whose name was You’er, glanced up at his mother first. When she nodded her approval, he reached forward and took the candy. “Thank you, big sister.”

“You’re very welcome.” Feng Guang stood up with a sweet smile. She’d gotten the candy from a small stall after begging Sijia to buy it for her on their way here.

“Thank you, miss. Your kindness will surely bring you blessings.” The woman nodded and addressed her son. “Let’s go back to our room.”

The little boy glanced back at Feng Guang once more and then followed his mother back into their room.
