“You mean… mating?” she asked. She didn’t enjoy studying much, but she had at least picked up a thing or two in biology class.

Ji Mian chuckled at her bold choice of words. “Yes, we’ll mate.”

“But… I don’t want to have kids so soon,” she said with concern. She had just turned fifteen, and the idea of getting pregnant after mating troubled her.

His voice was warm with amusement. “Then we’ll do what you want. We won’t have children so early.”

“But my eyes… I can’t see right now. Will you get tired of me? Will you stop liking me because I’m a burden?”

“Never.” Ji Mian kissed the corner of her eye and lowered his voice. “Feng Guang, let’s make a promise.”

“What kind of promise?”

“No matter what happens from now on, you must protect yourself first.”

“But if Xiao You’s in danger—”

“If Xiao You is in danger, I’ll handle it. But you must get yourself to safety first. You’re not allowed to get hurt, and you’re not allowed to disappear. Do you understand?”

His voice turned slightly cold. “This is a promise you must keep—no matter what. If you can’t… then I’ll have no choice but to take you away from this house and keep you somewhere safe myself.”

Feng Guang trembled. “Okay, brother… I’ll listen.”

“Good girl.” He smiled, brushing aside her messy bangs. “I know you’re someone who keeps her promises. That’s why I know you’ll be able to do this. Right?”
