Fengguang didn’t say anything, and Wen Qiong took her silence as agreement. He stepped forward, crouching in front of her. He gently took hold of her ankle, feeling her momentary tension, but then he sensed her relaxing quickly.
With great care, he pulled out a handkerchief and wiped the dust off her feet. Only after that did he tenderly and cautiously place her foot into the comfortable shoes. Once both feet were in the shoes, he looked up. “Fengguang, how do the shoes feel?”
His beautiful eyes carried a deep affection that could captivate any woman.
Because in his eyes, she was the only one.
It was like a distant memory, one where another man had done something similar. She had worn the white shoes he bought for her. They weren’t expensive, but they fit perfectly and were comfortable.
Fengguang’s mind was hazy. She crouched down, meeting his gaze, and after staring at him for a long time, she suddenly spoke, “Wen Qiong, what kind of man are you?”
Perhaps more terrifying than Xue Ran, perhaps more innocent than him. She couldn’t figure it out, which left her confused.
“I will become the person Fengguang wants me to be.”
“Do you believe that yourself?”
He shook his head and smiled. “As long as Fengguang is willing to try to believe me, that’s enough.”
“But I don’t dare trust you anymore.”
Wen Qiong’s gaze didn’t darken. “It’s okay if you don’t believe me, Fengguang. You won’t fall in love with any other man besides me.”
She wanted to mock him with a sarcastic laugh, but she couldn’t. “Where do you get this confidence from?”
“There is no one in this world who could love you more than I do.”
The man and woman continued their conversation, completely oblivious to their surroundings. They spoke about love, while Yu Shu, the only one with a curious expression, stood as an amused bystander. The rest of the people felt awkward, but the two of them didn’t seem to care.
Fengguang and Wen Qiong had a strange similarity when it came to losing themselves in their worlds.
Fengguang found it hard to believe. Just before, she thought seeing him again would make her want to run away or perhaps act like a stranger and ignore him. But now, she felt inexplicably calm. “Wen Qiong, if today, you died and became a ghost, would you still… choose to drag me to hell with you?”
“I don’t know,” Wen Qiong replied. “I’m afraid of losing you. You said you wanted to live, so I’ll try to live too. Fengguang, you said our relationship isn’t equal, but that’s okay. I’ll try to make you like me more. You don’t have to sacrifice your life, just… only accept me and let me stay by your side.”
“What if I don’t love you anymore?”
He smiled gently, indifferently. “If Fengguang doesn’t love me, it will be my fault. It has nothing to do with you. I will punish myself, not trap you with vile means.”
Fengguang didn’t ask how he would punish himself, as her instincts told her that would not be a good question to ask.
Her gaze flickered, the sound of her rationality crumbling. She tilted her head, staring at him with hollow eyes. “If the day comes when I’m tired of you, would you be able to end your life on your own? And promise me, even if you become a ghost, you won’t get close to me.”
She heard the alarm ringing in her mind — the alarm indicating her darkening thoughts were nearing a critical point. The system reported that the host’s “darkness value” was beginning to rise.
Even though the alarm was blaring in her head, she seemed to ignore it, staring at him with a soft, vacant expression, her eyes quiet and unblinking.
Man, her mind became unstable since the world with Xue Ran. Anyone would. Yet, she never realized it🫠
