The kiss came so suddenly that Feng Guang didn’t have time to react before her body was pulled into a strong embrace. The lotus lantern and the candied hawthorn she had been holding fell to the ground, but she didn’t care. All her rationality was drowned out by the kiss, and what made her heart race was that it wasn’t a gentle kiss.
His slightly cold tongue slipped into her mouth, greedily tasting her breath, exploring every corner with intense force. Feng Guang felt herself fall apart, her breathing slowly becoming difficult. It seemed like an eternity, but also just a few seconds, before he finally released her.
Gasping for air, her face flushed, her heart pounding wildly, Feng Guang looked up and noticed that he didn’t seem unaffected either. Despite his effort to restrain himself, his breath was heavy, and though he was usually a gentleman, this kiss had been anything but gentle. She couldn’t deny it—this contrast made her want to throw herself at him.
“Sorry… I…” Xue Ran’s words were scattered, as he reached out to touch her face but hesitated. The rush of emotions from that moment made it impossible for him to control himself.
Feng Guang raised her hand to cover his mouth and said seriously, “Xue Ran, do you know what wild combat is?”
It was as if Xue Ran heard his rationality bidding him goodbye.
She grabbed his hand and started pulling him toward the nearby forest. But a splash of water caught her attention. Not far away, by the shore, stood a young woman, watching a man struggle in the water. With a stomp of her foot, she jumped in, and in a short while, she dragged the man out.
“That person… is the leader of the Dan sect.” Xue Ran’s night vision was better than Feng Guang’s, and he recognized that the man struggling in the water was indeed Dan Ya.
“Hey!” Feng Guang saw that he was about to go over and hurriedly pulled on his arm. “Xue Ran, don’t you want to have some wild combat with me?”
Cough… Miss, you’re being too forward!
Xue Ran’s face turned red, flustered. “F-Feng Guang… this kind of thing… should only happen on the wedding night…”
“So you mean… you’ll marry me?” She looked up at him with mischievous eyes, enjoying the embarrassed expression on his face. It was one of her guilty pleasures.
Xue Ran covered his eyes with one hand, and after a long pause, he finally spoke, his voice soft. “Yeah… I’ll marry you.”
“But I’m already betrothed,” she teased, pulling his hand away and cupping his face with both hands, delighted to see him flustered.
Xue Ran reluctantly met her gaze, feeling embarrassed to the point of almost being overwhelmed. Yet, he said earnestly, “I’ll speak to Master Yi and make it clear. Since he belongs to Yueyue, he should no longer hold onto your marriage.”
“What if Yi Wushang doesn’t agree to annul the engagement?”
“Then… I’ll take you to Old Friend Valley. Even though he’s the leader of the martial arts alliance, without the valley master’s permission, he can’t come in.”
Feng Guang couldn’t help but laugh at his solution. She hugged him again. “Alright, you said it. Let’s go see that Dan Ya who fell in.”
Even though she didn’t think Xue Ran would be able to make Nangong Li annul the engagement, teasing him like this was quite fun.
Holding his hand, Feng Guang walked over and saw the young woman in yellow standing helplessly by the side, staring at the unconscious Dan Ya on the ground. Her furrowed brow suggested that she thought he might be beyond saving.
Xue Ran spoke, “Miss.”
The young woman looked up, seeing a man and a woman approach. She asked, “Who are you?”
“I’m a doctor.”
Upon hearing this, her expression relaxed slightly. “Doctor, please check if he’s dead!”
Xue Ran knelt to check Dan Ya’s pulse, then pressed on his abdomen. Dan Ya coughed up some water but still didn’t seem to be waking up. After a moment of thought, Xue Ran was about to speak, but Feng Guang cut in, “Miss, I think he needs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.”
The young woman was confused. “What is mouth-to-mouth resuscitation?”
