Fengguang tilted her head, puzzled. “Brother?”
Ji Mian didn’t respond to her confusion. He quickly walked out of the hospital room, finally stopping in the empty hallway to lean against the wall. He placed a hand on his chest—his heart was pounding wildly.
He had never felt this way before. And yet, this unfamiliar feeling sparked a strange desire inside him.
He didn’t know what that desire was. He couldn’t explain it with biology or chemistry. All he knew was that whatever was happening to him, it all started with the girl sitting in that hospital bed.
As always, whenever he felt something he didn’t understand, Ji Mian told himself the same thing: Xia Fengguang is just someone I’m using. He needed her to help him and Xiao You survive better within the Xia family.
But now, that excuse wasn’t working anymore.
His heart was beating so fast, it felt like it would tear out of his chest. And if it did, then what?
Maybe he’d lay it, bloodied and raw, right in front of her, and tell her, This is your fault.
He thought he was going insane.
It was like there had always been a locked black box in his heart. And now, the lock had rusted and broken. As the box opened, a thick, cold darkness poured out, wrapping around his entire chest.
And what kind of person had he become?
Someone who wanted to destroy. Someone who wanted to possess.
The chains of reason that had once held him back—shattered. He lowered his head, messy hair falling over his eyes, hiding the madness within.
From the side, his face was still perfect. His lips curved up slightly, handsome—yet disturbingly seductive.
He belonged in the darkness. He didn’t deserve her. But this feeling—he couldn’t suppress it anymore.
And if he couldn’t suppress it, then fine. He’d stop trying.
He was going to have that girl, no matter what it took, no matter what it cost.
Fengguang, completely unaware that a certain man had decided to let his dark nature loose, was still stuck on why he’d suddenly called her an idiot. She was never one to dwell on things she didn’t understand, so she quickly gave up trying to figure it out.
But not long after, she heard footsteps again.
“Brother, is that you?”
“It’s me.”
“Brother Fu?”
Fu Yang chuckled, “Wow, Fengguang still remembers my voice? I’m honored.”
“I remember everyone’s voices, so of course I remember yours too. Hmm… I vaguely recall, when I was unconscious, you kept talking to me and telling me not to fall asleep, right?”
“Yeah. When I saw you all banged up like that, it scared the hell out of me. I kept thinking—if a girl as pretty as you left this world, what a shame that’d be.”
She laughed. “Brother Fu, you sure know how to sweet-talk someone.”
Every girl lights up when someone compliments her looks—Fengguang was no exception.
Fu Yang gently patted the top of her head, his voice tinged with concern. “Fengguang, you’re the strongest person I’ve ever met.”
Back then, he couldn’t understand how anyone could be so cruel to a girl. But once he found out she was Xia Chao’s daughter, it all made sense.
Xia Chao and Wang Ci were titans in the business world. Every time they won a contract or absorbed another company, their list of enemies grew longer.
In business, revenge isn’t any softer than what you’d find in the underworld.
