The spaceship jolted violently. Surrounded by swarms of Zerg, they had no choice but to make an emergency landing on the nearest planet. All soldiers were ordered to arm themselves and head out to engage in battle.
Feng Guang didn’t have time to think. Clutching the pendant around her neck, she flung the door open and ran out.
“Feng Guang!” Nan Xiaoxiao called after her. She gritted her teeth and chased after her without hesitation.
The situation was so dire that even the soldiers assigned to guard them had rushed out, weapons in hand. That left Feng Guang free to sprint out of the ship without obstruction. Outside, human mechas were locked in brutal combat with the Zerg. The makeshift battlefield was already a scene of carnage—flames, smoke, and the stench of blood filled the air. Bodies fell one after another, but none of it made Feng Guang stop.
She rushed into the heart of the chaos, eyes scanning frantically, searching for something, or someone. Explosions burst around her, fire and debris brushing past her shoulders, but she paid them no mind. Her only focus was finding the answer she needed.
“Feng Guang! It’s too dangerous out here!” Nan Xiaoxiao caught up and grabbed her hand. The gunfire and blasts were deafening, so she had to shout, “We have to go back!”
Not far away, Yan Yu was commanding the battle. When he spotted Nan Xiaoxiao running out, his heart dropped. He wanted nothing more than to rush over and drag the disobedient woman back into the safety of the ship—but the Zerg were thick around him, and he was standing beside the completely defenseless Chen Yu. If he left, Chen Yu would be torn apart in seconds.
“I’m not going back!” Feng Guang shouted, her voice hoarse. “He’s here—I know he is! He came for me!”
She stumbled forward a few more steps, eyes wild.
Nan Xiaoxiao’s hand was shaken off. She saw a blast heading straight for Feng Guang and screamed in panic, “Feng Guang!”
The explosion lit up Feng Guang’s face. She stared straight into the oncoming fire, paralyzed. And in that instant, time stopped.
The bullet froze in midair. The Zerg’s razor-sharp limbs hung motionless mid-swing. Nan Xiaoxiao’s panic-stricken expression and Yan Yu’s grim face inside the mech all froze in place, like a scene caught between breaths.
The fire, just inches away from Feng Guang, cast a glow in her dark eyes—eyes that suddenly reflected a figure approaching through the frozen flames.
He walked onto the battlefield like he belonged there, his face as beautiful as ever, calm and smiling. Amid the wreckage and corpses, the carnage became nothing more than his backdrop. He strode forward with elegance, cutting through the stench of blood and gunpowder like a god of war returning to survey his domain.
At last, in the middle of the burning battlefield, he stood before her. The fierce aura around him faded, replaced by something soft—something tender.
“I’m back,” he said.
Smack!
The sound of a slap echoed crisply.
Feng Guang’s hand dropped, fingers curling into a fist. She stared at him with wide, furious eyes. Was she afraid?
Of course, she was afraid that one flick of his finger could turn her into a corpse. But her fury burned hotter than her fear. This wasn’t just anger—it was rage that went down to the bone.
She’d wanted to slap him so hard he coughed up blood, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. No matter what, she was always the soft-hearted one.
The silence between them was thick, nearly suffocating.
Then, Xu Wang smiled faintly. He lowered his head, gazing at her from even closer.
“It was my fault,” he said gently. “If you’re still angry, Feng Guang, you can slap me again.”
