Ji Mian took the candy from Ji You’s hand. He remembered the little girl who used to grit her teeth and say she wouldn’t buy snacks or toys anymore because she wanted to save money for him. Without realizing it, he clenched the candy so tightly that it left marks on his palm.

He forced himself to stay calm and tried to think rationally. The security in this area was usually very good—there was no way two random men would suddenly appear and try to grab two girls like that. The Xia family searched for three days and found nothing. On the fourth day, a phone call finally brought a sliver of hope to the tense, gloomy household.

A man called and told them Fengguang was in a hospital in City A. Without hesitation, Xia Chao and Wang Ci jumped in the car and rushed to the hospital, taking Ji Mian and Ji You with them.

In one of the hospital rooms, they finally saw Fengguang—missing for three days.

Wang Ci, known outside as a tough and heartless businesswoman, broke down the moment she saw her daughter sitting up in bed with her head wrapped in bandages. She threw her arms around Fengguang and sobbed uncontrollably.

Fengguang’s pale face was marked with bruises in varying shades of blue and purple. She smiled softly and said, “Don’t cry, Mom. I’m okay now.”

Wang Ci reached out to touch her daughter’s face, but the injuries made her hesitate. Her heart ached with fury. “They hit you?”

“It’s fine, Mom. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

“How could it not hurt…” Wang Ci covered her mouth and choked back a sob. In that moment, she was just like any other mother.

Since she was little, not even Xia Chao or Wang Ci had ever laid a hand on her. She had the best of everything—food, clothes, anything she wanted. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say she lived like a princess. She was so pampered that even a small bump would send her crying in pain. So how could she possibly be okay after something like this?

Xia Chao, a man who rarely showed emotion, simply reached out and gently patted her head. But his eyes were cold as he asked, “Why did you go out that night, Fengguang?”

She’d always been well-behaved. The Xia family’s curfew was 7 p.m., and she had never once broken it.

Xia Chao and Wang Ci stood by her bedside. Ji Mian and Ji You didn’t have the status to stand so close. Ji You flinched at Xia Chao’s question and instinctively hid behind her brother. Her eyes welled up with tears again, just as they had every day since it happened. No matter how many times she was asked, she couldn’t give any more answers.

Fengguang lowered her head and mumbled, embarrassed, “I wanted some candy… so I asked Xiao You to come with me.”

“I see…” Xia Chao glanced meaningfully at Ji You before continuing, “Fengguang, do you remember what the men who tried to grab you looked like?”

“It was dark… and they kept… kept hitting me. I shut my eyes. I didn’t get a good look… I’m sorry, Dad.”

“You don’t have to apologize,” Wang Ci said as she hugged her tightly. “This isn’t your fault.”

Just then, a young man standing at the door spoke up. “If you’re talking about the two attackers… I think I still remember what they looked like.”

The man was dressed in a sleek black suit, exuding a sense of discipline and sharpness that fit him perfectly. His jacket was unbuttoned, giving him just the right touch of nonchalance—a mix of effortless charm and refined elegance.
