The moment she thought of the bond-marking… Feng Guang’s mind went completely blank.
Flirting with this man was one thing—but doing that kind of intense activity with him was something else entirely!
Whenever she was faced with a situation she didn’t know how to handle, her instinct was always to run. And that’s exactly what she tried to do. She spun around to flee—but unfortunately, this time, the man was prepared. He caught her wrist and pushed her firmly against the wall, trapping her between his body and the cold stone behind her.
Xu Wang held her wrist with one hand, the other braced beside her head on the wall. He leaned down, his face inches from hers. Their breaths mingled, close enough to feel the heat and tension in the air.
“Miss Xia,” he said in a low, dangerous voice, “you go into heat around me. That means you like me. Or… do you go into heat around everyone?”
Feng Guang gritted her teeth. “You’re the one who’s randomly going into heat!”
If she were really that easy, she would’ve hooked up with one of those fresh-faced young soldiers in uniforms back on Yan Yu’s ship! It’s not like she wasn’t a sucker for a man in uniform.
She was angry now—and that only made Xu Wang more amused. “Then why did you try to run?”
“What, you want me to just stand there and wait for you to mark me?!”
“Miss Xia,” he murmured, “bond-marking can be a very pleasurable experience.”
As he spoke, he brushed his tongue along the sensitive skin of her neck.
A shiver jolted through her like an electric shock. Her knees buckled, and before she knew it, he had swept her into his arms. That potent masculine scent surrounded her, dizzying her senses and awakening an unspeakable craving.
Her body reacted on instinct, but her mind was still fighting. This man… he had just released his mating pheromones on her!
Unlike in the study, when he’d received her scent, this time he was in full control. Which meant—no matter how calm or composed she thought she was—if he wanted it, she would become nothing more than a woman begging beneath him.
Feng Guang had always known this world was dangerous. But this was the first time she truly felt what it meant to lose control over her own body. And that helplessness hit her hard.
Xu Wang noticed the tear slipping from the corner of her eye. He’d never seen tears before, so with childlike curiosity, he leaned in and licked it away with the tip of his tongue. Her entire body tensed at the contact.
“It’s warm… a little salty,” he said with a tilted smile, his voice teasing, seductive. “So this is what the books mean by ‘tears.’ They say humans cry when they’re happy, when they’re sad, or when they’re angry. Miss Xia… which one are you feeling now?”
“What do you think?” she snapped, face taut with frustration. A moment ago, he was the one explaining basic human knowledge to her—and now he was the one acting clueless?
“I’d say… happy.” Xu Wang lied without blinking. “You’re overjoyed at the thought of being marked by me.”
Feng Guang took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. “Warden Xu… you’re only trying to mark me because you’re reacting to my pheromones, right? It’s not because you like me, is it?”
Xu Wang looked genuinely puzzled. “Does liking you matter? We’re both drawn to each other’s scent. Isn’t that enough?”
“Maybe that’s how things work in your world. Maybe you think pheromones alone are enough reason to sleep with someone. But I’m not from your world. Where I come from, you only go to bed with someone when there’s mutual love. You don’t even like me—so what right do you have to sleep with me?”
These days, having sexual intercourse has become a very casual thing. People have one night stands or just friends with benefits, and what not.
I hate it. Love has become casual as well. Couples will break-up after a couple of weeks, and go for another relationship. I absolutely detest this. I believe love should be sacred and holy. Haha
Thanks for the updates!
I think I’m gonna reread this novel again, starting now. I don’t have other novels to read, and waiting for an update is so painful.
